This is a terrific game that deserves a rental and possibly a buy if you’re the type who enjoys watching things blow up. The detailed terrain will keep you occupied looking for secrets and the colorful characters will make you laugh. The only part that could have been improved was to have given a more involved and detailed storyline.

Was I satisfied? In a way yes; in a way, no. The only aspect that really was disappointing is the dropout and the control. But it's car combat baby. It's GREAT!

So in the end, Vigi 8: 2nd Offense is a very fun game, but with a host of little problems. On the other hand, it's still superior to anything from the Twisted Metal series, with better physics and much larger arenas. If you loved the first game, or are looking for some auto combat without Rob Zombie, this one is definitely worth a look, with it's new levels, cars, and power-ups. Plus, it will make you into a better driver. That old lady in the Volvo better get outta my way, I'm on a mission.

Despite its faults, Vigilante 8 is just as fun the second time around. However, while a lot of work has been done under the hood, the game still runs almost exactly the same. Cooperative play, vehicle enhancements, mission-based structure -- none of it improves the game much. And considering that the graphics are only marginally improved this year, there's not a lot to recommend here over the now bargain-bin original. However, the gameplay is more balanced, and the new cars are great.

Not straying too much from their successful Vigilante 8 game, Activision's V8: 2nd Offense enters the arena as a very aggressive vehicular combat sequel. Your mission: total destruction of all that stands in your way. This of course is not limited to just nuking other vehicles…you can destroy buildings, signs, heck you can really redecorate the whole landscape! There are 18 vehicles to choose from (some are hidden and must be unlocked), 12 tracks to lay your smack down on and enough upgrades and weapons to make even the most jaded gamer smile with delight. If you can get past the handling characteristics (and obviously most people can because this style of game has become a big seller) you are bound to have a really fun and enjoyable time here folks…especially in the two-player modes.

Vigilante 8: Second Offense is so close to becoming a must have Dreamcast title. If the game controls had been fine tuned a little more this game would have been so much more enjoyable. Anyone who liked the original title will still find so much to like about this game.

The console cousin to Activision's Interstate 76 line, the Vigilante 8 series, focuses on a group of good people who drive cars tricked out with weapons and fight against a group of bad people who drive cars tricked out with weapons. That's almost all the plot description you need, save for that the setting is the 1970s and the game recycles the only things anyone would ever want to salvage from that era: muscle cars, funk music, Afros, and fat sideburns.

Still, the game has plenty to recommend. It's got the same levels of fun found in the other console versions. In fact, I almost dropped my controller when I first ran into the giant ant in the meteor crater. I haven't seen one of Them in a long time.

What the heck happened here? I really enjoyed the first Vigilante 8 (Playstation), and this edition has some excellent graphics and original battle locations. So why can't I control my freakin' car?!? Neither the digital nor analog controls can prevent you from severely over-steering your vehicle, and that really stinks. And what's up with the collision detection?
