Triple Play has always been the heavy hitter of baseball franchises, and Triple Play 2002 shamelessly continues in the tradition of its forebearers. That aspect of the game may turn some off of its mechanics, but it’s hard to argue with graphics and sounds of this quality. For the majority of players, the gameplay will also be of major appeal, since it’s based on a the human player’s skill working together with the baseball player’s abilities. Since the modes range from the simple Home Run Derby to the far more involved season and draft pick, gamers of all persuasions should be able to find a fit for their preferences with ease. For next year’s release, EA Sports had best introduce some more new elements, but since this is the first inning on the XBox, fans of this all-American sport owe it to themselves to grab a copy of Triple Play 2002.

If you’re looking for an excellent baseball title--among the already growing lineup--Triple Play 2002 should be on the top of your list. It has enough to satisfy sports minded gamers looking for solid action without getting irritated by complicated controls.

Triple Play 2002 is a very fun baseball game to play. The game's great graphics, involving gameplay, and great commentary all blend together to deliver an exciting and authentic game of baseball. Whether or not it's the game for you completely depends on your personal preference. If you're looking for a die-hard baseball sim, High Heat might be a better choice. Nonetheless, a rental of this and the other baseball games on the market should quickly clear up any confusion you might have.

In the end, Triple Play 2002 is a very fun baseball game to play. The game's great graphics, involving gameplay, and great commentary all blend together to deliver an exciting and authentic game of baseball. Whether or not it's the game for you completely depends on your personal preference. If you're looking for a game that is a little more realistic, All-Star Baseball might be a better choice. Nonetheless, a rental of the various Xbox baseball games on the market should quickly clear up any confusion you might have.

While it's the best-looking boys of summer game on PS2, it's the second-best baseball purchase for the platform. 3DO's High Heat 2003 will be more fun over more time, but if you like your games as pretty as a lingerie model, Triple Play's cup runneth over.

Triple Play Baseball 2002 offers easy, arcade-like play controls and decent enough visuals, but the weak two-player experience seriously cuts down on the overall enjoyment.

Triple Play also strikes out in the game mode department. You can play through an entire season, draft a team, create-a-player, and compete in the Home Run Derby, but that's about the gist of it. No flash, no pop, just a straight-up baseball game that looks great and plays okay.

XboxGame Revolution
Triple Play 2002 is an entirely different take on the genre. Pitching is easy and fun, while batting is almost too difficult. The nice sound and graphics really save this game from mediocrity, leading to a game that's at least worth the price of a rental.

If you like watching baseball, Triple Play puts on a pretty glorious show. But if you like playing baseball, it's more of a caricature that's best suited for rookie gamers or the most casual of fans. Stick with High Heat MLB 2003 for the PS2's best representation of America's pastime.

PlayStation 2IGN
Overall Triple Play 2002 is a wasteland of should have been, could have been, and never was. With a myriad of problems in just about every category you could think of, any fan interest beyond a two-day rental is quite a stretch. While a change in developers may have been a large determining factor in the lower quality the game presents, the lack of entertainment in this, a final build, is inexcusable. Play this one at your own risk.

Unfortunately, the only thing this game does well is make the stadiums look spectacular. Everything that happens inside the stadiums, however, is where Triple Play takes a cleat to the groin. The fielding is pathetically bad, and the AI is suspect on a number of levels.

Well, it was bound to happen at some point - EA has finally released a professional sports title that makes cleaning out the inside of a honeywagon sound fun. Not only is this year's Triple Play terrible when it comes to gameplay, but it's paired Bob Costas (the godfather of baseball commentary) up with some joker who says "that guy looked like a gazelle!" Do yourself a favor and steer clear of this stinker.

If you are a baseball lover then you must go with this year's champ High Heat 2003. As for Triple Play 2002, try renting it for a laugh but let's hope EA Sports can turn this franchise way around for next Spring.

As much as people tout graphics, the true test of a video game is how it plays. This couldn't be more true than with a sports title. Games can be ugly and still be champs. Just look at High Heat last year. So, while the graphics for Triple Play are pretty awful, the game could still be saved with superior gameplay. It's not.

Triple Play 2002 is a baseball game with decent aural and visual presentation that is completely ruined by awful, limiting, arcade-like gameplay. Baseball purists will find this game to be a complete joke and even moderate sports fans will be turned off by the game's inexcusably simplistic pitching and batting interface. With games like All-Star Baseball and World Series Baseball providing a much better hardball experience, gamers should definitely pass on shelling out hard-earned cash on this poor excuse for a baseball simulation.

EA definatly needs to straighten this series out. Is it a sim game or a home run fest? Thats one question they need to decide on and quit disguising this arcadey shallow coaster as a deep sim baseball game.
