Total Immersion Racing

Wie Phönix aus der Asche schlug eines kalten Dezembermorgens plötzlich die fix und fertige Verkaufsversion von Total Immersion Racing auf meinem Schreibtisch auf. Die Überraschung war gelungen! Grafik und Steuerung offenbaren zwar einige Defizite. Diese macht der gelungene Karrieremodus mitsamt dem innovativen und gut funktionierenden KI-System wieder wett. Wer ein gelungenes Rennspiel mit Langzeitmotivation abseits des F1-Zirkusses sucht, kommt an Total Immersion Racing nur schwer vorbei.

Die GT-Serie: Wagen dreier unterschiedlicher Leistungsklassen fahren auf Stadt-, Flugfeld- und Formel-1-Strecken. Groß ist die Freude auf den Zuschauerrängen, wenn ein schwachbrüstiger GT-BMW einen GTS-Panoz überholt oder wenn ein Audi-Prototyp von einem Lister am Überrunden gehindert wird. Hinter den Lenkrädern wird derweil aus Selbstvertrauen pure Aggression - halsbrecherische Aktionen und Fahrfehler sind da vorprogrammiert.

On the whole, Total Immersion Racing succeeds. Not because it has a gimmick, though that's what they might have you believe. It succeeds because it's wholly competent, largely enjoyable, pretty enough and challenging in a way that makes you think you can succeed, even when you're failing. In short, it's rather like the Twix. Solid, simple and tasty. Look through the foggy curtain of marketing, and buy it for these reasons.

The appearance and sounds of the game are excellent - but you will enjoy this for all too short a time. The game does not require very much time to beat, especially if you use the driving aids/training wheels. Lack of online play really hurts the longevity of this game.

Overall, this definitely won’t make it to the throne of PS2 racing titles, but it provides enough replayability, unlockable extras, and fun to last for a while … despite the looser controls and some bump and drive gameplay which seems more in line for your local arcade. If you have GT3 and are looking for another racing title for the $19.99 range that won’t disappoint, look no further than this. Great job to Empire Interactive and Razorworks.

Das auf menschlich getrimmte Fahrverhalten der CPU-Gegner wirkt tatsächlich echter als in anderen Rennspielen. Doch nur im mittleren Schwierigkeitsgrad wirkt sich das spürbar auf den Verlauf eines Rennens aus. Abgesehen vom herausfordernden Karrieremodus ist Total Immersion Racing gut – mehr nicht. Schöne Strecken, schicke Autos und solide Fahrphysik locken mich immer mal wieder auf die Piste. Doch echte Emotionen entstehen bei mir ab dem zweiten Karrierejahr nicht mehr: Es gibt keine Porträts der Gegner, keine Story, keinen Spannungsbogen.

Total Immersion Racing isn't complex or dangerous enough for fans of ultrarealistic motorsports, nor is it wild and crazy enough for arcade buffs. And certainly it lacks some of the perks and the longevity found in many other top-level racing products. Yet it looks and sounds excellent and delivers some tantalizingly competitive moments that will keep you glued to your steering wheel. Total Immersion Racing may not seem perfect, but it's nevertheless an innovative and at times exhilarating game.

It plays wonderfully and delivers the kind of realistic experience that fans of the genre crave. Nevertheless, these other two games have been out for a while, have a wider variety of options and frills, and cost roughly the same. Unless you can't get enough of GT-style racing, there's really no pressing reason to add Total Immersion Racing to your collection.

This is a fun game, though falls short of the thrill I felt when playing NASCAR Thunder 2003. Though a different kind of car, the intensity was missing for me-- but that may be due to my lack of knowledge in this kind of racing. I'm more used to oval tracks and familiar opponents. Total Immersion Racing has some great features that I have not experienced before.

If the folks at Empire Interactive set out to duplicate Gran Turismo 3 or Sega GT 2002, they've certainly succeeded. Total Immersion Racing plays wonderfully and delivers the kind of realistic experience that fans of the genre crave. Nevertheless, these other two games have been out for a while, have a wider variety of options and frills, and cost roughly the same. Unless you can't get enough of GT-style racing, there's really no pressing reason to add Total Immersion Racing to your collection.

I think Razorworks should go back to the drawing board and address their problems in execution, because their concepts are intriguing and the presentation of the package is great. Multiplayer is a MUST for any future follow-up. But until they address these issues, this game is strictly for a driver who wants something less than a full-blown sim , and doesn't mind banging doors a lot.

Total Immersion Racing tries to take racing to another level. Unfortunately, none of the gimmicks it tries really work. You never get a sense of a dramatic underlying storyline, and being able to tap into the emotions of the other drivers is just plain weird. Fortunately, the racing is a kick. If you've beaten the daylights out of Gran Turismo: A Spec and still feel the need to air it out in GT action, the budget-priced TIR isn't a bad way to go.

Im Ansatz ist Total Immersion Racing durchaus gelungen: Die KI kann das gegebene Versprechen fast ansatzlos einlösen und gibt einem wie nie zuvor das Gefühl, gegen fast lebensechte CPU-Fahrer anzutreten. Doch so sehr sich die Engine auch bemüht, ein gutes Geschwindigkeitsgefühl zu vermitteln, niemals wird man von TIR in den Bann gezogen. Denn das Umfeld ist einfach zu unspektakulär und geradezu durchschnittlich. Angefangen vom fehlenden Schadensmodell bis hin zur gewöhnungsbedürftigen Steuerung findet man kaum Ansatzpunkte, um Motivation zu gewinnen. Wer mit der Steuerung klar kommt, findet möglicherweise sogar Interesse an dem passablen Karriere-Modus, doch selbst auf der Xbox ist die Konkurrenz mittlerweile zu stark, als dass man nur mit einer klasse KI bestehen könnte.

Total Immersion Racing to, mimo swych licznych wad, gra dosyć grywalna traktująca jednak wy�cigi samochodowe bardziej zręczno�ciowo. Fani symulacji, nawet tej reprezentującej stany �rednie, nie mają tu czego szukać. Produkt Razorworks, mimo wielkich zapowiedzi okazał się być produkcją przeciętną. Co prawda pojawiają się tu elementy wybitne, jak na przykład bardzo ładnie wykonany moduł sztucznej inteligencji, czy perfekcyjne modele samochodów. Niemniej w dzisiejszych czasach to zbyt mało, by podbić serca graczy zwłaszcza, że brakuje tu tak podstawowych elementów jak chociażby tryb multiplayer czy jakikolwiek model zniszczeń pojazdów.

If it seems that I dislike the game, this is not the case. The problem I have with it is that it is nothing particularly new. If this game had come out a year ago I think everybody would be more impressed by it, but because of the current flood in the market of racing games this game has only a few real elements that differentiate it. The driver aggression thingy is a truly new extra, watching those usually placid computer drivers flip and quite literally come after you definitely adds to the driving experience, the first case of computer road rage! The realism of driving on a track with all the other classes too is a welcome bonus but I really can't help thinking that I might as well just dust off my copy of TOCA, with its unintentionally comic sub-plot and extensive tracks and cars, to get back to grips. Slightly disappointing, a definite case of too little and rather too late.

All in all this game is average at best, even with the EMOTION factors added in. I was disappointed in the interaction between the Team Manager and your self, no video, just a static picture and a few lines of text ends up being your advice. This game may be suitable for those who do not or cannot race online, but probably would not be a top choice for the hard-core gamer.

Un jeu de course de plus qui pêche par un air de déjà vu indéniable. Pas d'innovations marquantes mais un petit plaisir de jeu qui pourra séduire ceux qui sont vraiment en manque de dérapages. Une quinzaine de véhicules au comportement amusant mais peu réaliste.

Total Immersion Racing ne fait absolument pas le poids face à Sega GT 2002. Sorti récemment le titre de Sega offre un contenu plus riche et une réalisation bien plus appréciable que celui de Empire qui se contente de nous décevoir à tous les niveaux.

Bref, à quelque niveau que ce soit, Total Immersion Racing a bien du mal à convaincre. Son gameplay a bien du mal à trouver sa place entre arcade et simulation et si les conducteurs du dimanche pourront s'essayer à la catégorie GT sans se prendre la tête, les amateurs pilotage réaliste et poussé risquent de faire la grise mine quant à eux. En somme, voici un jeu de course qui ne devrait pas faire date, mais surtout qui tombera probablement très rapidement dans l'oubli tant il s'avère décevant à bien des niveaux.

the title of Total Immersion Racing is an overstatement. TIR ought to be politely referred to as SIR... Sorta Immersion Racing. Everything works, but it doesn't offer anything that hasn't been done better before. And in the race to be the best, why accept anything less?
