Die Welt mit anderen Augen sehen. Vietcong 2 macht diesen Traum wahr, denn hier legen Sie in einer separaten Kampagne Charlies Uniform an. Hinter jedem Busch lauert Gefahr. Unter jedem Stein könnte eine Granate verborgen sein. Ein Schritt zu weit, und Sie stürzen in eine Pfahlgrube. Willkommen im Dschungel! Willkommen bei Vietcong! Erinnern Sie sich an diese Zeilen? Die waren der Auftakt unseres Vietcong-Tests, den wir Ihnen vor zweieinhalb Jahren in der PC-Games-Ausgabe 5/2003 präsentierten.

Der Vorgänger machte Actionliebhaber zu Tunnelratten und Dschungelschlangen, das Sequel fordert auch Straßenköter. Im zweiten Teil des Vietnam-Shooters geht's wieder tierisch ab, bei Häuserkämpfen und im Urwald. Diesmal endlich auch auf Seiten des Vietcong.

Ich fühle mich in die Vergangenheit zurückversetzt. Aber nicht unbedingt ins Jahr 1968, sondern eher nach 2002 – damals sahen manche Ego-Shooter nämlich schon so aus wie Vietcong 2 heute. Die teils sehr schönen Texturen stehen im krassen Gegensatz zu den kantigen Objekten, die sie bedecken. Die wenigen Dschungel-Levels hätte sich Pterodon lieber gespart: Fünf klobige Bäume auf einer grünen Fläche sind in Zeiten von Far Cry einfach kein Urwald mehr. Das schlägt so stark auf die Stimmung, dass sich die tolle Atmosphäre des ersten Teils diesmal einfach nicht durchsetzt.

Vietcong 2 is een prima opvolger, maar loopt puffend en hijgend achter de huidige generatie topshooters aan.

Ist Vietcong 2 jetzt richtig gut oder nur Mittelmaß? Ich habe lange mit mir gerungen, welche Wertung dieser Ego-Taktik-Shooter erhalten soll. Pauschal lässt sich das Spiel schlecht empfehlen, davor abzuraten wäre aber ein noch größerer Fehler. Die Graphik ist zwar stellenweise wirklich mies, dafür ist das Gameplay des Titels hervorragend. Effekte halten sich zwar in Grenzen, dafür macht der Sound Lust auf mehr. Trotz der Mängel sind die Hardware-Anforderung gnadenlos überhöht, ein weiterer Minuspunkt. Wer also einen Shooter mit High-End-Optik sucht, der soll sich das Geld lieber sparen oder in F.E.A.R. investieren. Wer Bock auf einen richtigen guten Vietnam-Shooter hat, dabei viel Wert aufs Gameplay und wenig auf die graphische Präsentation legt, der sollte unbedingt einen Blick auf Vietcong 2 werfen. Und natürlich, wer sich jüngst einen Rechner der neuesten Generation zugelegt hat... 'Anspruchsvolle Vietnam-Taktik mit Kümmer-Optik'

Vietcong 2 brengt niet veel nieuws ten opzichte van zijn voorganger, maar dat zal de liefhebbers van dat game worst wezen. De onderdompeling en de verslavende (maar standaard) multiplayerervaring is er nog steeds, maar de technische tekortkomingen storen ons deze keer toch iets meer dan voorheen.

Si l'ambiance plus urbaine annoncée avait de quoi faire douter les férus du premier épisode, Vietcong 2 parvient malgré tout à captiver à nouveau le joueur avide de sensations fortes dans un cadre un tant soit peu réaliste. Les lacunes de la série sont malheureusement encore présentes avec une optimisation quasi absente et des bugs ici et là parfois bien gênants, mais paradoxalement, la finition peut être considérée comme correcte pour un titre de sa catégorie, souvent victime de ce genre de mauvaises surprises (Vietcong, Hidden & Dangerous et Opération Flashpoint).

Ultimately, Vietcong 2 is a game that doesn't improve too much on its predecessor. And while it's a fairly challenging game in some respects, it's also one that suffers from numerous flaws. There are flashes of goodness in Vietcong 2, but it would have been nice to have seen the noncombat portions of the game extended throughout the story to give you a sense of what Vietnam was like between the firefights. Still, those firefights can be challenging and immersive, even when you do get bogged down by technical issues.

After what appeared to be a glut of World War II shooters, several developers tried their hand at Vietnam, with mixed results. Pterodon, working with Illusion Softworks, took a more authentic approach to jungle warfare -- a place where ambushes were constant, the enemy difficult to pick out much of time, and death waiting around every corner. Unfortunately, the final product had some performance issues, despite not having cutting-edge visuals.

Old-school tactical action fans may enjoy the extreme difficulty and high excitement level, although most players won’t be able to get past the technical deficiencies and been-there-done-that gameplay. If you need a wartime shooter, the Call of Duty and Medal of Honor series are better options.

Pierwsza część tego FPS-a, która powstała ponad dwa lata temu, po prostu wbiła mnie w fotel. Dla wielu może to być dziwne, ponieważ tytuł nie oferował żadnych wielkich fajerwerków, a na dodatek był okraszony sporą liczbą bugów, jednak naprawdę udało mi się wczuć w wietnamski klimat i długo nie zapomnę godzin spędzonych w zdradliwej puszczy.(...)Historia przedstawiona w następcy obejmuje dużo mniejszy wycinek czasu niż w poprzedniku i skupia się na (nie)sławnej ofensywie Tet, czyli podstępnym ataku komunistów podczas święta państwowego w 1968 roku – pomimo militarnej klęski ostatecznie prowadzącym do wycofania z Wietnamu sił amerykańskich. W grze mamy możliwość spojrzenia na to przełomowe wydarzenie z dwóch perspektyw – amerykańskiego oficera oraz żołnierza tytułowego Vietcongu.

"Vietcong 2" pode ser uma experiência bacana para os mais chegados aos games com temática da Guerra do Vietnã, mas, sinceramente, se você não está "seco" por um destes, deixe passar desta vez. Ou então tenha em mente que enfrentará os problemas já relacionados acima; aí, prenda a respiração e vá em frente.

Vietcong 2 possède de bonnes idées dans le jeu multi, une bonne ambiance dans le solo, mais se trouve malheureusement complètement dépassé d’un point de vue technique et non innovant au possible. Une réalisation semblant dater de plusieurs années et une finition bâclée (NDA : décidemment !), un moteur graphique plus que lourd, pas de traduction, une notice pleine de coquilles… Des idées multijoueurs pas assez développées et une campagne solo côté Vietcong beaucoup trop courte. Bref, à part les fans du premier opus, on voit difficilement qui investira dans ce titre, à peine au niveau d’un Call of Duty. A patcher et à repatcher, voir à ré-éditer avec une notice digne de ce nom et des sous-titres.

While I may have made Vietcong 2 sound like a bad game, it really isn’t. The developer’s idea was in the right place, and the gameplay isn’t all that horrible. It’s just a little rough and could use some tweaking in some areas. There are some strange performance issues here and there, some scripting problems, and just isn’t that great to look at. With the occasional sluggishness and slow playing of the game and the inability to heal, Vietcong 2 can be really frustrating and annoying to play at times. If you are a gamer who likes and appreciates a good war shooter game, this would be an ok purchase, but there are definitely better ones out there.

Vietcong 2 a une qualité : son côté "réaliste" qui vous condamne à mort à la moindre imprudence. Mais c'est également l'un de ses défauts quand le fait de ne pardonner aucune faute au joueur finit par le frustrer. De plus, avec sa réalisation technique et ses bugs, mais également certaines errances de gameplay, le soft a déjà l'air vieux avant l'âge. A essayer mais en occasion.

All you really get from Vietcong 2 is an FPS that is well behind the times and generally not up to scratch with what you'd expect, and what exposes this further is the brilliant FPS year 2005 has been - any other year maybe the few bright spots of VC2 would have shined through a little more, but with the FPS genre really rising the bar this year, titles of this quality just aren't going to cut it.

Poor Vietcong 2, you would have fared so much better in the quiet months of August. Instead, your publisher chose to release you in the fall, surrounded by the release of mega-shooters like Quake 4, Call of Duty 2, and F.E.A.R, all games that will take up more shelf-space. While they sit in the new release section, with flashy stickers all over their boxes screaming “buy me!” at best you’re sitting on the bottom shelf, tucked away, nearly alone except for a copy of the latest hunting game to keep you company (that will probably outsell you).

This game, had it been released two years ago would've been a lot easier to swallow. However, considering just how much the FPS genre has progressed, specifically the squad-commanding, war-themed FPS sub-genre, it's really not worth your time unless you're particularly fanatical about the original.
