The Racetrack

This simple ASCII-graphics TRS-80 game has you guiding a "Grand Prix" race car down a twisting racetrack that is filled with potholes. The object is to make it to the finish line of each racetrack after which you advance to the next difficulty level and must take on a more dangerous track. If you run off the road or hit one of the potholes you must start the race over again. The game is played from an overhead view with your car driving "down" the screen as the roadway and obstacles scroll up from the bottom of the screen. The controls allow you to steer left and right at two different rates - normal and fast. Difficulty is increased during gameplay by moving the position of your car gradually lower on the screen, giving you less time to react to curves and potholes.

The game offered rudimentary sound if you plugged the TRS-80 cassette cable into a speaker.
