Voyeur may be the greatest full-motion mystery video game ever! Starring Robert Culp and Grace Zabriskie (Twin Peaks). A must-play for CD-i owners. Contains intense sex and violence and is not for kids. (Doesn't that make you want to play it more?!).

Some players will enjoy the novelty of the sex scenes. Though much of the game is sexy, it deserves an R rating at best. Nothing is ever really shown full on.

If you are keen about video games (which is surely the case!), you must have seen all kinds of them, from adventure games to strategic games or simply those from the arcade. Nevertheless, the principle of this game is, slightly different, and the title "Voyeur" could have one thing that it is something more or less erotic, but even if this is not the case, it remains rather immoral.

Although I thought the replay value of this game would be low, I found myself playing it over and over-trying to frame that mean 'ol Hawke! One item I wasn't too pleased with was a missing "SAVE" feature. You have to play it start to finish (about 30-40 minutes each try). There is a "PAUSE" feature, in case the phone rings. Also, when you move from one place to another, the soundtrack ubruptly stops and changes. It would have been nice if there were more of a segue from one theme to another instead of a cut-off. That soundtrack deserves better! If you enjoy murder-mysteries and don't mind a lot of sexual flirtation, women in skimpy clothing, adult language, and general "fooling around" by the characters, Voyeur is right up your alley.

Robert Culp (wow, a legitimate actor!) does a fine job of portraying Reed Hawke, but some of the supporting cast performances are downright laughable. For a FMV game, Voyeur is not half bad. It's not the kind of game you'd want your wife to walk in on you while playing, but it's certainly entertaining enough.

For a full-motion-video title, Voyeur does what it does rather well, but like most FMV games, it demonstrates that films and video games should remain two separate mediums ... at least for now.

The niftiest aspect of Voyeur — and one that other CD-ROMs immediately picked up on — was its concurrently unfolding narrative: While you were peeping in on an argument in one room, a love scene in another might hold far more crucial information. The disc had the potential to be a truly engaging entertainment — like an Agatha Christie novel with the scenes occurring in real time — yet rudimentary technology hobbled it. Because full-motion video ate up too much disc space in 1994, the makers of Voyeur simply filmed the actors against a blue screen, then superimposed them over computer-generated sets for a flat, proscenium-arch effect that dispelled much of the drama. A fine opening salvo for the new medium, perhaps, but still too encrusted in gimmickry.

Wrapping it up, this one is great fun. An involving story and a great, constantly changing, mystery to boot. The use of adult themes & erotic material deffinitly makes this game only for the adults, but its not the primary focus of the game. I liked it since it added a touch of realism strangely lacking in other such games. If you're looking for a good game, with lots of suspense & intrigue, look no further... if you're looking for a dirty movie with lots of "action" look elsewhere.

Since your position is never more than that of an observer – hence the title – there’s no real way to influence the action, and therefore no proper or involving sense of interactivity. While enjoyable for a while, and laudable in its aspirations, Voyeur is ultimately an extremely shallow and rather disappointing experience.

The script is as good as a random episode of “Dallas”, which is to say competent but about as filling as popcorn. The visuals are blandly ordinary; nothing awful, nothing great. The single most disappointing thing about the game is this air of averageness and timidity that hangs around the project. Modest ambitions are one thing, but for a title that wants to sell itself as pushing the envelope to trade in nothing but conventional characters, conventional images, and conventional events is a matter of imaginative impoverishment.

Sure, the game might be slightly different each time you play through it but it is so easy to catch Reed Hawke doing something bad (not to mention the fact that once you've seen each of the crappy clips once, you've seen them too many times already), that you're likely going to shelve this sucker fast. I mean if you really gotta check it out (maybe the women in their underwear stuff is an attractive feature for you), here's a hint: tape every scene that has Robert Culp in it. He'll screw up and do something wrong and you'll win every time. And then you'll be treated to a phony news clipping of Culp being led to jail - Bad Game Jail, I hope.

For better or worst, the developer and publisher of Voeyur have raised the question of what constitutes appropriate content in family entertainment with the release of this title. Originally released for CD-I in 1994, the game has generated much controversy with its adult subject matters which no doubt has boosted its sale. Not surprisingly, Interplay Productions attempts to cash in on its popularity by porting it to the PC market.
