This is a great shooter, perhaps the best we have had this year, so far, and it is definitely a game that is looking to be on my top 5 list of games for 2012. We have been lucky to have some great titles come out this year and we still have some exciting titles on the release schedule too, but don’t make an error and miss this gem. I really hope we get a third game in this series.

“Fall of Cybertron” is a great kickoff to the fall season. Whether you’re a Transformers fan or not, the game is a lot of fun. It truly ramps up the action to epic levels, then somehow keeps topping itself with dazzling new sequences. The levels are varied and well designed, the objectives are straightforward, you don’t have to manage your stats for the sake of boss monsters, and the multiplayer modes are genuinely fun and easily accessible. It also ends well while at the same time teasing the third game as possibly being set on Earth. It’d be great if the next Transformers game offered the open world nature of “Sleeping Dogs” while retaining the combat, characters, and stories. That’s just a suggestion on my part, High Moon, nothing more. You did a great job with this title and for that you are to be commended.

I found very little not to like about Transformers: Fall of Cybertron, which is superior to its predecessor in every way. It still felt a bit short, but it looks better, it plays better and it even feels better. One day, when I was playing through it, I had a flashback of coming home from school to watch the TV show (which hasn't aged well) and then digging around for my toys. It was the same kind of joy.

Like with the jump from Rocksteady's Batman: Arkham Asylum to Batman: Arkham City, High Moon Studios took a well-known but gaming-challenged property and made a title that rose above almost all licensed games. Then, not only did they turn it around and do it again in a sequel, they managed to take something great and make it even greater. To say Fall of Cybertron is the best game ever might be a stretch, but it is certainly the best Transformers game fans have ever seen. The Create-a-Transformer system is every child of the '80s wish come true. The campaign is varied, always fun and a spectacle that puts even the biggest, loudest Michael Bay films to shame. And, best of all in my book, Fall of Cybertron understands the lore of the Transformers universe and the treatment of these classic characters is both fresh and familiar.

As I mentioned at the top of the review, coming from someone who wasn’t a massive fan of the first Transformers game that High Moon put out, I’m having an absolute blast with this one. Fall of Cybertron feels like an actual love letter to the series, and puts the right amount of emphasis on individual characters and their traits and mixes that with levels that make use of those particular skills and abilities. It’s just a real joy to play, and I’m glad to have in my hands an actual, fun Transformers experience in video game form.

Fall of Cybertron is the Transformers toy battle you imagined as a child, transposed onto the TV in front of you. It’s the most faithful treatment of the Transformers brand for fans across any medium in recent years, and it manages the feat while remaining welcoming to new potential players. It’s also a clear message to the world that High Moon Studios has joined that most rarified breed of game developer that can create an honest-to-goodness great licensed game.

The real strength of Transformers: Fall of Cybertron is how expertly High Moon leverages the characters and mythology to create a cinematic shooter that stands on the strength of its design and gameplay, rather than leaning on its license as a crutch. Transformers fans will be in heaven, but even if you’re just a fan of blowing stuff up real good, Fall of Cybertron is a ride well worth taking. Here’s hoping for many more entries in the series.

Transformers: Fall of Cybertron won't likely garner many Game of the Year awards since it just slightly misses the mark on a few key points, but what it does bring is some serious passion for a great property. What's important this time around is that Activision allowed High Moon to see that through with a big budget and the time needed to polish things up. The game's a blast on 360 and looks better than any previous TF title (and better than most console releases out there), and the short-but-intense campaign along with solid multiplayer modes are perfectly suited to the strengths of Microsoft's venerable console. Will the lack of a cooperative campaign or the shift in focus towards deepening the other multiplayer modes make everyone happy? Nope, but I can see what High Moon was trying to do with Fall of Cybertron, and I really hope they're successful with it. After all, the story of the closing of Radical Entertainment is still fresh in a lot of gamer's minds.

Whether you know all five Combaticons that form Bruticus by name, or have never seen a robot change into a car outside of a Shia LaBeouf movie, it's hard not to love this fun action shooter from High Moon Studios.

Transformers Fall of Cybertron presents gamers with one of the best single-player campaigns to date with more Transformer lore and love than you can poke a stick at. It's a carefully scripted campaign that even manages to pull at your heartstrings as the world of Cybertron falls apart. More importantly, the gameplay is virtually flawless on the XBox 360 that boasts a sturdy control system and enough excitement to keep you glued to your TV for around 8 hours. Even when you have finished the game, you might want to play it again on a higher difficulty or jump straight into the online mode for Escalation or the other competitive modes.

If Fall of Cybertron has one lesson that it’s trying to convey, it’s the same thing that players will quickly learn upon trying out the multiplayer mode: Keep moving, adapt, and be willing to change. Otherwise, you’ll probably blow up.

Transformers: Fall of Cybertron is a hugely ambitious sequel that delivers on almost all fronts. Where War for Cybertron was criticised for its lack of gameplay variety, its sequel never lets the action get into a rut at any point, shaking things up with different Autobots and Decepticons at every turn. Its scale is truly awe-inspiring too, from Metroplex towering above the battlefield and launching airstrikes at your behest, to Starscream or Vortex swooping through sprawling, multi-tiered levels. Or Bruticus going on an unhinged rampage, or Grimlock getting his rage on... The list goes on and on. Simply put, there's no disguising that Transformers: Fall of Cybertron is not just an incredible sequel, but also the best Transformers game ever made. Till all are one!

FoC is a step forward for the Transformers property albeit a small one. The improvements in variety both visually and in gameplay styles is a welcome rounding of rough edges but not a significant evolution in itself. Then there are the non-events like perks and context sensitive buttons that prove to be missed opportunities for changes and improvement. What remains impressive is that the game stays true to the roots of the series, good enough to stand as official canon. The core gameplay remains solid with flashes of excellence and the game not only creates interest in the whole escape from Cybertron story, but creates excitement and a foundation for the inevitable sequel.

Supreme fan service, an epic sense of scale and plenty of gameplay variety ensure that Transformers: Fall of Cybertron is not only an unreservedly brilliant sequel, but is inarguably the best Transformers game we've played. It's got the touch. It's got the power.

It all makes for a very cool experience — and a gorgeous one, too, thanks to lovingly detailed Unreal Engine graphics that make even the obligatory sewer-like area come alive. Fall of Cybertron never quite transcends its franchise the way, say, Arkham City does — loving Transformers will definitely heighten your appreciation of it — but it’s every bit the game that series buffs hoped for, and an improvement on its forebear. Here’s hoping we get a third chapter from High Moon, showing our friends’ Earth-based adventures.

Transformers: Fall of Cybertron is a must have for fans of the series. High Moon really gets the universe and you can tell there are some designers on that team that are hardcore fans. If you loved the last game this is a no-brainer, but if you somehow missed out on the original, I cannot recommend these two games enough. Fans of Transformers will be delighted at the care taken with this series. I really hope that Activision keeps these guys on the series and we continue to get more. Who wouldn’t love to see High Moon take it into Generation One? I have to end this review with the simply phrase: Til all are one!

Campaign co-op is definitely missed, but Fall's superior single-player mode goes a long way to make up for it. Escalation raises the bar on the now-requisite survival mode, and competitive matches—complemented by a strong character progression and customization system—do a fine job supplementing tried-and-true online melees with Transfomers-specifc gameplay and style. Fall of Cybertron doesn't pack the same “Oh my god, someone finally made a good Transformers game!” punch as its predecessor, but it's an entirely worthy successor no Optimus Prime fan should pass up.

Transformers: Fall of Cybertron is a lot of fun, even if its looks aren’t on par with its gameplay.

The Fall of Cybertron isn’t without its issues, but it’s filled with great moments and enthralling experiences worthy of any Transformer fan and anyone wanting to explore the origins of the Transformers. Believe me, after first seeing the Wikipedia-like experience from the Transformer movies, the Fall of Cybertron brought me around and inspired me to research the true lore to the series. Take it from someone who formerly disregarded Transformers: The Fall of Cybertron brings the best that the universe has to offer, and playing with autobot and decepticon friends feels right, so roll out and grab a copy.

With a series of meaningful improvements that culminate in a more interestingly designed campaign and sustainable multiplayer experience, Fall of Cybertron continues the franchise’s upward trend in quality with a sequel that’s definitely worth attention. There’s certainly more for fans to enjoy in the end, but even those who might not have a Unicron figure gathering dust on their shelf will still find plenty to appreciate in this enthusiastically delivered take on the series. The venerable Cybertron may have turned to ashes, but this particular slice of the Transformers pie is just heating up.

Transformers: Fall Of Cybertron may be a bit of a hard-sell to players who aren't fans of the original cartoons, because it is, first and foremost, a game for Transformers fans made by Transformers fans. If I lost you earlier in the review when I mentioned Bruticus and Grimlock, then High Moon's game will appear to you as a solid, if hardly revolutionary TPS with an interesting shapeshifting mechanic thrown in for good measure. If, however, you know which one of the aforementioned Transformers turns into a fire-breathing Tyrannosaurus Rex, you'll be right at home here.

Transformers: Fall of Cybertron doesn't come close to recapturing the magic of fighting Autobots and Decepticons in the bedrooms and playgrounds of our youths, but High Moon Studios has created something that allows us to fondly recall those bygone times.

You could be forgiven for dismissing the multiplayer as a meticulously stencilled failsafe collection. Escalation is the Transformer's co-op Horde Mode, a by-the-book fifteen waves of survival. Competitive modes echo similar failsafes - Capture the Flag, point-capturing Conquest, team deathmatch all line up to dutifully do their bit to fill out the multiplayer universe. But that's not the point: the point is that you're playing those familiar modes as Transformers. It plays so differently that it's its own game. If the movie tie-ins are the sacrifice that society has to pay to Activision for the Cybertron games, so be it.

Overall, Transformers: Fall of Cybertron continues the great work of its predecessor and also takes that to new heights. The campaign is visually rich, highly playable and gripping throughout, while the multiplayer offers incentive to come back for more. Most crucially, though, High Moon Studios has again done justice to these much-loved, shapeshifting robots.

Transformers: Fall of Cybertron will make you feel like you're back in your childhood bedroom with tons of Transformers toys spread out all over the floor. It's a fun action title that does great service to the license and offers a great amount of fan service. Ultimately, Transformers: Fall of Cybertron is a game that doesn’t attempt to be anything that it isn’t. Steeped heavily in its source material, the title caters to fans of the franchise with combat that isn’t necessarily refreshing, but satisfying. Fans of the series will no doubt appreciate the scope and quality of the title, and the uninitiated will find the controls welcoming and familiar. As advertised, you won’t find anything new. Just more of the same. And in this case, that’s actually kind of a good thing.

Overall, it's a superior game to War for Cybertron - from fixing the ammo situation to having a more variety in gameplay. The fact that you aren't playing through two campaigns which are virtually the same helps. It still offers up more for the aging Transformers fan, than the younger shooter fanatic.

I was taken by surprise with War on Cybertron and how well that turned out. And, honestly, I think Activision and High Moon probably felt the same way. The gameplay was steady and the multiplayer was just really fun. This sequel carries on that favorable edge. The campaign features a functional story that affords plenty of reason to blast the oil out of Decepticons AND Autobots. And although "variety" in missions isn't the strong suit, blowing stuff up and clacking on dozens of robots doesn't get old. Multiplayer is the real draw here for most, and if you enjoyed War, you'll be more than happy with Fall. Much like the gameplay, presentation isn't the best, but there aren't any reason for demerit either. Again, it's hard to pin down, and I apologize for being so vague, but I just thought this game was good. And this time, that will just have to do.

High Moon had high hopes that Fall Of Cybertron could become its very own Arkham, signalling a similar Batarang-powered rise into the development glitterati to that achieved by Rocksteady. That’s not quite the case here: this is big and dumb where Bats was sleek and considered. But this is still a triumph – especially on a fan-service level – and absolutely deserving of a titanic culmination to the trilogy. These Robot Wars are more than worth your time.

As a package, Transformers: Fall of Cybertron’s lack of ambition is countered by an obvious fondness for the Transformers themselves and the amount of polish that has been lavished on its presentation and mechanics. Gamers looking for something new will find little here to draw them in, but as a celebration of Hasbro’s iconic cast of characters there is much here to be recommended, and plenty for High Moon Studios to build on should it get another chance to work with the robots in disguise.

Looking back on the game, I thought I would be slamming it early on, but when all is said and done this is a game that rewards you if you can persevere through the drag during the first five hours. Do it and you’ll be rewarded with an exciting dynamic game, although one that still doesn’t blaze any new trails. If you are gaming on a limited time budget you might not have the patience to make it that far though, and that is a shame. If only Half Moon had found a way to make the first half more engaging this might be a game I could recommend to anyone. If you’re a fan of the ‘formers and you’ve got the time to spare, give this one a shot.

Fall of Cybertron is the game Transformers fans wanted, for sure: a litany of homages and celebrations and a marked improvement on the washed-out smallness of War for Cybertron. For all that, it's not quite the game Transformers deserves, failing as it does to expand or explore the possibilities of reconfigurable characters. It's exactly what meets the eye - which is to say a good-hearted festival of a game about talking robots shooting and smashing each other, shouting itself raw-throated in joy at the toys it gets to play with, but no more than that.

Fall of Cybertron is a game you should pick up if you are in love with the Transformers storyline. It's better than its predecessor in pretty much all areas except flexibility. But this is okay. The lack of flexibility actually gives the game more of an identity. This isn't just a generic action game with Transformers in it; this actually feels like a "Transformers Game" a feat that not even War for Cybertron managed to pull off. It's a must-have for any Transformers fan, and while it probably won't convert any newcomers to the franchise, it will still provide some innovative fun for even casual fans of Optimus Prime and crew.

Transformers: Fall of Cybertron is indeed a blockbuster movie in the form of a video game. If that’s what you’re looking for, you won’t be disappointed. The control won’t let you down, all your favorite characters are here, there’s enough variety and diversity in terms of missions and gameplay elements, and you always feel super powerful. Gotta love that. But the story is on the weak side, too much of the last installment’s challenge has been erased in favor of “faster and simpler,” and we never really get a handle on any one Transformer or scenario. Oh, and the PS3 version isn’t quite as good as the 360 version, unfortunately.

Transformers: Fall of Cybertron is a solid action experience with a few issues that hold it back from greatness. The story campaign entertains and the multiplayer modes entice you to come back after the credits roll, but the out-of-place melee segments, polish issues, and dropped features from the first game make it fall short. If you’re a Transformers superfan looking for more giant robot action or just looking for a fun shooter experience, Transformers: Fall of Cybertron will not disappoint.

As such, Fall of Cybertron is a step down from High Moon's encouraging start -- not bad at all and more than capable of providing entertainment, but unable to reach the heights of that which came before.

Transformers: Fall of Cybertron's campaign is over in seven hours or so, some of its chapters hovering around 40 minutes, and others over in a quick 15. It's not as long as War for Cybertron, but it is more varied and more visually stimulating. Yet in leaving behind its predecessor's problems, it gained some of its own, sacrificing thrilling action in favor of noninteractive spectacle. PlayStation 3 owners don't get the full effect of such spectacle, their version of the game not rendering the fireworks in their proper glory. But owners of both consoles get a fun (if inconsistent) array of offline and online battles that scratch that action-flick itch.

High Moon is really starting to find form and do the franchise justice. And despite the game’s flaws, fans will surely find Fall Of Cybertron to be the best reflection of their beloved robots in disguise in many a year. Too bad they couldn’t get Grimlock right, though…

The entirety of Transformers: Fall of Cybertron is given a boost in that way, though it's hardly a crime when it results in such an energetic licensed game. There's a significant chunk of ho-hum in here (oh, look, it's the hulking enemy with a weakpoint on its back!), but there's also a sense of honesty once you clear the game's faux-flash first half, and that translates to fun if you approach it with a matching mindset. The cybernetic T-rex isn't pretending to be anything but a roaring power fantasy with twiddly arms.

Transformers: Fall of Cybertron is the best Transformers game to date, but it's not strong enough to appeal to audiences far outside of the fan circuit.

But we still have to ask ourselves: Can we call ourselves Transformers fans? If you've got a fondness for Hasbro's brand, High Moon Studios does not disappoint. If you played with a Transformer as a child and haven't revisited your inner 8-year-old in a few years, Fall of Cybertron will more than suffice. The latest title in the franchise won't disappoint and will provide plenty of childish, stupid fun, but it's not about to set the robotic world on fire.

As a straight-up action adventure game, Transformers: Fall of Cybertron it's falls short in terms of excellence, but the titantic epicness of the concluding shots is so awesome that any Transformers fan should grab Fall of Cybertron if one's willing to overlook the shortcomings of some of the game mechanics.

Fall of Cybertron is undoubtedly an improvement over an already impressive debut, yet it doesn’t feel nearly as invigorating or daring as War for Cybertron did. Small gameplay changes and visual improvements are welcome additions to War’s clever formula, but a clunky story that treads too much water and trades on too much nostalgia squanders the considerable potential that this fledgling series had accrued. Diehard G1 fans will love the fanservice and attention to detail, but the rest of the audience won’t remember much after the credits roll.

If War for Cybertron was Ultra Magnus, then Fall of Cybertron is Rodimus Prime: slick, confident and explosive, but not quite as refined as the ultimate Autobot leader Optimus Prime. There’s a lot to like about the game’s single-player campaign, but sloppy shooting and some technical issues detract from its cinematic achievements. Once again multiplayer is perhaps the highlight of the package, serving up a punchy competitive and co-operative experience that, while unlikely to consume your gaming attention for months on end, is a lot more than meets the eye.

The PC version of Transformers: Fall of Cybertron doesn't harbor an enormous online community, and its team balancing doesn't seem to work right, so you might wait longer than you'd expect in matchmaking lobbies. But when it hits its stride, it is a varied and visually stimulating ride. In leaving behind its predecessor's problems, it gained some of its own, sacrificing thrilling action in favor of noninteractive spectacle. Yet its array of offline and online battles still scratch that action-flick itch.

Well, at least Transformers came to the PC at all -- it was looking doubtful for a while there. And, unlike some publishers I could name, it's out day-and-date with the console version. Will you be showing your appreciation with a purchase, or taking your Energon Cubes elsewhere?

The carefully selected combination of useable colours for each faction should tell you all you need to know about High Moon Studio’s veneration for the Transformers universe. There’s no doubt fans of the series will ascertain the most enjoyment from Fall of Cybertron and its deluge of references and new, faithful material; and there’s certain enjoyment to come from its third-person shooting, even if its clumsy cover system (or lack thereof) and fairly one-note combat are clear flaws to see. It may be in competition with its predecessor but the disappointing world of Transformers video games has a new top dog. Perhaps not the crowning achievement but a steady improvement that will hopefully continue with any future instalments.

Still, Hollywood likes things that go boom and look good doing so, much like Michael Bay’s Transformers movies. The game industry operates much the same way, but the best games within it also introduce a fresh experience, something Transformers: Fall of Cybertron fails to do. Yes, Grimlock and the Combaticons are new, but for all practical purposes they’re just multimedia window dressing on an otherwise evolutionary, not revolutionary, title.

The highs in Transformers: Fall of Cybertron are very high. The final chapter and the way it presents its world are awesome things to see if you care about the Transformers franchise. It rewrites origins in ways that feel elegant, especially when compared to things like the movie trilogy. And it has the right idea with character-specific abilities that help to make the individual Transformers feel different. But it doesn't go far enough in that direction to stand out, and it ultimately feels like it's being held back by its by-the-numbers shooting. There are some great ideas here, but you'll have to wade through a pretty thick set of drawbacks to enjoy them. With that in mind, it'll really help if you're the sort of person who really cares about the Transformers franchise.

After playing Transformers: Fall of Cybertron only one word comes to mind: functional. It’s sad that a game with as many narrative hooks and the look of the generation one Transformers is so prone to technical issues and some bizarre design choices. It makes the whole package a wash when compared to its counterparts in the third person shooter genre. But is it a good Transformers game when compared to the pantheon of licensed video games? I think so. High Moon Studios makes no secret of its love of the franchise and is ambitious in Fall of Cybertron. Perhaps next time High Moon makes a Transformers game (assuming that there will be another one…) they’ll successfully combine their passion for the source material and the narrative with some engrossing gameplay mechanics. For now though, I can only recommend Transformers: Fall of Cybertron to the people out there that simply have to know what happens to the Autobots and Decepticons.
