So Hudson has given is a smattering of games onto a single disc. I think this would have been much better with fewer games and higher attention to detail. With the control issues we experienced many games were more of a test of will rather than skill, but there was some bits of fun throughout. Some of the games on the disc are somewhat unrelated which magnifies the rule-of-thumb: less is more. The price is right, the games are fun, and the whole family being able to get in on the action together has to be a good thing.

In the end, Deca Sports isnt' a great title but it is a fun diversion that's sure to go over well with the casual Wii owner. Hardcore gamers and those expecting the second coming of Wii Sports will probably be disappointed but if you like to gather around the Wii with some friends for a few quick rounds of fun then definitely consider adding Deca Sports to your library. At the least, it'll help make the wait for Wii Sports 2 a little bit more bearable.

Gamers' Temple, The
Deca Sports is not even worth your money for a rental. You can play all the sports and grow bored with them within a half hour. Small kids may have a little fun here, but only if they're too young to realize that the controls are pretty random. Save yourself the time and frustration and go play outside instead.

Overall, Deca Sports is worth the budget-friendly $30 purchase. Some of the activities could've been better, the presentation could've used sprucing up and the lack of Mii support is hard to overlook. Regardless, most of these minigames are fun, especially if you compete against friends. While it doesn't replace the madness that is Wii Sports, it serves as a suitable alternative.

Nintendo Spin
Deca Sports is certainly an uneven package. While the ten sports had their share of good moments, they also featured spots of inconsistent controls, or in the case of badminton, bland gameplay. Still, if you have access to friends to play the game with, Deca Sports can definitely be fun. If you don't, shave two points off the review score and give the game a rent. The difference is that important, especially to fully enjoy the game's tournament modes or to actually have a balance in difficulty, since the AI can be soul-crushingly difficult in the worst controlling games (the racing ones) and seems too easy on the better ones (archery, soccer, figure skating, and curling). Overall, Deca Sports, like Wii Sports, is best enjoyed in the company of friends and is at its best when you're goofing off trying to outdo them or distract them.

Game Vortex
Again, something is missing here to make this a great game. The controls needed to be more responsive in the more active sports. The game is also missing charm, despite the cute and cartoony character design. It's worth a rental, but it probably won't see much play beyond a weekend.

Game Chronicles
All in all Deca sports sounds bad but it really wasn’t. You can play alone or with up to four people. Then you get to choose from eight different teams to play as. And after all that you get to pick from eight different games to play like the four I talked about as well as snowboarding, curling, archery, soccer, basketball, and go kart racing.

Wii Sports is still the reigning champion when it comes to party sports games. Deca Sports is, if anything, a distraction, and worth renting if friends are coming over. Those with sore elbows from Wii Sports addiction will be enticed by its discounted price, but keep going for the cross-court winner while the wait goes on for a successor.

The Next Level
The problem is that three bad games plus six ranging from barely adequate to decent plus a final "pretty good" one doesn't add up to anything worthwhile. There's a full tutorial and a variety of game modes to give extra life to the package, but the without the core gameplay there's no reason to bother. Multiplayer, mini challenges, and tournaments aren't going to turn "adequate" into "fun". Deca Sports really wanted to be a deeper version of Wii Sports, but ends up little more than a poorly-executed clone.

Nintendo Difference

The graphics in Deca Sports suffer from inconsistency and a lack of polish. The different sports have such a wildly different presentation, from okay to horrible, that you feel like you’re actually playing a game of Graphical Roulette instead of badminton or snowboarding. There isn’t the slightest attempt at being original in this game, but Deca Sports will more than likely sell millions of copies.

Two games out of the ten within Deca Sports are good – the rest, not so much. That's a 20% success rate for this compilation, so I think I'm being generous with my final score. Or maybe I just liked curling and archery that much. Yeah, I think it's the second one.

The most frustrating thing about Deca Sports is that it's not bad -- just bland, uninspired, and of questionable value. If you own a Wii, you also already own Wii Sports, which is better in every way...not to mention 100 percent more free.

Operation Sports
Overall, two out of ten sports is a terrible ratio. In baseball, Deca would be batting .200, which for those of you who may not know, is quite bad. The overall package shows a lot of promise, and even beats Wii Sports in a few areas. But when it comes down to it, for a multi-sport compilation to work, it has to boast simple, functional, yet fun games and Deca Sports only achieves that in a very small sense.

While we were all captivated with Wii Sports’ innovative play, it’s safe to say we’ve moved beyond it. If the public wants to play simple sports games, they have the disc which came with their hardware. Deca Sports tries to capitalize on the accessibility of the Wii, but what we’re left with is a mundane product that only has a few average standouts; and paying for three mildly-fun games doesn’t fit the bill, especially when there are better alternatives.

Worth Playing
Speaking of casual gamers, that's really the only audience in whichDeca Sports will find appeal. The title is overtly geared toward families with small children who will see the box with all the cute characters playing in all sorts of events and then falsely believe they are getting quite a bang for their buck. This is a game solely for those who want to waggle controllers for an hour and giggle; all other self-respecting gamers should just stay away.

As tempting as a game with both badminton and curling may be, there's no reason to recommend Deca Sports. The roster of events is baffling, the controls for many of the events are poor, the AI is pitiful, and the gameplay is so shallow that you're unlikely to get your money's worth before this one starts gathering dust on a shelf somewhere.

Game Positive
In the end, Deca Sports comes off as a feeble attempt to compete with Wii Sports. True, it is a collection of sports minigames for the Wii, but the similarities end there. Unfortunately for Hudson, Wii Sports is free, comes with the system, and is far superior in gameplay and design. None of the modes seem to blend together, with too much variety and too little execution. Most importantly, sloppy controls irreparably damage the game's experience. Although Deca Sports is fleetingly enjoyable, the curious choices for sports coupled with countless problems make this title something to be avoided.

In no way should Deca sports be played alone, it’s very hard to have fun with badminton or any sport when there’s no point to it. If th e game is played in multiplayer with a friend or two it’s really only fun if you play each sport once. The game lacks variations in sports themselves and the mix of sports is so strange that most people will only enjoy 3 or 4 of the sports. Like I said the graphics and sound are sub-par and the game modes don’t hold much value.

Game Informer Magazine
The Wii’s shovelware deluge continues with Deca Sports. This paper-thin offering bores its victims with 10 random sport activities like curling, figure skating, and beach volleyball. Single-player events like archery are passable minigames, but the team games are an insult to the sports they represent. The simplistic flick-your-wrist-and-sometimes-press-a-button interface is probably great for testing the motor skills of chimpanzees, but humans should do themselves a favor and use this same arm motion to fling this Hudson game into the Hudson River.
