Atari 2600The Video Game Critic
The game is seriously challenging and undeniably fun. I really couldn't put it down once I started playing it. The background music is annoying, but at least it's faithful to the original game. When all is said and done, I like Up 'N Down. If you can stomach the graphics you're in for a good time.

Complicating matters are inclines which require momentum to climb, and descents which speed you up. Later stages even have bridges that look surprisingly good. Obtaining all the flags isn't difficult because the roads loop, so when you pass a flag you know where to position your car on the next lap. Up 'N Down is a tough game that requires skill. If you can find a copy, it's a nice addition to your collection.

Atari 2600Digital Press - Classic Video Games
Despite these things, Up 'N Down plays pretty well. I found that I would incorporate these bugs into my strategy for higher scores, and although these are unlike the arcade strategies, the 2600 version holds its own. The graphics, while crude, do offer some variety: you will see cross overs, bridges, ramps, trees (or are they mushrooms?), and water. The other vehicles are rather blocky but come in a few different colors and two different shapes. Not too shabby. The music is pretty repetitive but not as bad as on others I've played.
