Virtua Fighter Remix

VF Remix establishes the Saturn's ability to make smooth polygon characters, which is something we hadn't really seen until just now.

Ein wahrer Alptraum für notorische Kritiker: man kann Virtua Fighter wieder und immer wieder spielen, es lassen sich einfach keine Schwächen entdecken. Lediglich die hohen Hardware-Anforderungen stoßen ein wenig auf. Wer sich auch nur ansatzweise für Kampfsportspiele begeistern kann, darf sich dieses wegweisende Produkt nicht entgehen lassen. Die sensationelle Grafikqualität und das über alle Zweifel erhabene Gameplay läßt die Konkurrenz vor Neid erblassen und macht Virtua Fighter PC zum besten Prügelspiel für den PC. Weiter so, Sega!

Wow, where did these textures come from!? This version smokes the pack in with almost no painful flickering and high quality texture maps. I still think all the extensive tapping to execute moves is a pin, but it's much easier to put up with now that VFR looks good. Tekken it's not (to me) but if you're a VF fan, heaven awaits!

Even if you're not a huge Virtua Fighter fan, check out the improvements in Virtua Fighter Remix. Sure, the game is less polished than Tekken, but VF Remix more than hold its own with the better fighting games out there.

If you're looking for fireballs, look elsewhere. When you put Virtua Fighter Remix next to Panzer Dragoon (with its reflective water effects) and Guardian Heroes (with its awesome combination of detailed, colorful ageless hand-drawn sprites scaling in and out/back and forth of equally detailed and colorful 3D backdrops), it boggles the mind to think that the Saturn wasn't considered to be a capable console in its early life. It had a lot of potential and a lot of that potential unfortunately went to waste in some Saturn games (see Panzer Dragoon Saga or try searching for some screenshots of Shenmue for the Saturn to see the Saturn at its peak, pushing the console to its limits and beyond).

Virtua Fighter Remix shows what those developers at Sega can do when they're prodded to work a little harder than they might otherwise get away with. What you have here is an intense, sleek and sexy little fighting game that ranks among the best on any console. Saturn owners who thirst for more fighting action on their console should head straight for this 3D beauty.

Virtua Fighter Remix is a 100 percent improvement over the original Virtua Fighter. Fighting fans will want VF Remix, not the pack-in, as their polygon power-puncher of choice. When Virtua Fighter 2 hits the Saturn this holiday season, we'll see how much more Sega's next-generation system is capable of, but it'll be hard to top VF Remix.

Unlike almost any other fighter out today save the Tekken games (the only real competition to this series), Virtua Fighter is a strategy-laden, fluid gaming masterpiece which comes close to being a sort of brutal, interactive artform, and this new PC release of the classic game does nothing to distract from that. Make no doubt about it, Virtua Fighter PC is the best fighting game you can buy for your computer.

An der geschickten Simulation des Kampfgeschehens beeindruckt außerdem das enorme Repertoire an weit über 400 Schlagvarianten von nur acht Kombattanten. Allerdings muß klar gesagt werden, daß das Erlernen der Moves ganz schön an den Kräften zehrt und selbst im Easy-Modus die Gegner hart im Nehmen sind. Geübte Prügler sollten die Herausforderung annehmen, Einsteiger könnten hingegen überfordert sein.

So, to sum up, you won't find any-thing especially innovative or unique about Virtua Fighter PC. Sure, it looks amazing and it's a near-as-dammit perfect conversion of the arcade and Saturn original (and it has new texture maps to boot), but the frame rate is dreadful unless you've got a bloody fast pc. In its favour though, if you don't already have a game of this genre, at only thirty quid it's worth taking a look at this one.

In conclusion, Virtua Fighter is unquestionably the best 3-D fighter published to date on the PC. While not as fast or graphically appealing as the Saturn version, this is as close as a standard PC is likely to come. If you have even a passing interest in 3-D fighters, Virtua Fighter PC is not to be missed.

Not being a big fan of the original Virtua Fighter, I must admit that I was't very excited to get my hands on the remix, but after seeing the excellent graphics that increased tenfold over the first VF, I quickly became a loyal follower. The only negatives I found were the floating jumps and consistent falling (or being pushed) out of the ring. Compare it to mold or whatever you like, the VF Remix will definitely grow on you. It is the best game you can get for it's nonexistent price.

What is Sega to do? They knowingly release a sub par Virtua Figther game for your high priced system, hoping nobody notices. When people do, thanks mostly to the success of Tekken for the competition, you are stuck with no time to finish Virtua Fighter 2, and a game people don't want. WHAT DO YOU DO?
