Overall this game is a step forward in console gaming, it shows off the true power of the Nu64 in graphics and gameplay. It is extremely fun to play and the fascination of exploring is tremendous. Acclaim didn't make just a better sequel they made one of the best games of the year. For Turok and action fans you're in for a treat. Expansion pack isn't required to see awesome graphics but it raises resolution to give it a slick more detailed look, which is appreciated.

It's bigger and better in every way, including one of the best multiplayer modes ever made in Frag Tag. The addition of extra mission elements makes it as deep as GoldenEye. First-person action gamers will not be able to live without it.

So, what are you waiting for? Run right out and buy this game! Remember to buy the Expansion Pak--it’s worth it just for this game, and hopefully there will be future N64 games that will take advantage of it. This may be the best N64 game to date, no joke.

Overall, Turok 2 is a well balanced game with a high excitement factor that helps it stand out among most first person shooters. If you own a Nintendo 64 system and you are looking for a great first-person shooter to tide you over till the next GoldenEye sequel, Turok 2 has all the right elements. I give this game 4 1/2 out of 5 GiN gems.

Just as GoldenEye raised the bar for first-person shooters, so too has Turok 2. Surely no one expected the genre to sit still. Learning its lessons well, Iguana and Acclaim have amply displayed that they know what it takes to compete in this genre. Turok 2: Seeds of Evil certainly and inarguably brings us the flash. More importantly, however, it brings us the thunder. It's a landmark shooter and a must-buy.

If our review has left you a little confused as to whether Turok 2 is the game for you, think about what you're looking for. If all you're looking for is a one-player shooter and you don't care about the multiplayer mode and the hi-res graphics, then I'd say drop the overall rating by 1.5. The core game has its flashes of brilliance, but it also has some problems. Turok 2 really lives off its visuals and the art design, and the multiplayer experience pushes it over the top. If you cringe every time you see a framerate drop in an N64 game, give this game a rental first (and use the letterbox mode). But if you're into multiplayer deathmatches, there is no way around Turok 2. You must have it. This game has almost unlimited replay value and will keep four gamers glued to their sets for ages.

Look, we don't want to sound too negative. Check out the score: like we said, Turok 2 is a very, very good game. We do feel that Iguana could have spent more time utilising the PC's strong points (by joining the levels together a la Half-Life and removing the fogging, for example), but despite this they've still come up with an engrossing, exciting game packed with plenty of surprises. It's also pretty damn huge, and will keep you rivetted from beginning to end. It may be more console-oriented than the likes of Half-Life, but in the occasionally musty world of PC games a little arcade immediacy is no bad thing. Anyone should lap up Turok 2. Except perhaps dinosaurs.

If you've missed the exquisitely detailed graphics of the N64, or long to explore every inch of a 3D map, Turok 2 could be a good buy for you. Just remember that unless you have incredible patience, you WILL get frustrated, disoriented, and confused. Of course if worse comes to worst, there's always multiplayer mode, which can't possibly merit more than an overall rating of 82.

Turok 2: Seeds of Evil was an incredible achievement for Acclaim Entertainment and proves that the first game wasn't just a lucky one-off. While it — or any of the other Turok games for that matter — never enjoyed the same commercial success that its James Bond counterpart did, it certainly set a new technical benchmark when it came onto the scene. It's a visually stunning experience, where the high-quality graphics and an astonishing amount of detail constantly surprise you. The unusual setting and multiplayer mode may not be to everyone’s tastes, and it’s rather choppy in terms of performance, but nevertheless Turok 2: Seeds of Evil is quite possibly the best third-party effort ever released for Nintendo 64. It may be almost 15 years since it hit the classic 64-bit system, but that shouldn't stop you from equipping your Tek Bow and heading out into battle one more time.

Usually the games that do the 'little things' right which show a developer was really on the ball are what seperate the classics from the forgettable. Somehow though Turok 2 managed to nail all of the small stuff but forgot to put a decent game around it. Its just overflowing with nice touches, yet it doesn't come together as a whole.

Nintendo 64Gaming Age
If you're looking for nothing more than an eminently attractive run-and-gunner with a few nifty tricks up its sleeve, Turok 2 will probably fit the bill, provided you aren't a frame rate junkie and you don't mind having to play long stretches at a time. On the other hand, if you are looking for an FPS that will offer something a little more original at the core, as Half-Life and Goldeneye do, you'd probably be better served in making Turok 2 a rental or passing it up altogether, unless you crave a new multiplayer FPS.

WindowsIGN
In the end, Turok 2 proves that what makes a good game on the N64 doesn't necessarily have what it takes to satisfy PC gamers. Some of the things that N64 gamers woo about-sound reactive opponents, enemies that hide, and locational damage-have been in most PC shooters for years. If it would have been released two years ago, Turok 2 might have stood a chance in the PC FPS market. But as it stands now, there's just not enough room for a game like Turok 2.

If you love shooters, you'll like Turok 2. It's obviously not in the same league as Half-Life in design and immersion, nor does it compare to Quake for pure entertainment. It's not the most fun shooter, but if you don't mind old key-hunting gameplay and the annoying hub-based design, by all means step into Turok's shoes again.

WindowsComputer Gaming World (CGW)
The biggest downside to TUROK 2 has to be the level design. You run around, find the switch, hit the switch, find the door that opened, rescue someone, find the portal, go to the next maze of repetitive bitmaps, arid generally operate in a confused state. Further addling is the overlay map, a Ia DARK FORCES. It’s a serious pain trying to watch out for hazards in front of you while playing a game of Lock ‘n’ Chase at the same time. Worse yet, there is no static map that you can access while paused. What seems like an attempt to be challenging ultimately just makes the game boring. So if you’re thinking about suggesting some TUROK 2 multiplay the next time you’re meeting with your QUAKE clan, forget it, they’ll laugh you out of the group. However, if your 10-year-old cousin who got that new Celeron for Christmas needs a game to introduce him to first-person shooters, you could do a lot worse than TUROK 2. A whole lot.

That aside, for those who liked Turok or can forgive the faults of Turok 2, it is an enjoyable game. The decent graphics, great weapons, abundance of gore, and unusual environs offer something moderately new to the first-person-shooter crowd. It's even fun. That is, until the tedium sets in and you start proclaiming your angst over all this game's N64 caused misfortunes, in song, with a New York accent, so that "Dinosoids" doesn't sound quite out of place.

Nintendo 64The Next Level
So, how could I talk about so many highlights in this game and still rate it as I did? Well, I can't really get into FPS games anymore. I've had my fill; no amount of innovation or new features could change my mind. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't give it a try. If all of these things I've talked about gets your bloodlust going, by all means, try this out. As for me, I think I'll play something else.

WindowsAdrenaline Vault, The (AVault)
This is, without a doubt, an absolute disappointment. I had hoped the graphics would be enhanced, but they slump prostrate to competing games; I wanted the game to submit something unique, but it is derivative and tedious; and as opposed to presenting a challenge, the enemies crumble with ease. Add sluggish movement and controls, and this game was extinct ages ago.

Nintendo 64The Video Game Critic
The four-player split screen mode was more than my friends could stomach with its dark, muddled graphics. My friend Scott was appalled that he couldn't kill Chris despite repeated hits and excessive blood. At one point he exclaimed "C'mon! - I even see organs on the ground!!" If you play Turok 2, you'll be hating life too. Seeds of Evil is an insufferable piece of garbage that set the franchise back to the Stone Age (or is that up to the Stone Age?)
