PlayStation 3Calm Down Tom (Jan 06, 2012)
(1) I love this. It’s a return to an aspect of my childhood and addictive to play. Will it capture a new range of 21st century gamers in the same way? Maybe, who knows. I just hope a new generation of kids will come to appreciate the joys of what I once had back in the nostalgic 80s. (2) I was surprised by how much I enjoyed revisiting these classics in their new format. As I progressed further I thought carefully about each choice I made, aware that I couldn’t cheat this time, and a mistake would put me all the way back to the beginning. While there are some niggles, playing through both of these classics absorbed me completely for hours. If you didn’t try them before you’re in for a treat. If you loved them first time round, it’s time to strap on your adventurers sword one more time!

Much like Talisman of Death, if you like this sort of thing, The Warlock of Firetop Mountain is pretty much a must-buy. While it’s essentially more of the same, that’s quite often a good thing. They also improved a few minor interface things over Talisman of Death, so that’s commendable. On the other hand, The Warlock of Firetop Mountain just feels more dated, and you pretty much do need to draw a map (unlike in Talisman of Death, where you could remember what you did pretty well), so it requires a lot more patience.
