The plot is a short one: Your fiancee was kidnapped by Dracula and so you, Richter Belmont, go on a journey to rescue her and destroy Dracula. The game has a few cutscenes to tell you the story, in the game itself you don't get anything story related.

The game itself consist of you trying to reach the end of each floor, defeating evil creatures on the way with your whip. Nearly every stage has an alternate exit, and on each exit you will have a special boss. To beat them you need good timing and good reactions.
