Link’s Crossbow Training is a great solo and party game that comes complete with the well built and easy-to-use Wii Zapper. At this price, this would make a lovely stocking filler.

You'll also be able to be benefit from the Zapper when playing titles that "support" it, like Capcom's Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles and EA's Medal of Honor Heroes 2. All you really need to know is that the Wii Zapper bundled with Link's Crossbow Training is easily worth the low asking price, and every Wii owner should snag one as a matter of course. It's great for family gaming and the competitive edge offered makes it attractive to core gamers. If only Nintendo had bothered to include global ranked high-score leaderboards...

A short but challenging and surprisingly addictive score-based bash. It's great for the price, but proper multiplayer and online scoreboards would have made all the difference.

The game is undeniably fun, but I did notice a slight case of "lag" associated with moving the crosshair across the screen. Also, the multiplayer modes only support alternating turns. Even so, for a game so simple and plain, Link's Crossbow Training is a hell of a lot of fun. You won't want to play it for hours on end, but if you pull it out every once in a while, you'll always have a good time.

You get what you pay for when it comes to Link’s Crossbow Training, and that is something you can’t always guarantee in the video game industry. Whereas most people probably see a cheap game that comes with their controller when they look at Wii Play, they should see just the opposite when they look at the Wii Zapper: now you are getting a cheap piece of plastic with your game. Though it is very short (albeit with plenty of replay value for the perfectionist), Link’s Crossbow Training is also very fun, and I’d love to see this little spin-off expanded upon. Honestly, as the Wii Zapper is hardly necessary to play it (in fact, you might do better without it), I hope Nintendo decides to release this game as a WiiWare title, that way as many people as possible can enjoy it while shedding some dead weight and saving a few bucks. Until then, however, I’m sure you’ll find that the experience more than justifies the price.

Overall you can’t go wrong with the Wii Zapper. For a cheap price of $19.99, you get a peripheral and a quality game. Even though the Zapper itself is only a piece of white plastic which may cause you some serious hand cramps, it is nonetheless still functional and lets you break in Link’s new toy, the crossbow. The game is short lived, but fun; and for what you are paying, it’s hard to complain. The only hope is that either Nintendo or another company will re-examine the design of the Wii Zapper and come out with something that really works well. At this point, I still prefer my NES Zapper.

Link's Crossbow Training is a fun little title, which although feels like a Twilight Princess mini game, is probably, just about, worth its budget title price. Zelda fans will of course lap this one up, like any other Zelda title. If your buying another Wii Zapper game, you should definitely pick this one up, if your not perhaps you should re-consider as this game probably won't break the two session barrier.

For $20 this is a steal…for now. Other guns are either out or are coming out soon for the Nintendo Wii. If you only can own official Nintendo products then you might as well buy this bundle. Link’s Crossbow Training is a fun game for about an hour, but once you beat it there is no need to put it back on. Nice try Nintendo, but next time maybe you want to add more to the free game or charge people a whole lot less. Link’s Crossbow Training feels like a glamorized tech demo.

I'm not saying the Zapper is worthless, but it's a bad sign that I enjoyed Link's Crossbow Training a lot more once I chucked the peripheral aside. It's a shame this game is tied to the Zapper, because it's actually a very enjoyable shooting game filled with nicely designed challenges and lots of Zelda minutia.

As a standalone product, I wouldn't buy the Wii Zapper. It doesn't do anything for me. But I wouldn't pass up the chance to own Link's Crossbow Training. It's a short, but nevertheless fun demo that reunites Zelda fans with one of Nintendo's greatest icons while simultaneously providing a new way to see the lands and enemies that Link explores and fights respectively. The shooting mechanics are well done and the visual presentation looks like something right out of Twilight Princess - which, obviously, it is. I would have preferred more stages and more options, but for $19.99, I'm a little more forgiving. As an interesting aside, I would definitely be keen on buying future demo games of this type on Wii if they were also priced for the bargain bins.

As long as you don't expect more than a short but sweet shooting game, you'll be pleased with what Link's Crossbow Training has to offer. It's good enough that you might find yourself thinking of the Zapper as the bonus pack in.

What you are really buying when you pick up this bundle is a fun minigame that comes with a packed-in controller novelty. Crossbow Training is certainly a richer experience that classic titles like Duck Hunt, but it never really fevers like much more that a simple discount title - which it thankfully is.

The more the game requires Link to change views or move through the environment, the more potential for frustration—especially for those casual gamers looking for the next Wii Sports or Wii Play. Those games also offered more variety. Link's Crossbow Training, again, feels a lot like Duck Hunt—you get the birds, the grass, the dog, and that's about it.

The Zapper's low price is also compelling - the whole package only costs about $20 - but it's a redundant peripheral that doesn't really enhance your experience. I'd suggest you pass this one up unless you're a Wii fanatic, a light-gun aficionado, or a Zelda freak who just has to have every single Link game around.

Link’s Crossbow Training is certainly competent, but it’s also pretty bland, and very much the main attraction in the pack – the Zapper works moderately well, but you’re probably going to get your best scores without it. For AU $49.95 (as compared to US $19.99 in the states, which is much better value) we’re hard pressed to recommend it, especially since there’s no simultaneous multiplayer. That said, if you live in a house with a number of Zelda-loving siblings or housemates, we can definitely see the appeal in attempting to beat each others’ points scores – both in Score Attack (across three levels) and in Practice, where you can notch up a score for each individual level. Nothing like seeing your Mii proudly proclaiming household dominance. Still, more miss than hit.

It is not a long game and most gamers will probably play it through in roughly two hours, depending on how good a crack-shot you are. However, you will enjoy the multiplayer aspect of this game for many hours to come, much like Wii Sports and Wii Play. The real beauty of the game is that you will find you will want to immerse yourself in the Twilight Princess realm, either for the first time or to return again to this wondrous world created for us.

The problem with Link's Crossbow Training is unusual. It's not that it's a bad game. Instead, it's that there's just not enough to it.

The value price of Link's Crossbow Training will overcome most of the shortcomings for fans of the Zelda series and/or the shooter genre. It's nice to revisit some of those wonderful Twilight Princess environments, but don't expect the disc to live in your Wii for very long.

What's there is fun, though. The Zelda licence works well with the title, which is especially surprising in the Ranger sections, and it's good fun to go through the locations of Twilight Princess decimating enemies with bolts of steel. You have to be a bit cynical though and ask why they felt the need to have the pack-in Zapper game be a member of the Zelda series – oh, of course, for the sales. Plus they could re-use all the Twilight Princess assets cheaply which, surprise surprise, they have. There's nothing wrong with Link's Crossbow Training aside the length, but seeing how it turned out makes us wish they'd put some more effort in, released something else with the Zapper and turned out Crossbow Training at a later date with a lot more in it. And a better title.

Adrenaline Vault, The (AVault)
Link’s Crossbow Training is a fun, but ultimately a forgettable game, and the Wii Zapper is a bit of a sham. Fans of the Zelda series will enjoy Crossbow Training a bit more than those who aren’t, but that’s only for nostalgia’s sake, and not due to actual game play. I dare say that there are many Wii point-and-shoot titles that offer more repeat playing than this one, which is a shame given the concept.
