UEFA Champions League 2006-2007 is a great addition to the already bulging number of football games on the PSP. There's enough variety and accessibility in here to appeal to football 'noobs', while the depth of the management and the addictive nature of the matches should satisfy anyone who's played Pro Evo and/or FIFA to death and is still thirsty for more. Regardless of your gaming background, once you've loaded UEFA 06-07 into your PSP you'd better clear your schedule, because this deep, extensive and time-consuming game will keep you thoroughly entertained for a long time to come.

Fans of the teams currently still in the Champions League will find the most satisfaction here over the coming weeks as they use the PSP to predict crucial scores, but there's still plenty for the rest of us to enjoy. Provided, as mentioned, you don't own a recent FIFA already.

UEFA is an interesting and worthwhile addition to EA's growing library of soccer titles, thanks to its interesting mix of unique modes, quick-moving, fast-paced game, and its solid feel and reliable controls. The PSP connectivity adds another layer depth, as you can port your season back and forth between systems, and play three added mini-games. You might find better FIFA games on the market, but for a last-gen effort UEFA retains that feeling of fun and playability that is actually a little better than its Xbox 360 brethren.

UEFA is undeniably great fun, and if you buy it you'll be guaranteed wondergoals aplenty, but it's just about as far away from the beautiful game as it's possible to be.

PSPGame Chronicles
I had expectations of a big upgrade in gameplay for UEFA on the PSP. On the 360, EA really tweaked the FIFA 07 engine and added some great new features. Unfortunately the PSP version is a completely different ballgame. There are a handful of different features, but essentially this is just FIFA 07 with only the European teams. UEFA Champions League is a good game, but for 99% of the soccer fans in North America, FIFA is a far better choice.

The highlight of the game is definitely its Treble mode, and UEFA Champions League 2006-2007 is worth a look if you don’t have a soccer game in your PSP collection. The Treble mode can be challenging, though, so the game’s not for the gamer with only a passing interest in playing soccer on the go.

It's a shame the gameplay isn't better, as the fantastic story mode has some serious magnetism. For hardcore soccer gamers, Champions League's Treble gamble pays off, and it's definitely worth a long look.

UEFA Champions League is a good game, but its appeal is going to be limited to a small amount of people--namely, those with a strong interest in the Champions League. It doesn't play any better than FIFA and it isn't as deep, so unless you've got a strong desire to lead your team to the soccer equivalent of the Triple Crown, there's not much reason to pick up UEFA Champions League 2006-2007.

UEFA Champions League 2006-2007 is a fun game with realistic and accurate play. The instructions leave a bit to be desired, but even novice soccer players will be able to figure out the mechanics of the game without too much time and trouble. The thing that sets this game apart from other soccer games is the card trading element. It is fun and addictive, and earning packs is almost more fun than winning the matches themselves. With a strong game engine and good graphics, this game gets a strong recommendation.

True soccer fans will want to own every game on the market. Slightly less fanatic soccer fans or those on a budget may have to make a tough decision. The choice is easy if you're looking for an authentic experience with the European league. UEFA Champions may have its faults, but it is still a playable game. The other two games on the market right now offer tighter controls and a stronger visual presentation, but may not feature exactly these teams to the extent that fans desire. If you just want the best soccer game, we can't recommend UEFA Champions, but if you're willing to persevere, you will find some silver lining on this cloud.

Uefa Champions League is a funny old game. It can really be split up into two camps, those that have played Fifa 07 and those that haven't. If you're the latter and an avid football fan then we wholeheartedly recommend this title, if not then it's best waiting for the next Fifa or Pro Evolution Soccer instalment.

Overall, UEFA Champions League 2006-2007 is a fun game. I enjoyed it (please keep in mind I love soccer games) and was quickly addicted. However, I found faults in the game modes, which was the lack of a true career mode that gives you the feeling of managing a team. As it stands, UEFA has "The Treble", which is a decent story/career mode that puts your team in some tough challenges while chasing after the big win. In the end, UEFA made for a good soccer game that will serve soccer-centric gamers with hours of fun.

Football fans should have no problem picking up U.E.F.A. and enjoying themselves with a layered experience, but for me and gamers like me, I have a hard time even fairly scoring U.E.F.A. because it is so niche, so specifically targeted that a fully “objective” review just isn’t possible. For me it was more a matter of just enjoying the Play Now mode when some friends are over and we want to play some video game soccer. That’s fun. Not worrying about Achievements or cards or if the players are being accurately portrayed in physicality or their endurance – just playing and having a few laughs.

If you are looking for an in-depth footballer then you’re not going to get it with EA’s latest effort at the beautiful game. The PSP edition of UEFA Champions League 2006-2007 has been designed so it is easy to get into and fun to play in short bursts and that is exactly what you get from the game. But going back a few months, that is exactly what FIFA 07 on the same platform offered you so do you really need to hand over that wad of cash again for such a small upgrade?

This is a tough game to score. It's a solid enough effort, but it doesn't really feel fresh at all, online play doesn't work, and its appeal seems limited to only a certain number of Champions League fans - preferably ones who don't already have FIFA 07 - and that doesn't seem likely to comprise a large number of gamers. Quite frankly, it feels like EA is trying to double-dip on the PSP, which is unfortunate, because it does a rabid fan base of soccer fans a disservice and detracts from a game that's probably solid enough to stand on its own merits had I not played something nearly identical just a few months ago.

After spending a few days tinkering around with it, we like certain things about the handheld version of UEFA Champions League 2006-2007, but we feel that it's pretty much a build on last fall's game more than a distinctive title that stands out on its own. Considering that the FIFA engine has effectively been exhausted on PS2 and PSP, there's not much else that we could ask for, gameplay-wise, save for a few tiny tweaks. The Treble mode is an excellent touch that adds twists to the usual Manager mode. The visuals look solid for the system, but online play is a total mess and is probably not worth your time. Champions League is a decent-enough game, but is only a must-buy for completionists and die-hard soccer fans.

If you’re a member of the die-hard, fanatical, and obsessive soccer crew, UEFA will keep you busy until the next edition of FIFA hits in roughly 25 minutes. Card fans will be satisfied with the new options, while non-soccer fans will wonder what’s different enough to justify the price. UEFA is milking the sport dry on the 360, and it’s shame since it plays a solid game on the field.
