What Makes You Tick?
Description
When Dr. Coppelius disappears for one year, the university sends a young man Nathan to his last known residence to find out what happened to him. Inspired by The Sandman ("Der Sandmann"), a story written in 1817 by E. T. A. Hoffmann, What Makes You Tick? is a short freeware point-and-click adventure game developed using the LASSIE engine.
The game shares a fair amount of similarities with The Curse of Monkey Island. Not only was the Lassie engine itself developed to mimic the game's interface, but the art and even the cursor strongly resemble the game. The game is entirely controlled by the mouse, with the inventory at the bottom of the screen. By clicking interactive items while holding the left mouse button down, a pop-up appears where players can choose to examine, pick up/use, or talk to items or characters.

Trivia
References
The scene in the game where backpacker Greg hands Nathan a can of Dr. Pepper is inspired by a real event. In 2004 Greg MacWilliam, creator of the Lassie engine, visited the designer of this game, Matthias Kempke, in Germany while he was doing a backpack tour through Europe. He brought along a can of Dr. Pepper for him, and there is even a picture of the meeting, with both holding a can. The picture can be viewed in the interview in the related links section.
