So finally, Sony get its long-awaited killer-app. And what a beauty it is. Uncharted 2 not only sets benchmarks for visuals (the lighting effects alone are stunning), story and sheer fun, but it also sets a worryingly high target for all that follow it to match. Simply put, Uncharted 2 is a reason to own a PS3.
Rated T for Teen due to blood, language, suggestive themes, and violence, this title is not appropriate for the youngsters, but will capture the imagination of older teen gamers. With adrenaline-inducing battle sequences, interesting platform and puzzling elements, compelling multiplayer adventures, and fabulous graphics, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is a beautifully crafted adventure that will keep both casual and season gamers addicted for a long time.
True Game Headz
It’s been said time and time again, that “Uncharted” takes everything we know and love about games and does it even better. Presented across beautiful locales, new multiplayer modes, and wrapped with solid gameplay and presentation, it becomes clear why this title has been marked for Game of the Year nominations already. “Uncharted 2″ proves that you don’t always have to build the next “Fl0w” to be innovative. There are some forward thinking developers out there who realize that re-inventing the wheel is not necessary to move forward in the over-crowded gaming genre of action adventures.
Among Thieves is all about constant movement. And even movement on top of movement. It grabbed me from the beginning and didn’t let go for twelve hours. Once I finished, all I could think about was playing it again. More than a defining game for the PS3, Uncharted 2 is a defining game of this console generation. It shows that games have outgrown the tired comparisons to film and that we’re witnessing the maturing of the medium. Yes, Naughty Dog has dropped a glorious deuce.
There is nothing bad to say about Uncharted 2, other than maybe the ending didn’t live up to the excitement which the game itself builds. The game takes storytelling and immersion to new heights, and has become a benchmark for graphical quality moving forward. Gun-fighting and platforming are well balanced, and take place over masterfully designed landscapes. Heart-pounding action will leave you in awe, as the game is brimming with memorable moments. Uncharted 2, as an entire single player and multiplayer experience, is hands down the best experience the PlayStation 3 has to offer. Not only is it easily the game of the year, but it quite possibly is one of the best games of all time.
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is a videogame masterpiece that must be experienced by all PS3 owners. Sure, this game started out as a Tomb Raider clone, but it has surpassed Ms. Croft’s adventures tenfold by pushing it beyond the limit. Visually it’s one of the best looking games you’re going to see on any system, and its movie style presentation is the icing on the cake. Toss in the addictive multiplayer modes and you have a complete package that is well worth the $60 price tag. The team over at Naughy Dog should definitely pat themselves on the back and have some celebratory drinks, then quickly run back to their desks to get the ball rolling on Uncharted 3, because we want more of the man named Nathan Drake. This one is a must own.
There's little to fault in Uncharted 2: a fact that's rare nowadays, despite huge budgets and years for development. Little details in the way characters react to one another and their surroundings make for a game that's both fun to play and amazing to watch. Every once in awhile you're bound to run into a glitch as you try to jump between ledges, or when you're spotted by an enemy that couldn't possibly see you; but for however many times your gun clips through a wall or you get lost from vague directions, there is more than enough to make up for it. Among Thieves is not only one of the best games of the year, it's also the benchmark for action games to come.
Gamestyle recommends Uncharted 2: Among Thieves to all PS3 owners, and would even go so far as to advise people to get the console just to play the game. It's truly an adventure from start to finish, and something that every gamer should experience. It sets the bar for action and storytelling, and although there are a couple of low-points with regard to predictable AI, it's by far the most entertaining game Gamestyle have played all year.
The Video Game Critic
Whoever wrote this dialogue is brilliant! I love it! The characters consistently toss out genuinely funny one-liners, and the profanity is thankfully restrained. Last but not least, the triumphant orchestrated musical score is momentous - worthy of a Hollywood blockbuster. The game clocks in at about 11 hours, and while many adventures pad their playing time with repetitive, time-consuming tasks, Uncharted 2 has zero filler. Among Thieves is so grand and well produced that pointing out minor glitches like awkward camera angles or stuttering animations seems almost petty. When it comes to making a playable video game, the Naughty Dog development team really "gets it", and with Uncharted 2 they've delivered one for the ages.
Adrenaline Vault, The (AVault)
Sequels, both in the game world and in Hollywood, tend to disappoint fans of the series more often than not (“Star Wars” fans can still be heard complaining about Episodes 1 to 3). Not so with Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. Although it has some missteps and the occasional glitch, it still stands head and shoulders above most of the shooters available today for any platform. I’m on record saying that Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune is the best shooter ever made. The sequel doesn’t quite reach those lofty heights, but Naughty Dog has once again produced an adventure game that even cinephiles should enjoy.
Every time a PS3 or Xbox 360 exclusive turns out to be great, there's a temptation to say some melodramatic bullshit like "A great blow has been struck in the console war!" I didn't feel bad for Microsoft or Xbox 360 owners when I played Uncharted 2, though. I felt bad for Eidos. They've been trying to breath life back into Tomb Raider for years and along comes Uncharted 2, a similarly-themed game that trumps Lara Croft in every way. UC2 features many elements from other recent action games but Naughty Dog has pulled these various old ideas together to create something new and great.
Indiana Jones can hang up his hat. Lara Croft can wrangle her ample bosom into a sports bra. Drake has it covered.
Whether it’s the breathtaking graphics, killer story line, or intense and strategic action, Nathan Drake’s latest adventure is an absolute gem.
After spending a lot of quality time with Uncharted 2 in single player and multiplayer I can say one thing, how on earth does Naughty Dog plan to top this game if they plan on making a Drake’s 3?
I have never felt compelled to progress through a game just to see what happens next, but with Uncharted 2 I just can’t help myself. I feel the game is so immersive that I am Nathan Drake. Every element has been finely crafted, from sound to graphics to cut-scenes to gameplay. All of this thrusts the player in to a tumultuous thrill ride that has no bounds.
Naughty Dog have outshone all competition, making the Gears/Tomb Raider mash-up a genre of their very own. Uncharted 2 is one of, if not the definitive action title of this year.
No, it's Uncharted 2's filmic qualities that I think qualify it as the best PS3 game to date. The perfect game for a system desperately trying to define itself as the full multimedia experience. A one stop place for film, games and media. And Uncharted 2 is its one stop game.
G4 TV: X-Play
Uncharted 2 delivers on what so many other games just promise: Immersion. Lost not just in a world but in a collective fantasy of the impossible made viable. That 8-year-old me in the movie theater sat yearning for the adult world to be as filled with adventure, discovery and importance as what I saw on screen. Well-situated in my 30s, content with good health and a paycheck, I pine nostalgically for when life still held that pre-adolescent potential. For the hours I played Uncharted 2, those two selves were bridged in a wonderful equanimity, a digital compromise.
Game Informer Magazine
Uncharted 2 is a ringing testament to the power of both games and storytelling. It pulls you in, keeps you engaged, and concludes with a thunderous bang.
Uncharted 2 is a magnificent example of how this generation can infuse movie production quality with enjoyable gameplay and maintain a sense of fluidity throughout the feature presentation. The sheer craft on display throughout every single moment deserves every accolade it receives; truly Naughty Dog has delivered a generation-defining experience that is worthy of buying/borrowing/stealing a PS3.
Uncharted 2 is just as good, if not better, than most Hollywood action movies. With fantastic production values, a cleverly written script, great voice-over work and refined gameplay, Uncharted 2 is the second best thing that could have happened to the PS3 going into the holiday shopping season. With Kratos riding the pine until 2010, Nathan Drake steps up to the plate and delivers a homerun for Sony.
Computer and Video Games (CVG)
It may not have the heritage of pre-PS3 franchises like Metal Gear or Gran Turismo, and Nathan Drake may not be your typical hero with a croaky voice, eye patch, superpowers or pointy blue ears. But in our books he is the exclusive defining star of PS3.
For over a dozen pulsating hours, Nathan Drake is among thieves, just as Naughty Dog was when it made the first game by ransacking surrounding genres. By the end of Uncharted 2 though, Drake has found his place in the world, and so has the developer - among giants.
Uncharted 2 is simply a vast improvement over its predecessor, and it's a damn great PS3 game. Let's leave the "are games art?" question for another time; what Uncharted 2 proves is that games are, at the very least, craft. Just as Raiders is Spielberg at the top of his game, Uncharted 2 is Naughty Dog at the top of theirs, and further proof that they are masters of their craft.
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves may have been one of the most anticipated games of 2009, but after playing it through I can honestly say that the hype was not unfounded. The words “cinematic experience” have been used to describe the game so often that they are probably cliché by now, but it’s something that simply must be said. I found myself saying “just one more chapter” for hours; I never wanted to stop playing, and I never wanted the game to end. The few flaws that I did find were easy to overlook in the grander scheme of things. Once again, Naughty Dog has raised the bar for gaming standards, and produced a gem that should be in every gamer’s library.
Uncharted 2 is the new standard of how video games will be judged. If other titles haven't lured you into buying a PS3, this is the perfect opportunity to find out what you have been missing.
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is everything you could ask for in a videogame: immensely satisfying and challenging gameplay, a great story with likeable characters, a stunning audio-visual experience, plenty of replayability, and by the time the game ends, the feeling that every dollar spent on buying the game was well worth it.
Naughty Dog set out with a very specific goal in mind, and in focusing intently on that goal, they blew right past it. Uncharted 2 is a sublime example of how to make a great action game, the result of fantastic execution on every aspect of the game's design and development. It's the best, most memorable game I've played in a long, long time.
OMGN: Online Multiplayer Games Network
It's almost a shame that such rabid fanboy-ism has sprung up between fans of the PS3 and the 360, because Microsoft loyalists are missing out on a game that has truly pushed the bar to an incredible height in every respect. I don't say that out of malice in any form, but more in the spirit of encouraging gaming unity across platforms. Games as good as Uncharted 2 are rare, and need to be supported so that games can be seen as a viable entertainment venue in everybody's eyes, not just a certain subset of consumers. Uncharted 2 is a well-deserved triumph that truly blurs the boundaries between interactive and non-interactive cinema, and should be experienced by as many as possible. Go find a copy.
Uncharted 2 is simply one of the best games I've played yet on the PlayStation 3. It has not only a fun and engaging single player mode but also a robust multiplayer mode that can keep you busy long after you've played the game. The production values are through the roof, and everything just seems to come together to make a cinematic experience that rivals no other. It's a stellar example of a third-person action title, or just action games in general, and if you've got a PS3, you owe it to yourself to experience what Drake has to offer.
Game Freaks 365
If I had only one game that I could buy in 2009, it would have to be Uncharted 2. It combines a stunning single-player experience with multi-player modes that will keep you coming back into next year. The graphics put games on other platforms to shame, the voice actors are as superb as they were in the first Uncharted and the gameplay is a constant challenge. I will admit that I was skeptical of the need for multi-player, but I have to say that it completed the package for me.
Uncharted 2: Amongst Thieves is without a doubt the most stunning game yet to grace any console. It has surpassed any game in terms of presentation and storytelling and has hopefully set a new standard in this area for others to follow.
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is a flawless experience on the PS3 that we really cannot fault and is what modern gaming is all about. Rather than reinvent the wheel, it gives the gamer a classical gaming experience with a 21st century feel and play. Sure there are a few frustrating moments in the game but in what game isn't?
Around ever corner, Uncharted 2 seems to top itself in an uncanny fashion making this one of the must-have gaming experiences of 2009. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is one of the most cohesive and memorable action adventure games ever made, and what Naughty Dog has accomplished won’t be duplicated anytime soon. All those who own a Playstation 3, I urge you to pick up this game, you won't be disappointed.
f you've been waiting for a reason to buy a PS3, this is it. If you've been hanging out to rub something in your Xbox 360 fanboy friend's face, this is it. Uncharted 2 is one of the best game experiences imaginable and the fun doesn't end as you can take it online or play through it again when you're done. No wonder all the big Christmas releases got pushed back to next year - they didn't want to go up against Drake - and who can blame them? The game of the year race probably just got won.
Uncharted 2 represents everything I've always wanted to see out of an action-adventure game such as this. It defines what videogames mean to me. It's designed in such a way that is completely the opposite of what most games in the genre have been doing, and yet, by taking a step back to a more traditional setup, it is without question the best game the genre has seen in a very long time. It is also without question the best looking console game I've ever seen, easily the best of the generation. And, it is also without question the very best game we've seen all year.
Cheat Code Central
Without a doubt, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is a solid candidate for game of the year. It does everything well, and some things it does without equal. It is so finely developed and produced that it will likely be looked at in the future as a seminal entry in video gaming. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is a game that transcends the conventions of the medium, lending even more clout to an already robust industry, closely nipping at the heels of filmmaking, ushering in the era of interactive cinema.
GamingHeaven / DriverHeaven
Naughty Dog deserve a massive amount of praise for making the follow up to one of the best Playstation 3 games ever, even better - with the extra bonus of wicked multiplayer options. We all expected it would be phenomenal and thankfully they haven’t let us down - it is easily in the top 3 Playstation 3 games of all time.
Regardless, Uncharted 2, despite a few nitpicks, is the best reason to own a PS3. In fact, if you've been on the fence about that particular hardware purchase and have been eyeing its slimmer design (and sleeker price tag), this one should be enough to push you over. Chasing fortune and glory has never been so much fun
If, as some have said, the PS3 is still in need of a killer exclusive to take into the festive silly season then Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is, without a doubt, it. Anyone with a PS3 should be beating down the door of their favourite games emporium come release day and the rest of you still waiting for a reason to belatedly join Sony's party have just found it.
The game isn't perfect, but the small issues are obliterated by all the things that are good and do fit well together. I for one have my Game of The Year this year, and if you look at the top games 2009 has had to offer so far, that is a huge compliment.
That Gaming Site
Very few games manage to peak so regularly throughout the entire game and whilst it’s not without its blips, Uncharted 2 peaks so frequently and magnificently that its golden moments are genre defining. An essential title if you own a PS3 and a damn good reason to invest in one if you don’t.
Lens of Truth
A true sequel should surpass its predecessor in every way. Uncharted 2 is a sequel in every sense of the word. Naughty Dog improved on every aspect of the original Uncharted and polished it to perfection. From the opening cinematic sequence to the final shot fired, every sound, texture, and animation flow seamlessly, Naughty Dog really shows how with time (and some of Sony’s money) the PS3 is truly a next gen console.
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is one of the best games this year on the PlayStation 3. It has incredible cinematics and provides a thrill ride in a single-player campaign that doesn't feel too short or too long. The deep and incredibly fun multiplayer features everything that makes the single-player segment so great: amazing visuals, near-perfect audio and a sharp presentation that makes this among the best of the best. It's better than the original Uncharted in every way, and it's easily one of my contenders for Game of the Year 2009.
In short, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves comes highly recommended and is something that a hardcore or casual gamer could enjoy on many levels. Engaging combat, swift puzzles, and glorious platforming are all available to be enjoyed. Telling the tale of our great treasure hunter, Drake, could not have been done better.
Simplement anthologique.
Uncharted 2 is absolutely worth your time - it's almost worth picking up a PlayStation 3 for. If you are on the edge of getting the console after the price drop, Among Thieves could easily be the little extra you need. If you're already a PS3 owner, it's a no-brainer.
If you own a PlayStation 3, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves belongs in your collection, no questions asked. If you don't, know this -- there's no other game in its genre that even comes close to it on any other platform. Whether or not that makes Among Thieves the system-seller Sony's been looking for remains to be seen, but it's without a doubt among the best exclusive games found on any console this generation.
This is a perfect example of an excellent game with a few nagging faults. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is incredible, perhaps the best cinematic experience we’ve seen. It’s a must have for all PS3 owners, even if it's just for the single player. Multiplayer is even more fantastic, producing incredibly entertaining online battles, with and against friends. If it were not for those few rough edges, Uncharted 2 would be the perfect game.
If you're reading this, it was unlikely that you weren't already going to buy Uncharted 2: Among Thieves on day one. Really, you just wanted to know how good it is, and fortunately I can say that it's very, very good. It's easily one of the best games on the system, blending fantastic presentation and visuals with gameplay that is practically second to none. And then there's the stellar multiplayer which you'll probably be playing until Uncharted 3 ships. No, Uncharted 2 is not perfect, but it's closer than pretty much any other game out there these days.
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is a complete package. The perfectly paced campaign is pure joy from beginning to end, seamlessly combining top-notch shooting, smooth platforming, clever puzzles, and a playful story into one of the most engaging and satisfying adventures around.
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is almost out here in NZ and when it arrives you should know it is one of the best titles to ever come out on the PS3. You will laugh, you will scream, and you will sit on the edge of your seat. And most importantly, you will have a blast all the way through to the end credits.
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is a must buy for the single player alone, much less the new addition of multiplayer mdoes. It is not very often that a game comes along where you cannot put down the controller until the credits roll. A title that shows polish in every aspect of its design is a rare gem. Sure I can be picky with a few missing visual details or repetitive enemies, but none detract from how good, and how fun this game is. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is probably the best game I have played in 2009, and Hollywood could take a lesson from what the team at Naughty Dog have created.
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is one of the most polished games we've ever played. At every corner there's something new to marvel at. Whether it's the sharp writing, twisting story, frenetic pacing, or tight (albeit derivative) gameplay, this is one of those games that a lot of people will play in one sitting.
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is a fantastic game, and every PS3 owner should experience it. But if and when we see an Uncharted 3, there is still room to improve on Naughty Dog's fantastic formula.
There's no denying this is the year's best PS3 game, and it will be a while before it's topped in my opinion. But thankfully, the way in which Naughty Dog have crafted their characters and stories here, I doubt this will be the last we see of Nathan Drake and comrades. Plus, by my count, there's still plenty of treasure out there to be found, and with Indiana Jones clearly raped in the eyes of fans by his creators, we can only look to the future of treasure hunters in Nathan Drake.
GNT - Generation Nouvelles Technologies
In the end, it is this ridiculous attention to detail that elevates Uncharted 2: Among Thieves from a great game to a true masterpiece. The game sets a new bar for not only technological achievement and game design, but writing and characterization as well, something I hope other developers are inspired to emulate. Among Thieves is far and away the best game that I have played this year, and one I will likely come back to time and again.
Action games don’t come much better than Uncharted 2. From its polish and presentation, through the excellent and thoroughly successful multi-player modes and the whole damn like-ability of it, there’s not a great deal here that won’t resonate with gamers of all levels. Nathan Drake takes pride of place as one of the best new characters in gaming and star of the best PS3 franchise, and it would be foolish to miss out on this extraordinary and exemplary title.
Ultimately, no one will disagree that Uncharted 2 is one hell of a ride, and the best PS3 action game to date.
It’s unfortunate that the gameplay doesn’t scale the heights of the production values, for while the gunplay is solid its relentlessness becomes weary towards the finale. But any misgivings aren’t enough to derail the immensely enjoyable rollercoaster ride and Uncharted 2’s wealth of character easily overcomes our gripes. As a spectacle it’s without compare, its epic vistas and rip-roaring set pieces combining with writing and pacing of a quality that’s alien to most videogames, helping to create one of this generation’s most charming adventures.
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves successfully blends the very best of Hollywood style action with videogame thrills and the result is one of 2009's finest games.
Well, it seems as though developer Naughty Dog had very similar feelings; the sequel, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, is a superior game in practically every way. This is the very definition of a triple-A must own title.
Minor complaints aside, Uncharted 2 is the single best PS3-exclusive title to date. I love the voice acting and characters, and I can honestly say that the multiplayer is something I see myself returning to again and again. If you bought a PS3 because you wanted to play games that you couldn't play anywhere else, then your time has arrived -- go forth and buy Uncharted 2.
For the most part, Uncharted 2 does not reinvent the action-adventure wheel, but from a graphic standpoint, and from a pure fun stand, this game soars on the PS3. This is a lot of fun.
When you play a game that stops non-gaming members in the family dead in their tracks to watch and enjoy the way the game is playing out, that says a lot. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves did precisely that.
Absolute Games (AG.ru)
Among Thieves steals from many other games, but is terrified of deviating from the next-gen norm. A shiny but forgettable game.
Gaming since 198x
