The Video Game Critic (Mar 20, 2010)
If this Raiden seems easier to play than most, it might have something to do with the fact that you get to use the entire screen! Other versions dedicate the right third to scoring information, but on the Turbografx this information is simply overlaid at the bottom of the screen. Works like a charm. Your ship handles like a dream, and the collision detection is forgiving - maybe too much so. There were a few times when I thought I got clipped by a passing helicopter only to emerge unscathed. The soundtrack is likeable but lacks the richness of the Genesis version. Still, when taking the Pepsi challenge of Raidens, I'm going with the Turbografx every time.
1UP! (Apr 06, 2012)
TurboPlay (Dec, 1991)
Even the drawbacks mentioned, I found Raiden to be a very enjoyable game, but I would have to recommend it for the serious shooter fans. It's a tough game to go through, even with a fully powered weapon.
Raiden for the Turbo is one fine vertical scrolling shooter.

Was bleibt also in der Waagschale?
Level after level, this is a nearly perfect conversion of the arcade version, except for one small fact. There's no second player option in this game. The second player is nearly essential to beat the game as you need twice the firepower flying around the screen. Without it, the game becomes dastardly hard and frustrating. Perhaps the system couldn't handle the second player or they somehow forgot to put it in. Either way, this nearly perfect version of Raiden is marred by this glaring oversight. It's a quality shooter but don't expect to beat it on your own unless you eat shooters for breakfast.
