The idea was excellent on paper: a WWII game that breaks the mold of all its predecessors, paving a way for “What If?” games in the future… Too bad the actual product lacked the excellence first imagined. Turning Point could have been an amazing game. They had a very well thought out story going for them, some unique concepts for weaponry, a character who wasn’t some war hero out to save the world, and just enough hype to make it known yet not overshadow it. Still, the execution was what killed it. I truly believe that, had they given the development at least another few months to beef up the visuals and sounds and maybe even add a bit to the campaign itself, this could have been a great game, possibly making a few top 10 lists along the way.

I did enjoy playing this game, don’t get me wrong. But the negative points of it have made this an easy review for me. This is a game for rent without a shadow of a doubt. The shortness and the general issues with it mean I can’t really recommend anything else. You’ll finish it within a weekend I can guarantee that, and I don’t think there is any replay value in it, not even in the online play with the strength of the competition out there. Rent this game and do play it. It is a very good game with a very good story. You’ll just finish it really quickly.

Turning Point: Fall of Liberty seems a good idea for a story, but in reality this game just doesn’t match up to the wonderful Call of Duty 4, which it seems is the benchmark for any War game that is to be released these days.

Should you buy it? There's not a lot happening in the world of the First Person Shooter right now - chances are good you've played Call of Duty 4 to death, Rainbow Six Vegas might not be your cup of tea and Halo 3 was last year, so you've got to be over that by now. So sure, if you're into your FPS and are looking for a thrill before the next triple-A title hits and don't mind a little less polish than you've come to expect, why not. Just don't expect anything close to the glory that is those other titles and expect even those low expectations to occasionally be a little north of reality. It's a fun diversion and worth investigating.

If you aren’t sick of shooting Nazis yet, Turning Point provides a barely serviceable alternative that unfortunately doesn’t capitalize on its intriguing premise. The glitches and poor level design don’t quite ruin a game that should have been so much more than the sum of its parts. Still, there’s some fun to be had here with a weekend rental.

Turning Point: Fall of Liberty is a fantastic concept that would make a great movie but doesn’t really evolve into much of a game mostly due to last-gen graphics and uninspired gameplay. If you are an avid history buff or enjoy a clever sci-fi twist dealing with alternate realities then the concept alone might be enough to make this worthy of a rental, otherwise wait for this title to hit the bargain bins.

Every time Turning Point does something well, it falls short somewhere else. Aside from the frustrating control inconsistencies and the abbreviated storyline, this is still a well-made trek through a history that thankfully never happened. Though the sluggish multiplayer mode doesn't even deserve a glance, the predominantly solid mechanics and terrifying premise make this a more than competent deviation for someone itching to kill more Nazis.

Overall, Turning Point: Fall of Liberty is game which had some fantastic ideas and concepts. You can tell when everyone at Sparks Unlimited got together in the drawing room, the level of excitement must have been high. Unfortunately, the great ideas did not transform into a solid shooter. The graphical glitches and problematic gameplay drastically hampers Turning Point’s overall enjoyment. As such, I can only recommend picking this one up in a few months when it becomes much cheaper then it already is.

Turning Point: Fall of Liberty is a novel idea on paper, but is ultimately let down by its shooter by numbers gameplay and under par presentation. When there have been lots of WWII shooters in the past and a general vibe that gamers are somewhat tired of the theme, then you'd think as a developer you'd really try and make something memorable and special. Sadly Spark have failed to do so, and with all the hype they made prior to the game's release, it seems they are somewhat out of touch as to what makes a compelling and amazing gaming experience. For the most part, I gleaned as much fun a I could from the game, but with no real redeeming features to keep me hooked, everything felt lifeless and dull. I would only recommend renting Turning Point and that's if you are bored of the current crop of shooters available. There's a minor amount of fun to be had here, but with so many things that could have been better realized, the whole idea has been a wasted opportunity in my eyes.

WindowsComputer Games
Turning Point: Fall of Liberty is a good idea put badly into practice; what you might call an unfinished game. The competition may not be too powerful on consoles, but on PCs it can not make the difference. Even if we overlook the underdeveloped story (though it represents the heart of the game) we would still come across an excessive linearity, an undeveloped AI and a very short single-player (three acts totalizing some five hours of playtime) with a very poor feeling. Killing the Nazis is not a novelty, but if you like this kind of games, you can give it a chance. At least it won’t take you very long.

f you read the previous previews I wrote on Turning Point, you know that I had high hopes that the cool story concept would extend into a compelling shooter. And our earlier looks at the game revealed that the promise of a solid game might be met. Unfortunately, much like the stairway I found just before I left the game’s New York levels, which led up to a doorless brick wall, Turning Point entertainment value is a bit of a dead end.

Turning Point: Fall of Liberty is an excellent game idea that doesn’t live up to its potential. Turning Point is filled with dull missions, simplistic artificial intelligence, dated graphics, and a whole pile of over used mojo. If you are a die-hard shooter fan than Fall of Liberty can keep one entertained for at least one run through the campaign, just don’t expect anything more. Its unfortunate that Turning Point: Fall of Liberty's explosive setting isn't enough to save itself from mediocrity.

Turning Point: Fall of liberty is a shining example of a great idea poorly executed. There is fun to be had with the game, but it's not the grand adventure it claims to be. Shooting Nazis in the streets of three major U.S. cities should be a non-stop thrill ride that has me on the edge of my seat. This game provides the opposite experience. If you're a die-hard WWII buff (or zeppelin fetishist), give this one a rent. Otherwise, skip it and read a Harry Turtledove novel instead.

Admitted, there are few games completely bugfree and some games you'll have a hard time not tripping over some. Turning Point is somewhere in between, but there are enough present to make it irritating after a while. Qua images the game doesn't do so great either, the cartoony style is fun but at times seems more chosen for being an easy solution than a choice of style. The music on the other hand is very good. Old-skool orchestral tunes hold off the ultimate point of frustration for a while.

After finishing the brief and uninspiring campaign, there's little temptation to try the multiplayer mode. If you choose to avoid it, you won't be missing much. The same gameplay woes that plague the campaign are here in the deathmatch and team deathmatch modes, which support a meager eight players. Multiplayer doesn't add a lot to the overall experience, in the same way that the campaign doesn't build upon the overall premise. This theme of missed opportunity is a consistent one throughout Turning Point. What could have been a refreshing twist on the World War II genre instead is a lesson on how not to implement an interesting concept.

PlayStation 3Worth Playing
While the initial concept for Turning Point: Fall of Liberty is certainly unique and fascinating, the title doesn't do anything that's worth talking about. The gameplay, graphics and multiplayer were all substandard, given today's expectations. Even the sound, which I so highly praised, was the only praiseworthy aspect of the title. Even the most die-hard FPS fans will have a difficult time finding enjoyment in Turning Point, and because of that, I have a hard time even recommending it as a rental.

Xbox 360Cheat Code Central
Although Turning Point had an interesting storyline, it still ends up being an incredibly limited and generic WWII shooter. I would like to say that the storyline alone makes this game worth playing through but the quality is just not there. With all of the great first-person shooters already available on these consoles, this game is honestly just a waste of your money. If you own an Xbox 360, just pick up a copy of Bioshock, Halo 3 or Call of Duty 4. If you are a PS3 owner, grab a copy of Call of Duty 4, Resistance, or just wait a little while for Resistance 2 to be released. Any of these titles should serve you better and make you less angry about the money you've spent.

Xbox 360Gaming Nexus
Despite Turning Point having a potentially good story it does nothing else than introduce the player to new levels filled with enemies that do not grow in intelligence or difficulty. Even given the interesting game play mechanics such as environmental kills and shimming across pipes and ledges does not help this game succeed in becoming anything more than a mindless corridor shooter.

PlayStation 3Middle East Gamers (MEgamers)
Turning Point: Fall of Liberty is a game which its developers have made one big mistake: ruining a potential good story. In this era of first-person shooters' popularity, releasing a game with this quality only brings one conclusion in the mind and that is earning the easy money and this is so sad considering the previous effort of Spark Unlimited Company which was a good Call of Duty game(COD: Finest Hour on Original Xbox/PS2/GameCube). This title is by no means the one to buy and by no means the one to even rent. The game's tagline is turning point and that is exactly what you have to do: turning away from it.

Sadly, you will battle nearly as many bugs as Nazis through the course of Turning Point. For all the game gets wrong, which marks about ninety-eight percent of the game, they deserve credit for at least writing a solid, heroic ending to the game. The trick is plodding through four to five hours of bad to get to the thirty-seconds of goodness. Turning Point is unfortunate proof that a good concept is not enough. The lack of polish to the half-heartedly told story makes it a disappointment, but the bugs make it a disaster of Hindenburg proportions.

Usant et abusant de mécanismes éculés, le titre n'arrive jamais à mettre en valeur ses toutes petites idées. You can’t help but feel cheated by the lack of polish overall on this game as a PC gamer. Spark has taken the tried and tested graphical powerhouse that is the Unreal III Engine and churned out a straight port of a console game that takes all the power of the modern PC and totally ignores it. Try customising the controls. Is that an X-box controller I see before me? I think so! Is that the Uninstall icon I am clicking on like a man possessed? Jawohl!

Turning Point: Fall of Liberty is a game that tries to turn the WWII shooter genre on its head, but it fails at the most fundamental parts. From the paper thin storyline to the wonky controls, this is a game that could have used a lot more development time. While there is a little fun to be had here, this game is really only for those die hard FPS players that need to play every game on the market. With others in the genre doing almost everything better, this is nothing more than a rental here for those only interested in the concept.

I have no qualms about making the comparisons to Call of Duty. Not only do the games share roots in WWII, but Spark Unlimited was the developer behind Finest Hour. It wasn’t the crowing achievement of the series, but the solid level designs, heartfelt storytelling, and compelling multiplayer showed a lot of passion. After three years and a pitiful second showing, Spark probably has a ‘what if’ or two for itself. It’s an interesting question, but unfortunately, it can’t change reality.

Xbox 360Thunderbolt Games
It is with this optimism that Turning Point: Fall of Liberty ultimately falters. Although there are a lot of decent ideas here, the way in which it has been executed only matches the stature of titles from the last-generation. More time could, and most probably should have been taken in order to re-define the World War Two genre in a new and exciting way. A lack of direction within the gameplay and narrative ensures that this is one gamers will overlook like so many before. It’s a cold world out there, and not wearing that coat of polish is a formula for an inconceivably poor title that is easy to pass by without a second thought.
40
Xbox 360Console Obsession
Turning Point isn’t completely without its merits, but the games engine could have done with a bit more hammering and nails to make its shaky foundations more robust. Quite frankly to buy such buggy games as this, would be a terrible disservice to the games industry, so quite simply don’t.

Xbox 360PAL Gaming Network (PALGN)
It really is a shame how Turning Point: Fall of Liberty has turned out. When we first heard about the premise for the game we were rather excited, but the storyline is quickly forgotten about and was really only implemented in the game to justify the change of location. The silly AI, terrible glitches, haphazard frame rate, poor aiming and tacked on multiplayer mode don't do Fall of Liberty any favours. Anyone looking for an enjoyable FPS should avoid this game like War.

Xbox 360AceGamez
It pains me to say this, but Turning Point: Fall of Liberty is a wholly disappointing experience that fails to live up to its lofty premise. So much potential is wasted in poor execution, unfinished code and sloppy graphics that I can only recommend this game if you really have nothing else to play or are simply aching for a new WWII style shooter; a noble attempt at reinvigorating an arguably tired genre is sadly marred by general mediocrity and numerous failings.

Despite an interesting game world, a rather exciting opening segment and a strong developer this is a game that fell well below expectations. Indeed I would go so far as to say this has been the most disappointing game on the PS3 to date when you look at the potential that it had, and the final product. Turning Point: Fall of Liberty manages to fall well short of even the most lenient standards in almost every manner. The bad design choices and general feel of a buggy budget title make this an extremely hard game to swallow for $60. Even if the game was only $10, I'd have trouble telling you that it's a good idea to get it. Turning Point is one of the worst Xbox 360 titles I've played, and the only reason anyone should ever play it is if you love to see the worst of the worst, as this title certainly gives atrocities like Bomberman Act Zero and Fusion Frenzy 2 a run for their money.

Turning Point: Fall of Liberty is a prime example of how not to make a decent FPS, and with so many better titles out there now and a lack of budget pricing, it's hard to imagine what the devs were thinking. The setting and almost-story are worthwhile, just very shoddily realized and executed. F.E.A.R. Platinum, Vegas 2, and TimeShift (among others) are all out right now, and each is easily more deserving of your cash than Turning Point. If you simply must play a WWII-themed game, stick with the earlier Medal of Honor or Call of Duty games, or pick up the oldie-but-goodie Freedom Fighters to get your fix of repelling invaders on American soil.

It’s tough to pinpoint the worst trait of Turning Point. You could go with its stupid reimagining of World War II, painfully linear level design, sloppy player movement that finds your character constantly hung up on objects while moving through the boring environments, terrible iron sights that tend to block out your target, the broken clipping that has soldiers falling through walls, or the brain-dead AI that sometimes fails to register your presence. More than anything, despite its calamitous faults, Turning Point: Fall of Liberty is a stinging slap in the face to videogame creators working tirelessly to better the FPS genre, and also the ever-faithful consumers who are expected to pay the same price for this as they are for the likes of BioShock and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. And, by way of a warning to any FPS fans looking further into 2008 for a standout shooter to continue the recent resurgence, Spark are also the team behind the upcoming Legendary: The Box. Turning Point: Fall of Liberty is certainly not for hardcore gamers, or any other type of gamer for that matter. The entertaining bits are effectively squashed by an overwhelming lack of polish. A few more months in development might have done great - or even just acceptable - things for this game. But it's far too late for that now. Turning Point does manage to set itself apart from the cavalcade of mediocre FPS titles on the market. Problem is, it's the broken elements which distinguish it most.

Turning Point is irreparably marred by what seems to be a premature release and the lack of a real direction. The opening sequence is one of the most memorable in recent memory but it is almost as if the developers spent all of their creative energy on it leaving the rest of the game to degenerate into a bland, plot-less mess. Though the premise is compelling, the stale single player and vacant multiplayer do nothing to salvage the enjoyment of the game. Rather, they destine the game to lapse into obscurity almost as quickly as it came.

We had to play it because we were sent it to review but we’d much rather throw it in the bin and get on with our gaming lives. It gets a 3/10 purely because it doesn’t crash and the back-story is relatively fresh. Aside from that it’s akin to a kick in the balls and it revels in the fact it’s doing it. With this being perhaps the best time ever for the first-person shooter genre, mediocre, poorly-wrought games like Turning Point stick out more than they normally would. The only thing worse than suffering through poor controls in unoriginal settings is doing so in objectively bad levels. First-person platforming is bad enough, but having to do so on maps saturated with invisible walls and lame climbing sections is salt in the wound. Long load times after a death are irritating; coming back into the game to find you hadn’t crossed a checkpoint in the last 20 minutes is maddening. Turning Point has all this and more. With the number of average-to-outstanding FPS titles available on next-gen consoles, there’s absolutely no reason to waste your time with this disaster.

With this being perhaps the best time ever for the first-person shooter genre, mediocre, poorly-wrought games like Turning Point stick out more than they normally would. Its technical flaws are very much at odds with the standards that have been renewed by the best games of last year, and its uninspired game design feels completely mired in an era that we'd sooner be done with. There's simply no reason to waste your time with it.

So yes, it's just generally bad, if not entirely appalling, and given the huge number of excellent shooters released in the latter stages of 2007, there's no excuse to get caught out by this one. If Churchill had died, we might all be speaking German, but at least we wouldn't have to put up with nonsense like this.

In response to poor review scores from across the pond, Spark Unlimited representatives have stated that Turning Point was targeted for a more casual audience than standard FPS titles - a reason that both Eidos and Pivotal used to explain away Conflict: Denied Ops. In truth however, claims that Fall of Liberty's allegiance to the newly popularised 'casual gamer' is little more than a thinly veiled excuse. If that was the case, why wasn't it developed for the casual gaming-focused Wii? And why should casual gamers be targeted with titles that are bug-ridden and all-round poor? Finally, what does it mean to be a so-called 'casual FPS' - surely casual gamers are too pre-occupied with Dr. Kawashima and Tetris to worry about saving New York City in any case...

Overall, Fall of Liberty is a miserable letdown. There's no real point to playing the game, as the broken gameplay and lifeless presentation do nothing to support it. The lack of acceptable multiplayer kills the momentum too. Do yourself a favor and stick with the better war games on the market. This one just ends up missing the Point.

A disappointment in every sense of the word but you already know that by now, having been able to play it for over a month. This is the last PS3 game we want to see that looks like a PS2 title.

The market is drowning in high-concept shooters right now: You can control time or hunt dinosaurs, shoot with a buddy or a bank robber, and even shoot up if that’s your thing. But there’s so little to this particular Resistance send-up that you’ll wish for a timeline where you played something else - anything else - instead.

Quite frankly, it’s hard to decide which aspect of Turning Point: Fall of Liberty is the worst. Maybe it’s the hideous visuals, bringing an incredible game engine to its knees with bland textures and hideous excuses for human beings. Maybe it’s the broken combat, with its moronic AI and incredibly mangled aiming. Maybe it’s just the fact that Spark Unlimited, creators of the enjoyable Call of Duty: Finest Hour, have fucked up so badly that they’ve brought a game with sub-PS2 visuals to next-gen consoles and the only good thing about it is that the music is rather good. Avoid Turning Point, even if it means running in front of a taxi.

Turning Point: Fall of Liberty does have a great set-up, and that’s about it. The game tells its story horribly, your character is both improbable and without any personality, the AI is terrible, the gameplay lackluster, and graphics middling. Even as a budget title, which Turning Point is certainly doomed to become, the game is hardly worth the bother. Well, unless you like “high concept titles” of course.

Turning Point: Fall of Liberty is een waar gedrocht.

In many ways Turning Point: Fall of Liberty is playable, but there’s so much unredeemable dross that you should seriously question why you purchased the game when every other FPS on the system is far more deserving of your money. If you must shoot Nazis on the Xbox 360, pick up Call of Duty 2 if you haven’t already. It’s cheap and you can use the rest of the money to get a handful of professional leaflets printed up warning people of the health hazards associated with purchasing Turning Point: Fall of Liberty. Hell, even A-Train HX offers more excitement.

I focus on the concept because Turning Point's content is so utterly forgettable that it almost doesn't warrant comment: Ironically übermenschian everyman Dan Carson stutters his way through America's remarkably linear Eastern Seaboard and beyond, blasting stormtroopers that block access to checkpoints and levers that need pulling. The pacing and variety are pre-Call of Duty at best, and the only moment of satisfaction comes in the form of a mushroom cloud that vaporizes the hero at the end of the game -- a merciful explosion that precludes a sequel. I wouldn't recommend Turning Point to anyone, under any circumstances...and if that's not the definition of utter failure, I don't know what is.
