In the end, you already know whether or not you will like The Last Resort. If you're a fan of point-and-click adventures or the Wallace & Gromit series then this game is perfectly suited for you. And if you enjoyed the previous game then you're in luck: The Last Resort is smarter, funnier, and simply more enjoyable than its predecessor, which itself was a great game. It's a perfect example of what episodic gaming should be, providing a short and entertaining experience that doesn't overstay its welcome.

As a standalone game, this episode is undoubtedly more entertaining than the first. The third chapter (solving the crime) is particularly fun to play, and it makes for the best gaming moment so far in the series.

Telltale Games is on a roll with these games, and after two installments, Wallace & Gromit’s Grand Adventures continue to entertain. Their knack for highlighting specific elements that attracted people to these characters in their original incarnations and bringing them to vibrant life while allowing players to interact with them is genius, and is the main reason these titles are worth treasuring. Adventure gamers have gone hungry for far too long, but Telltale has made sure they’re keeping us satisfied. Please sir, can we have another?

Despite not being quite as good as the first episode, I think The Last Resort is still a solid and fun episode. It’s a shame that you can only buy all four episodes at once and not pick and choose, but I don’t think Telltale will disappoint with the other episodes, because I certainly enjoyed myself here. I don’t think any fan of Wallace & Gromit could stay in The Last Resort and not walk away satisfied.

The Last Resort falls slightly short of the debut episode. Overall, it's not a huge disappointment, because the game's characters are still quite charming and there's a lot of smart stuff being worked into the series that sets it apart from your average point-and-click adventure. As far as adventure games go, Wallace & Gromit's Grand Adventures has yet to eclipse Telltale's previous efforts with Sam & Max and Strongbad, but there's still hope the next two episodes will deliver on this series' promise.

The Last Resort is a fun game and worth the price of admission for gamers who are Wallace and Gromit fans. The visual style of the show and the overall humor are the high points here, but we were disappointed that the action never really moved beyond a few rooms in Wallace's house and seemed to bounce back and forth among a cast of characters who are nowhere near as compelling as the inventor and his dog. We're just confused as to why Wallace and Gromit have so little to do with each other in their own game.

It isn’t a hard game in any event, although I did get held up here and there. It isn’t terribly long either, with probably four to six hours of playing time seeing you through. Some more gadgets would have been nice, but all up it is engaging fun, and for those who like the Wallace world, you would be hard pressed to be disappointed. I do like that world but I did think the game lacked a little something. It was charming, but perhaps a little too familiar. Or perhaps for me there is only so much you can do with a quaint elderly gentleman and his debonair dog before it loses a little interest.

It’s flawed, then, but that’s not to say it’s lacking in charm. The puzzles are interesting, which is vitally important, and the setting once again promises a decent long afternoon of adventure gaming. It’s a shame, though, to see the script falling down when it comes to Wallace and Gromit themselves, and it’s also a bit depressing that so many environments are recycled from the first episode. But, whilst its flaws bring it down, the game always remains charming, consistently throwing friendly, lovable moments in your direction.

While still an enjoyable experience, The Last Resort fails to live up to its potential, and is more of an “Average Outing” than a Grand Adventure.
