Delta Tau One
Description
Delta Tau One is a fixed screen shoot 'em up that mostly resembles Galaxian. As in that game the player has to shoot down wave after wave of space aliens who occasionally make haphazard kamikaze attacks toward the player. The player's mission is to penetrate alien controlled sectors of space, by simply killing all the aliens, and thus allow the galactic fleet to take control of the area.
Space is divided into sectors that the player can jump between by using hyperwarp. After destroying all enemies in a sector the player automatically moves on to the next one. For each new sector the opposing alien fleet gets more powerful. At the first sector the aliens don't shoot, but in the later sectors they are armed with photon torpedoes and after sector four they fire at different speeds. When starting out the player has four ships and four units of hyperspace energy. More ships and energy is given for each 10,000 points scored and an extra ship is also given at the start of each sector. There are four kinds of enemies: fighter, interceptor, cruiser and flag ship, and each is worth a different amount of points.

Trivia
Development
Delta Tau One is notable for being the first commercial game by Matthew Smith who would late become famous for Manic Miner and Jet Set Willy. In a 1984 interview with Personal Computer Games (who misspelled it as Delta Tower One), Smith stated that it had been written in weeks and that it sold about 13 copies, making him a £50 profit. He also described it as "just an average game".
