"Tribes: Vengeance" é uma atualização merecedora da marca, apesar de não ser feito pela mesma equipe dos títulos originais. A Irrational provou entender dos elementos que deram vida à série, e melhorou ela em quase todo sentido possível.

Dynamix had done a remarkable job with the original Tribes games, so I was a little concerned when a new company came in to take over, but after a week of solid action gaming I have to confess that Irrational has kept the game true to its roots while boldly and successfully exploring new territory. The single-player campaign will certainly attract gamers who play for the story and there is enough subtle tutelage buried in the campaign mode that you will find yourself compelled to explore the online aspects of Tribes: Vengeance.

This game is easily the most challenging FPS I have ever learned to play since the beginning of my PC gaming days. Many were the times that I got stomped online or would have to take a break in order to regain my composure after dying right before completing an insanely difficult task required of you in singe player mode.

I love this team from Down Under. You know, Irrational hasn't made a lot of games but those they have made have been fantastic. Tribes: Vengeance is no exception. It walks the fine line between staying completely true to the previous games while also striking out into some exciting new territory. The new single player campaign gives players a much clearer understanding of the world while also being true to the multiplayer roots of the series. The sometimes disjointed timeline of the story is a definite weakness but the action itself is always clear enough to carry you past any questions you might have about who's killing whose grandmother or whether you should be happy or upset about it.

By combining a good single-player campaign with a multiplayer component that effectively captures everything that made the original Tribes a classic, Irrational Games has succeeded in creating a shooter that offers something for every first-person shooter fan to enjoy. The spirit of the franchise remains intact in Tribes: Vengeance, from the thrilling speed of jetpacking and skiing to the depth of the team-based action in multiplayer. The game's excellent presentation is merely the icing on the cake for a game that excels in just about every aspect.

Tribes: Vengeance just feels right. Its fun lies in simple movement - something overlooked in all other high-octane blasters, and it gives you such a feeling of fluidity, control and desire for self-improvement, that on a basic level it's extremely hard to dislike. There are issues, yes, but coupled with such an intriguing narrative structure, you get the impression that this is a game that will be fondly remembered for many years to come. Personally, I'm hooked. I want a pair of jet-boots and... I want to be a princess more than ever before.

Door een singleplayer spel in te voegen, slaagt Tribes: Vengeance erin heel z'n eigen mythe terug op te bouwen. Irrational heeft een spel gemaakt dat voor elke fps-fan wel iets te bieden heeft. Of je nu met een jetpack een aanval uitvoert, dan wel 'skiënd' doorheen een multiplaymap zoeft. De fraaie grafieken en afwerking zijn de kers op de taart van een verder uitmuntend spel.

Liebe auf den zweiten Blick! So kann ich meine Erfahrung mit Tribes Vengeance am ehesten bezeichnen. Natürlich, es ist gerade die Optik, die einem im ersten Moment nicht so zusagt. Spätestens wenn man aber das Jetpack im Schlaf beherrscht, ist die volle Leidenschaft entfacht.

Lustig, diese maßlose Selbstüberschätzung unseres Frischlings. Als ob er von meiner Spielfigur je etwas anderes gesehen hätte als deren Kugeln, die sein jämmerliches Digitalleben ein ums andere Mal beendeten. Tribes war für mich immer der kleinere Bruder von Unreal Tournament. Das bleibt auch nach Vengeance so. Doch das ist kein Nachteil, schließlich ist UT für mich der König aller Mehrspieler-Duelle. Die Jet-Schuhe gefallen mir jedenfalls total gut. Ich würde sie sofort gegen meine U-Bahn-Monatskarte tauschen. Da der Einzelspieler-Modus von Tribes auch gelungen ist, gibt es von mir ganz klar einen Daumen nach oben.

In fine, des questions se posent. Tribes 3 meilleurs que Tribes ? "Meilleur" peut-être pas, différent dans la continuité disons, et peut-être plus accessible. "Et par rapport à UT2004 ?". Voilà deux mondes bien différents. Tribes Vengeance est plus exigeant si on souhaite survivre et possède un aspect tactique et des subtilités de gameplay plus développés, le tout combiné à une expérience de jeu intense et nerveuse. Les adeptes d'un Unreal Tournament plus brut de décoffrage n'accrocheront pas nécessairement. Mais voilà une excellente alternative.

Overall, Tribes: Vengeance is a great game. There are some missteps that a later patch or expansion should definitely address, but right out of the box the look, gameplay style and level of depth make this an easy buy for PC action gamers.

Tribes: Vengeance joins the growing list of titles that you have to add to your collection for 2004. It finds its niche by providing great multiplayer action, allowing it to join the ranks as an alternative to Unreal Tournament 2004. While the character animations in the single-player cut scenes detract from the overall product (I guess Doom 3 spoiled me), Irrational Studios should be applauded for translating the action and intensity of the Tribes multiplayer game into a mostly satisfying, single-player setting.

Malgré sa campagne solo fort distrayante, Tribes : Vengeance est avant tout un FPS multiplayer extrêmement complexe et difficile à maîtriser. Si vous jouez rarement ou que vous êtes un inconditionnel des titres "réalistes", passez voter chemin. En revanche, si vous êtes en manque de challenge et que vous cherchez un jeu pour y investir les prochaines années de votre vie à perfectionner votre style en faisant de la compétition, T:V est fait pour vous.

Tribes : Vengeance a su évoluer sans perdre les nombreuses qualités qui ont fait la renommée de la série. Très beau, à condition d'avoir un PC récent, doté d'une durée de vie exceptionnelle et disposant enfin d'un mode solo digne de ce nom, le titre reprend haut la main le flambeau de Tribes 2 duquel il se différencie pourtant clairement. Moins démesuré à de nombreux niveaux, le titre a préféré la simplicité et l'ergonomie pour séduire un public plus large peut-être réfractaire à l'énorme temps d'apprentissage que nécessitait son prédécesseur. Un choix qui peut dérouter au début mais qui s'avère payant au final puisque le jeu s'en trouve véritablement dynamisé sans perdre son aspect tactique qui en fera un morceau de choix pour les amateurs de LAN déjà prêts à créer leur clan pour des combats mémorables. Shazbot !

Als Tribes 2 vor drei Jahren kam, liefen die Fans weg. Erst nach etlichen Patches und Mod-Stützen von Drittanbietern war der Mehrspieler-Shooter von allen Bugs befreit. Um die Wahrscheinlichkeit zu vermindern, dass sich die Geschichte wiederholt, legte Vivendi die Entwicklung des dritten Teils in die vertrauenswürdigen Hände der Macher von Spielen wie System Shock 2 und Freedom Force: Irrational Games sollte Schadensbegrenzung betreiben und neben dem Mehrspieler-Herzstück auch eine Einzelspieler-Kampagne programmieren.

Tribes Vengeance ist im Singleplayer-Modus auf jeden Fall klasse Action-Kost. Auch ohne echte Mitstreiter macht das Fliegen mit dem Jetpack einen Heidenspaß. Wenn ich aus absurder Höhe durch geschicktes Vorhalten einen Gegner erledige und dann nach einer eleganten Landung an einem Berg hinab gleite, lacht das Baller-Herz. Das Leveldesign ist prächtig auf die Flug-Option zugeschnitten. Gerade in Gebäuden macht es Spaß, sich den Weg in obere Etagen per Raketenantrieb zu bahnen und Gegner wegzuholzen. Da kneif ich dann auch mal gerne beide Augen zu und vergesse die altbackene Grafik.

Tribes: Vengeance is een degelijke shooter met tal van problemen waardoor het spel de titel klassieker met wijde boog misloopt.

In the end, Tribes: Vengeance isn't everything it could if been. It's undeniably a great game with a lot of excellent ideas, however it does seem lacking in some areas. At its best, Tribes gives you a fantastic sense of freedom that you simply don't find in other FPS games, which will hopefully help to push the genre in interesting new directions. It's the implementation of other aspects, such as vehicles and weapons that just don't work as well. It's certainly worth picking up, and is sure to build a fanatical following online, but it just doesn't seem as complete as it ought to. So, if you're tired of the current crop of games, and want an FPS that's a bit different, look no further. And lets not forget that jetpacks rule...
