Urban Chaos

Overall this is a great game. I know I had a blast playing it. So if you haven't already, pick this game up at your local video game store.

Urban Chaos is pure, unadulterated fun. You can play a mission in 15 minutes or less, or spend an hour in the same level and still not see all the detail the map has to offer. This type of gameplay builds upon the player's feelings of accomplishment, and feeds directly into whatever he or she wants from the experience. The story and action will have you wanting to continue, and its main component, the multi-faceted combat, is never boring. It's packed full of content that will take even the most dedicated crime fighter more than a month to uncover. There are only a handful of games that are this good; don't pass this one up.

Urban Chaos är ett mycket underhållande, actionladdat spel som på ett trevligt sätt har lånat de bästa inslagen från - Tomb Raider, GTA, Resident Evil - och ändå känns originellt. Det är stämmningsfullt, spelbart, snyggt och framförallt kul.

What makes Urban Chaos so damn fun is the way that it provides you with all the size and mass of todays biggest adventures, without any of the bad pacing. You'll come back to earlier areas with new missions, and then suddenly have the opportunity to explore a completely new level only a few minutes later. D'arci moves really fast, and you'll rarely, if ever, become involved in the block-pushing puzzles, perfect jumps, or switch madness that currently dog most third-person games. I couldn't get myself to stop playing Urban Chaos, and found it to be one of the fastest and most fun games of the year -- even though I wished that the actual fighting system had a deeper level of complexity. But forget about nitpicking -- you'll find yourself playing this one into the night, waiting to see what the next mission will bring you. Plus, you may actually be able to use this as a sort of police-prep course.

Разнообразные миссии, возможность использовать технику, отличная и очень атмосферная графика, приличное звуковое оформление, здорово проработанные движения персонажей (motion capture во всей своей красе), качественно исполненный мордобой и, конечно же, оригинальность. Есть, само собой, несколько недостатков (например, маленький глюк с Луной, загораживающей здания, или необходимость долго искать какую-нибудь лестницу, дабы наконец забраться на соседнее здание, на котором спрятался искомый бандит), но это очень мало влияет на общее (очень хорошее) впечатление от игры. По крайней мере, один раз ее стоит пройти всем поклонникам жанра.

Mucky Foot Productions is the brainchild of a good chunk of ex-Bullfrog workers. Their first title is a break from what might be developed at Bullfrog: an action adventure title involving a whole lot of gunfire and fist-to-fist combat. What title would this happen to be? Urban Chaos, an excellent first endeavor for the company, that's what.

If Grand Theft Auto made you pull the hairs out of your head then prepare for another hair-cut. Urban Chaos is sooo frustrating on the control side of things, but the style of gameplay will be a massive hit with many of you. It covers many genres. It is a beat-em-up, shoot-em-up, platform, action, adventure... Jack of all trades... Master of none? Possibly. This may not be the best game on Playstation, but because of it's nature and content it could easily become one of the biggest.

Mucky Foot Productions' Urban Chaos is an attempt to meld a side-scrolling arcade beat-'em-up such as Double Dragon or Final Fight with a modern third-person action game. All the standard ingredients are intact: a trek across a metropolitan dystopia, baseball bats, evil gang members, scantily clad karate prostitutes, punching, and lifebars. Unfortunately, perhaps in a misguided attempt to make Urban Chaos more realistic, the developers have replaced retro-gaming's universal health power-up, the big-boned hunk of meat, with a generic medical kit. But Mucky Foot can be forgiven for this oversight, because it's one of the game's only significant missteps. Urban Chaos is a great looking and ingenious reinvention of a classic genre.

When all is said and done and the pros and cons have been thrown in the mixer together, Urban Chaos is a brilliant game to play. Sure, the graphics could have been better, but the depth and entertainment combined with the freedom you have to do as you please are awe-inspiring. There are hours of play to be had with the different CPU-controlled aids and some dodgy scenes to look out for - for example, there is a very suspicious-looking scene where two officers are standing over a half-naked body of a dead girl - and they look very nervous indeed. The overall verdict? An engrossing title that will give hours of pleasure to all types of gamers.

Om det hade varit lite bättre utfört så kunde Urban Chaos blivit en riktig PlayStationklassiker. Bortsett från problemen så är det ett av de mest spelbara erbjudandena den här månaden.

Urban Chaos is tough but fair, robust, and more than a little rough around the edges. Even if you don't advance the game's story, roaming the mean streets of Union City is a safe and amusing way to vicariously live out the "Thug Life".

As an arcade Adventure/beat 'em up/shoot 'em up/driving game combo, Urban Chaos is hard to fault. The controls are sometimes messy - you often need to hammer the keys several times to get them to respond when controlling a car, and D'arci occasionally seems to have a mind of her own. Also, you can't really get out of a fight once you're in it, which is a shame when your health starts getting dangerously low. Still, neither of these problems really detracts from what is, essentially, a goodly slice of gaming fun.

Urban Chaos is een spel dat je zeker in de gaten moet houden want het belooft een waar schiet- en beuk festijn te worden. Een absolute must-have voor iedereen die graag met wapens loopt te zwaaien.

L'adaptation de Mucky Foot tient sincèrement bien la route. Bien sûr, la foultitude de petits détails croustillants disparaît et la finesse est nettement réduite mais l'aspect général est tout de même bien joli. Grâce à du bon travail d'optimisation, le brouillard cachant l'horizon a été repoussé à l'extrême limite de la machine et aucune gêne n'est présente lors des déplacements. Peu de ralentissements, un clipping tout à fait honorable et assez d'effets lumineux et de petits détails (les feuilles qui volettent partout son toujours là :) pour donner un rendu très correct.

Urban Choas is a game screaming to become a comic book. The graphics are excellent and the storyline will have you wanting to turn to the last page just to see who, or what, is responsible. Muckey Foot has definitely brought the fun back to vigilante justice.

Un bon jeu qui auraient mérité plus d'attention dans les commandes. Pour une fois, il aurait mieux valu copier sur un Tomb Raider pour certains mouvements. Urban chaos reste tout de même un jeu à fortes doses d'adrénaline où les bastons sont légions et l'action débordante.

After all that I had heard about the game, I had high hopes that this title would be a nice change from the usual style of action games. I popped in the CD to find that yes, it is a unique game, but not quite what I expected. All the cops (except Darci of course) seem to have a thuggish appearance and either a New York or Italian accent. The compilation of the cartoony characters and the interesting layouts of the world made playing Urban Chaos feel more like playing in a comic book. I was both a little surprised and pleased with the design of the game.

De politiemacht van Union City doet zeker aan positieve discriminatie en dat geeft je de kans in de huid te kruipen van de zwarte, vrouwelijke politieagente D'arcy Stern.

Darci, laß mich dein Freund und Helfer sein: Der jungen Polizistin in Urban Chaos greife ich beim Kampf für das Gute doch gerne unter die Arme. Abgesehen von der schmucken Grafik gefallen mir hier vor allem die geschickt aufgebauten Einsätze: Ich weiß stets, was ich zu tun habe. Aber wenn ich will, kann ich die Stadt auch auf eigene Faust erkunden und finde immer wieder originelle Mini-Missionen. Mindestens ebenso spannend sind die Prügeleien. Das Kampfsystem ist zwar einfachst gestrickt, aber ab zwei Gegnern ist neben viel Geschick auch ein wenig Taktik gefragt.

Though they have tried to add some twists to it like being able to control a gangster and some other mystery man who fits into the…erm…"plot". I loathe calling it a plot, basically it’s just some silly excuse to beat lots of people up and lousily carried out through some really horribly done conversations. But all that is not at stake here, this game is here so you can run around and beat people up. After all, it is just *fun*. There’s nothing really special about the title, but if your looking to spend a while on a nice fun action game that will keep you busy for a bit, then this is for you.

Une adaptation sans concession mais bien trop fidèle pour que les développeurs se soient souciés des capacités spécifiques de la Dreamcast. Les défauts subsistent hélas. Urban Chaos reste pourtant un jeu original et bourré d'action.

Urban Chaos leidet an den klassischen 3D-Spiel-Krankheiten Die Kamera folgt dem Character nur träge und verdeckt ihn stellenweise. Auch die Präzision der Steuerung lässt zu wünschen übrig und sorgt dafür, dass sich Fahrzeuge wie eine Planierraupe im freien Fall lenken. Zu Fuß, ausgerüstet mit einer der gefälligen Waffen, lassen sich die wirklich sehr originellen Einsätze aber trotzdem genießen.

Het is zeker niet slecht, maar het had toch heel wat spectaculairder gekund, en dat geldt eigenlijk voor het hele paket. UC had een topper kunnen zijn, maar wegens zijn foutjes blijft het wat achter...

Urban Chaos is zonder meer een goed spel voor de PlayStation maar doet het wat minder op de PC. Het spel zier er ietsje beter uit maar de gameplay en multiplayer-optie stellen teleur.

At the end of a day of rough-and-tumble police work, D'arci Stern is still just a well meaning rookie. Urban Chaos has a couple fun new gaming elements and fairly cool graphics, but it's still basically your standard Eidos fare. At least it turns out that being a cop is moderately more arresting that I first thought.

Rund um den Jahrtausendwechsel scheint der Bedarf an Weltuntergangsgeschichten nochmals sprunghaft anzusteigen. Mit Urban Chaos schlägt nun auch Eidos in die allseits beliebte Armageddon-Kerbe - mit einer Äußerst mittelprächtigen Mischung aus Tomb Raider und dem Rennspiel Driver. In der amerikanischen Metropole Union City herrscht das Chaos. Obwohl die düstere Großstadt schon in den letzten Jahren sicherlich kein Ort der Liebe und des Friedens war, steigt die Rate der Gewaltverbrechen kurz vor dem Wechsel ins neue Jahrtausend plötzlich sprunghaft an; besonders die Elendsviertel gleichen einem Pulverfass.

Si l'on cherche un bon jeu d'arcade bien réalisé et doté d'un excellent gameplay, Urban Chaos peut s'avérer un bon choix. La ville et ses habitants constituent un environnement agréable et les intrigues secondaires facultatives ajoutent des rebondissements à un scénario pourtant linéaire. Cependant, le pur fan de Tomb Raider n'aura que très peu d'énigmes à résoudre et le mordu d'aventures touchera rapidement les limites du script. Bref, Urban Chaos est un jeu plaisant qui mérite le détour sans se faire trop d'illusions quant à sa durée de vie.

Urban Chaos gehört genau zu der Sorte von Spielen, die das Dreamcast im Kampf gegen die PS2 nicht braucht. Solch lieblose 32-Bit- beziehungsweise PC-Umsetzungen haben in der Riege hochkarätiger Sega-Titel nix verloren. Alleine schon die hakelige Steuerung lässt einen oft vor Wut ins Joypad beißen. Dazu kommen Aussetzer bei der Sprachausgabe, eine lachhafte Sichtweite bei den Driving-Sequenzen, längere Ladezeiten als bei der PS-Version und, und, und. Um es kurz zu machen: Forget this one!

Unfortunately the clips of voice dialogue, which often border on silly, don't sound as clean as they should be. You can actually hear annoying "tick" sounds between the sound bites. Urban Chaos still manages to be mildly entertaining despite its shortcomings. If you can get a handle on the control scheme, you may find its dark world a worthwhile place to visit.

Eidos has some decent games under their belt, but you have to wonder why they would taint their reputation with a game like this. Everything about this game is just WRONG. Suddenly, Eidos looks more like Acclaim back in their 16-bit days. Can you imagine working for the marketing department and trying to make this game look appealing to a consumer?

The PC version of Urban Chaos really had a lot going for it, and at its core, it was already a very console-style game. However, Eidos simply chose the wrong console, as the PlayStation version of Urban Chaos is ugly and almost completely unplayable. If you've got a PC capable of playing the original version, check it out, and try to forget that the PlayStation version even exists.

"When Bad Games Attack!" It's one of the worse shows you'll see on Dreamcast.
