It's nothing new, but it's still a fun story for less than half the price of the DS version.

But, still, it's Phoenix Wright. Not a game for everyone, and certainly not for those who crave constant action or harbour deep-seated resistance to goofy anime styling, but a game every open-minded gamer should experience. If you're on a budget, or just don't have access to a DS, then this is a fine way to sample its abundant charms, provided you don't expect anything special in the presentation department. As a showcase of how Capcom plans to deploy its cult classics in the download era, however, it's less than convincing. Objection overruled, for now.

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney has so much personality and wonderful characters that it would almost be hard not to like it even if it was an awful game, but essentially it is the game. People that already own it on the DS will find scant reason to make them buy this Wiiware version, but adventure fans that never got the chance to try out the series first time around finally can and will find plenty to love, provided they don’t mind a largely easy game with an oddball sense of humour. The evidence suggests a verdict of buy.

I'm sure a lot of fans feel as though this is a classic everyone should, at some point, check out. The truth is, the handheld version is more fun to handle, the screen size means the production values are easier to swallow, and since these days you can probably find a copy of the DS game for about the same price, there's really no reason to settle for this greatly inferior iteration. As an aside, I do hope to see Phoenix eventually make a worthwhile appearance on consoles, one that lives up to the great legacy the series has now built up for itself. This one, though, isn't a crowning achievement for Capcom, and throwing your money at the game will probably only serve to send the wrong message to the publisher.

IGN
Capcom has taken its recycling one step further for Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney. The company has always been known for recycling existing game engines to produce new games and additional franchise sequels – Mega Man, Resident Evil, Battle Network, Ace Attorney on the Nintendo DS, just to name a few. But this is the first time the company’s simply farted out a console port with the laziness of what looks to be handheld system emulation. Yes, I still think that Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney should be experienced because it’s a fun adventure, but it’s impossible to overlook what Capcom did to get it running on the Wii console. It’s downright embarrassing. And what’s worse: you know that there are two more on the way.

As a low-resolution port of a last-gen game with barely any Wii Remote functionality tacked on, were this any other game we would be all too happy to drop the score further. But it barely escapes contempt of our court on the strength of its enjoyable storytelling which is, after all, some of the most entertaining dialogue available on any console.
