WCW Nitro

If you think the previous WCW games were too slow, WCW Nitro is like a shot of pure NBA Jam-style adrenaline. If you prefer your wrestling games with a strategic and serious element - and I admit I'm in that crowd - WCW Nitro won't float your boat. The choice is yours, my son (or daughter).

Graphically the game is fine but the one major flaw within WCW Nitro is the unresponsive control system. It seems to take an age to perform each move, while moving the wrestler around the ring becomes an unwelcome chore. Don't get me wrong, this is by far the best wrestling game on the Playstation, but then the rest aren't really up to that much either.

I guess that if you are a wrestling fan, you will really dig this game. Since I am not, I found it fun for a bit but tired of it fairly soon. Since I have no loyalties or opinions to any of the wrestlers, it really did not draw me in like a football or baseball game would, although football and baseball are sports, not acting. Anyway, I wish the moves would have been a little quicker to execute instead of being so sluggish. All in all, this is one of the better wrestling games around but if you are not a fan, you may tire of it.

Even with its graphical difficulties, WCW Nitro is still the best WCW-licensed wrestling game out there. WCW fans won't be disappointed, and wrestling game fans will have something to cheer about as well.

Acclaims WWF-Adaptionen fand ich echt vergnüglich, doch die WCW-Prügler müssen mit zu vielen Widrigkeiten kämpfen. Da wäre etwa die mäßige Grafik mit den häßlichen Hintergrundbildern, die träge Steuerung oder auch der wenig mitreißende Sound. An der Quantität kann man dagegen nicht meckern: Massig Wrestler mit unzähligen Angriffsvariationen halten zumindest den typischen WCW-Fan einigermaßen lang bei der Stange.

WCW Nitro's game play is decent, but not great. The number of moves is extremely limited, although each player has his own roster of special attacks. The button combos required to pull off most moves are not intuitive, and there are really too many buttons used in the game. A simplified control configuration would make game play much better. Again, the high flying rope tricks are a great aspect of the game, but even they cannot move the game into a higher enjoyment category. Overall, WCW Nitro is a wrestling game that most PC gamers will want to avoid. The game requires an obscene amount of space on your hard drive (150 MB), and it's really not that good.

I tried giving WCW Nitro chances to redeem itself, but each session left me as cold as Hollywood Hogan's black little heart. Go ahead and download the demo if you're ultra-desperate for wrestling action on your PC, but if I were you I'd bide my time and wait for something better than this ¿ and with the kind of ratings pro rating's getting nowadays, you can bet your turnbuckle there'll be another one coming along before you know it.

Let this game be an example of what not to do. Which is rushing a title out before its ready. So much could have been done only if the developers weren't in such a hurry. The graphics could have been 3D accelerated. The sounds could have been improved. Each wrestler's finishing move could have been properly represented. I believe that even the hardcore WCW fans will be extremely displeased with this game.

Wer abends vor der Glotze wieder einmal verzweifelt durch die Kanäle zappt und keine Wrestling-Show aufstöbert, der kann mit WCW Nitro seinen Sixpack auch neben den Computer pflanzen. Anhänger der zweifelhaften Sportart werden im Multiplayer-Modus ein zweites Fest der Freude feiern. Beinahe alle bekannten Aktionen der schwergewichtigen Artisten sind ausführbar und sorgen für gepflegte Showkost. Skeptiker dagegen werden zwar den einen oder anderen verschmitzten Lacher hervorbringen, auf die Dauer dem Produkt aber ihren Rücken zukehren. Sofort-Spaß hat mit WCW Nitro nur, wem die Wrestling-Welt geläufig ist, da sich die Balgkunst an typische Bewegungen der Schreihälse hält. Sollten Sie also hinter Begriffen wie Piledriver und Head-Scissors diverse Gartenwerkzeuge vermuten, dann gehören Sie leider nicht zum harten Prügel-Kern.
