Like the movie it’s based on, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen isn’t trying to radically change the genre or introduce innovative new features. It’s giving you great-looking robots that go off and fight other great-looking robots as you watch the resulting explosions. The game takes the best part of the first Transformers game (the robots) and wraps it up in a satisfying combat engine and a mission structure that encourages you to replay the game. For these reasons, fans of the film or the first game, especially younger gamers, will have a great time playing Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

When a developer is creating a movie game they are always fighting against the grain, trying to prove to the gaming public that not every game based off a film has to suck. While the first Transformers game was just average, Revenge of the Fallen improves a good bit and becomes one of those games well worth the purchase price. Not only is the duel-sided single-player campaign features plenty to do, the multiplayer online mode adds hours of fun time for fans and newbies alike. If you are one of those people that will be standing in line tonight to see the midnight premiere of the Transformers sequel this game is a no-brainer purchase, for those gamers looking for an over-the-top action game Revenge of the Fallen should not be overlooked. At this pace we can’t wait to see what Activision will bring to the table with the next Transformers video game, look for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen – The Game on store-shelves this week. This game is more than meets the eye!

Still, there are plenty of great things in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen to warrant purchasing it. I haven't even talked about the multiplayer, which is awesome when you've got a full roster of robots in the fray, and the extra missions and unlockable content are enough incentive to replay the game as both Autobot and the Decepticon factions. If you like Transformers, buy this game. Even if you don't (or you just hate Michael Bay), you should still give Optimus Prime a try.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is a decent game as far as movie tie-ins go. There's a clear direction and I'm sure if it wasn't so tied to the movie's release window, most of the bigger issues could have been worked out. If you're a Transformers fan that is looking for a single-player only experience, Fallen is a rental at best. If you're down for multiplayer, pick it up.

Not to damn it with faint praise, but Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is a massive upgrade over the previous movie-based game in the series. So much so that it’s unfair to really even compare them. Despite some feelings of repetitiveness and a lack of polish in a lot of places, I feel like it’s my duty to commend Luxoflux for what it’s done: make a pretty good game that treats the license with the respect it deserves. In the history of games based on movie licenses, it easily makes the 90th percentile, but it’s not a must-own by any means.

Revenge of the Fallen is definitely better than the movie. That's the first major relief. If you're looking for a game that you can pick up and dive right in, this isn't it. If you've got time and patience and can dedicate both to a game that, ultimately, you may not find worth the effort...go nuts. ROTF is not a BAD game, but it could have been GREAT with some of the control issues ironed out and a bit more attention to detail with graphics and sound. Buy it, but get it preplayed.

There will be plenty of debate as to whether Michael Bay is systematically destroying every shred of our robot-fueled childhoods or not, but I do have to admit that this title is better than its predecessor. While the free-roaming world doesn’t quite deliver on its promise, and the voice work may force me to commit murder, the multiplayer does deliver in spades. The single player feels like multiplayer arenas with a bit of storyline tacked on, but it works in a somewhat disjointed way. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is a title that almost works. Perhaps the next title will take that final leap towards making a free-roaming Transformers world that all fans desire, but in the mean time, this isn’t a bad title – as far as movie tie-ins go.

Though it isn't immediately accessible, Revenge of the Fallen has a good amount of fun and satisfying gameplay. The initial awkwardness of the controls is a bit vexing, and some issues linger no matter how good you get. The single-player missions and multiplayer game modes aren't very diverse, but the various bonus challenges and strategic nuances add some welcome depth. What Revenge of the Fallen does best is make it fun to be a Transformer by giving you a powerful set of abilities and open maps where you can put them to use. It's enjoyable and engaging, and it's probably the best Transformers product you'll see this summer.

Considering the negative reviews floating around for Michael Bay's second film, it's nice to see that the game has lived up to a higher standard. Forget its troubled lineage -- Revenge of the Fallen is a huge improvement over the first movie tie-in. While the average gamer will be modestly entertained, Transformers fans will probably love it.

Not many are capable of ignoring the stench of yet another movie-based creation and this game certainly possesses the symptoms of industry tackiness. That doesn't mean you won't have some fun if you take the time to learn how each robot operates and in time you should get a kick out of the multiplayer. We regret the developers didn't iron out some of the technical issues, which often ruin the experience throughout the single-player campaign.

With the multiplayer being its biggest redeeming quality, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen doesn’t really improve upon the formula of the first title. If anything, it takes a step or two back overall when it comes to the single-player experience. If you are looking to play a game to get the experience of multiplayer while not actually being online, this may be the game you’ve been looking for. While the fun of giant robot battles may draw you in, the multiplayer experience will keep you coming back to this title. Even with all its problems, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen ranks up there with most worthy movie-based games.

The game isn't downright awful, but there is little to distinguish it from any other action game we've seen, save the Transformers brand attached to it. Yet another movie tie-in with endless possibilities, that does not take advantage of anything it's given.

It may eventually begin to tire, but Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen has the robot mechanics nailed down. There are some overly complex button combinations that could be ironed out, and the vehicle controls are a little odd, but aside from these minor issues the combat hits all the right notes. It’s just a shame that there isn’t more to it. There’s no real structure to each mission, and the level design is poor at best. With more interesting locales and mission variety, Revenge of the Fallen could have been a whole lot better; as it is, it remains just above average. If there’s a space in your heart for the Transformers then there’s definite appeal here, but as a regular Joe looking for an action game, there’s plenty better on the market.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is a game that one should only buy if they are an absolute die-hard Transformers fan and must have it for their collection along with their Optimus Prime underwear and Bumble Bee lunch box. For gamers who like the movies it is at most a rent for a weekend.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen comes up short in a number of categories, due in large part to its repetition, odd control layout, poor AI and almost total lack of presentation. Running around and just shooting stuff has its merits, though it does get old after a bit. At least the multiplayer offers up a pretty good time for when you tire of the short single-player game.

At its core, Revenge of the Fallen has a good amount of fun and satisfying gameplay. Unfortunately, the entertaining stuff is buried beneath sizable technical problems that make it hard to enjoy what the game has to offer. Other issues, like the tricky controls and unimpressive mission diversity, seem like comparatively small hurdles. It's a shame that the fun of being a Transformer gets so muddled in this problematic PC port.

If nothing else, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is an apt representation of what you'd expect from a Transformers movie: a disposable, explosion-laden piece of mindless entertainment featuring robots beating the crap out of each other. And judging from the movie reviews, it actually sounds like this solid, if flawed, action game might turn out to be better than the movie. That is another fact that my six-year-old self would not have believed if I used a time machine to relay it to him.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen was never going to be an exception to the rule where movie games are concerned, but we expect a bit more from something that has you playing as a colossal transforming robot. Too much repetition and an iffy control system transform a potentially enjoyable experience into something altogether more predictably banal and uninteresting. Playable in single-player for a couple of hours at a push, multiplayer offers something with a little extra lastability which goes some way to redeeming the overall package, although a complete lack of polish and presentation mars every inch of the game. For these robots in disguise there really isn't more to them than meets the eye. Revenge of the Fallen is exactly what we were expecting. No more, no less.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen on silti pitkälti elokuvansa arvoinen aivoton toimintavälipala.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is therefore the quintessential movie tie-in, a self-fulfilling prophecy of functional banality. On the surface it's brash, busy and superficially attractive, but underneath it's hollow, blatantly padded and more than a little monotonous. It's never much fun, but nor is it wonky enough to be terrible. It's simply there, a forgettable distraction. Some will doggedly plough through the whole thing in deference to their attachment to the source material or just to convince themselves that it was money well spent, but there's not much more on offer than that. The gaming equivalent of empty calories.

Xbox 360Console Monster
The audience for these cash-cow milking movie tie-in games tends to be of the younger persuasion, but unfortunately, because of the way of the industry, the fact remains that this game will probably recieve a vastly greater audience than it deserves. I would not recommend this atrocity to anyone but the least-discerning of gamers, and the most die-hard lovers of all things Transformers, although in both cases the player would probably still be disappointed. It will probably keep young gamers interested for a while, but for anyone who has experienced the dizzying heights of gaming's pinnacle titles, this is best left avoided unless you're wanting a sour taste and an unjustifiably lighter wallet.

Xbox 360Good Game
It’s a meal deal game that we put down when, on top of everything else, a mission bugged out right near the end and wouldn’t let us go any further, and the thought or restarting it was less appealing than doing nothing at all, I’m giving it 3/10.

Xbox 360Good Game
I can’t contain my rage Jung!! Look there’s not much here to sink your teeth into...the AI routines are so predictable and none of them are exciting to engage. The ONLY good thing in this game and I stress the ONLY good thing, is that some of the achievements unlock full episodes from original the transformers cartoon which was the only reason I kept playing and joyfully reminded me that robot dinosaurs could be useful. I’m giving it 3/10 rubber chickens because it’s still more fun that sitting through the sensationalised mess the film made of my fond transformer childhood memories.
