Nintendo Life (Feb 17, 2007)
It would be easy to sit here and rave about the smooth play control, the vibrant visuals, and the outstanding soundtrack all day, but what makes New Adventure Island such a treat is that, at its core, it's just an absolute blast to play. It has a well-balanced difficulty curve that gradually progresses, and it has a simple enough control system to make the game challenging without being overly complicated. New Adventure Island is the type of game that will remind you why you love video games in the first place and a game that proves that sometimes less is more. It's hands down one the best Turbografx-16 Virtual Console releases and a game you'll find yourself coming back to time and time again.
New Adventure Island is worth the price on the Virtual Console. There might be betters game on there right now, but this game is one of the best to pick from in the TurboGrafx-16 section. If you compare this Adventure Island to the original Nintendo one you will notice huge differences, mainly with the graphics. The controls are perfect and the game play will have you hooked whenever you fire up your Wii to play any sort of game. I would defiantly recommend buying this, I find myself playing this game over most of the Wii games out right now. Best part New Adventure Island is much cheaper.

Admittedly, he does get to ride a skateboard as well, but while everything looks very jolly and chunky, there are only so many times you can throw a boomerang at unmoving snakes and snails before it all starts to merge into one generic splodge of fruit pick-ups and palm tree backdrops. However, New Adventure Island is brighter and easier than most of its platform peers, so if you've got younger kids to placate this is probably worth adding to your collection.
