Description

An evil vampire (er, vampyre?) and his nefarious minions plague a forested land; the task is set before the player to do something about it, most likely with the assistance of a sword (and, eventually, perhaps a stake and mallet?)

This text adventure, a nominal sequel to 1986's Vampyre Hunter, could well have stepped right out of a time capsule from those 20 years hence (and into your C64 emulator), eschewing any nuance or sophistication since distilled into the genre: if VERB NOUN won't do it, it doesn't need to be done. The trickiest business here is internal managing of health status and armor levels for survival of full-bore do-or-die attacks against wolves and other such bestial gothic menaces.

Trivia

This game was entered into the 13th annual rec.arts.interactive-fiction short text adventure competition, but violated Author's Rule #4: All entries must be previously unreleased at the opening of voting, having been previously announced for download on April 1st of that year, some five months prior to the compo going live. Which sharp-eyed text adventure nerd over on Usenet caught this technicality? None; the duplicity was unearthed by your very own MobyGames approver Kabushi following my submission of the game, inadvertently disqualifying Paul Panks' game from competition. Turns out that the thoroughness for which we are known and feared can actually have ramifications! Tremble at the full consequences of our rigorous video game scholarship!
