Description

War of Omens is an online multiplayer collectible card game (CCG) with free playing options (against the AI in a campaign, Skirmish AI of different strengths and against other players in multiplayer), deck building by buying card packs (either using silver coins gained in free games, or with gems which need to be bought from the game's store), hero and deck customization (to combine your favorite heroine's special ability with a useful deck) and card upgrades.

The games attempts to set itself apart from other CCGs by building a unique world of low-fantasy. The world of Ausonia is populated by fantastical counterparts of real (or semi-real) historical factions: The Vespitole represent a religious merchant kingdom with much infighting, similar to Renaissance Italy, and whose power lies in gold, divine faith and rapid generation of resources. The Daramek represent an Aztec-like society that grows in power by sacrificing its own units in ever growing numbers. The Metris are a secret society (akin to the Illuminati, Free Masons and the like) that less focuses on units and more on prolonged effects which hamper the enemy and often use the enemy's own power against them. Finally there are Endazu - a mystical group based on Hindu mysticism - that uses cards which gain in power the longer they stay out of play.

Apart from a relatively long campaign, War of Omens seeks to innovate by changing the usual card mechanics: Each turn a player may buy and play cards using the available resources. However, cards that have expired, ally cards that have been killed and any effect card that has been played is returned to your deck, from which it may be drawn for free next turn. Thus killing your opponent's units may help you win, but it may also restock their deck with an army of cards. Balancing this issue, as well as your resources and pre-battle deck building comprises the tactical and strategic aspects of the game.
