They will be forced to overcome obnoxiously difficult scenarios that will test their true skills as virtual spies. Most importantly, they will have the joy of executing enemy soldiers with unwavering brutality. If that sounds like your kind of entertainment, don’t hesitate to become this assassin.

The desolate atmosphere and empathetic look at your enemies make Velvet Assassin a powerful war game. It's bleak and grim, making the horrors of war come to life in disturbing fashion. The lousy gunplay and moronic AI dilute some of the intense realism on display here, but the game is able to stand out despite these problems. Creeping slowly through the shadows is tense and believable, and pulling off these seemingly impossible objectives is deeply satisfying. Velvet Assassin offers a brutal depiction of war, creating an experience that is horrific but still rewarding.

Υπάρχουν μερικά ψεγάδια σχεδόν σε όλους τους τομείς, τα οποία όμως δεν ζημιώνουν πολύ την εικόνα του. Ναι, η Violette ενώ μπορεί να σκαρφαλώνει φράχτες, δεν μπορεί να κάνει άλματα κατά βούληση. Ναι, το μοντέλο της ηρωίδας θα μπορούσε να είναι καλύτερο. Και ναι, ίσως ξενίσει μερικούς το ότι δεν μπορείτε να σώσετε όποτε θέλετε. Παρόλα αυτά, κανένα από αυτά δεν είναι “game breaker”.

Auf den ersten Blick wirkt Velvet Assassin wie ein schlechter Splinter Cell-Klon. Wenige Gadgets, lineare Levels und KI-Aussetzer sind nicht gerade, was man von einem Schleichspiel heutzutage erwartet. Lasst ihr euch dennoch auf Violett Summer ein, werdet ihr trotz veralteter Technik mit atemberaubenden Ansichten und einer fantastischen Atmosphäre belohnt.

Hätte mich die einzigartige Atmosphäre von Velvet Assassin nicht so in den Bann gezogen, wäre der Stealth-Shooter spätestens nach der zweiten Mission im Schrank verschwunden. Die Optik und der Sound sind mittelprächtig, das Gameplay teils gleich teils schlechter als bei anderen Vergleichstiteln und die Gegner K.I. ist nicht selten so clever wie ein fauliges Stück Brot aus einem Ein-Euro-Dönerladen. Dennoch haben wir Ms. Summer bis zum bitteren Ende begleitet, da die Hamburger Jungs aus dem eigentlich ausgelutschten Weltkriegszenario, eine Spieltiefe an den Tag gelegt haben, die selbst Kriegsspielfans bisher kaum gesehen haben. Velvet Assassin ist vor allem für Spieler, welche sich im Stealthgenre wohl fühlen und gerne mit Geduld und Schmackes einen Widersacher nachdem anderen ausschalten.

Velvet Assassin is likely a niche game that won't be fully appreciated by all comers. That being said, there is a compelling story and a lot of fun gameplay to be found. Players interested in the title should make sure they have a good deal of patience and familiarity with the stealth genre. If you're looking for some run-and-gun action, or even a nice mix of the two, you'll likely be disappointed. Moreover, Velvet Assassin only offers a single-player campaign. There are no competitive multiplayer or cooperative modes, so other than challenging the highest difficulty setting, picking up all the collectibles, and scoring a higher mission rating, there's not a whole lot of replay value. Armed with that knowledge, if you still fancy a go, you'll quickly get hooked.

La storia “stealth” di Violette Summer, ispirata alle gesta di un carismatico personaggio realmente esistito, non si rivela troppo convincente né sul piano tecnico né sul versante del gameplay, nonostante qualche buona idea sviluppata con diversi gradi di successo. You shouldn’t feel bad if Violette and her stealthy World War II title caught your eye. Those screens sure look cool. The concept of a female secret agent taking out Nazis has some promise. Plus, she’s got that sexy spy thing going for her, right? First looks can be deceiving. Velvet Assassin is a mess from beginning to end, filled with frustrating objectives, archaic gameplay conventions, and a story that is, well, not a story at all.

Velvet Assassin could have been an interesting take on World War II by highlighting a facet of the conflict that's rarely covered by gaming. While it does bring in the secret agent angle, it also brings in a story that's completely thin and unsupported. Even worse, Assassin features flawed stealth action elements that can ruin the gameplay when they go awry, and only point out the hit or miss nature of the mechanics when they work well. If you need a stealth action experience, you'll probably want to look elsewhere.

Velvet Assassin could have been so much better if the game had more concentration on it. It does try something new with the stealth story aspect. World War II is always seen in first person shooters so it was nice to see that developers can do something new. Still even with that said I really found it better when the game was not in my Xbox 360. Velvet Assassin looks much better in my collection but even that looks bad too.

Velvet Assassin is an excruciatingly painful, unappealing mess of a game, and its number of redeeming qualities can be counted on the stump of a leper's former arm: it ends.
