Are you a gamer? Do you own a Wii? Then you need Red Steel 2. In fact, this game is a reason to own a Wii all by itself. It delivers on the promises of the first game and then some, offering razor sharp controls, a beautiful art style one of the most visceral action experiences of 2010. There's really nothing else like it right now.

What's most amazing about the game though is how well Ubisoft Paris was able to take the system it given and play to its strengths. The game has a fantastic design aesthetic with its neo-Tokyo meets Deadwood set pieces and the cel shaded graphics allows for rampant creativity without having to try and compete for graphical awards. The sword play provides a steel swinging experience that makes you feel like the baddest of the bad without requiring more than a cool head and a hefty swing and in that sense it accomplishes precisely what it set out to do.

If you thought first-person shooters couldn’t be done justice on the Wii (and I was in that boat) then Red Steel 2 will make you think again. It’s stunning on the eye and gets your blood pumping both with the onscreen action and the physicality required to play it.

With a subtle progression of moves, an excellent sense of empowerment when you defeat a tough area, and a solid learning curve, Red Steel 2 manages to keep up the pace throughout its 10-hour adventure. Any fan of video games should check this game out, especially if you're into first-person shooters and/or combo-based brawlers. Plain and simple, this is one of the finest games to grace the Wii console.

Ubisoft have created an amazing adventure. They have taken everything from the last Red Steel and completely revamped it for the sequel. From the fluidity of the controls, to the impressive and tough boss fights, it's easy to pick up and ridiculously hard to put down. If you own a Wii, Red Steel 2 should not be overlooked.

The first let so many down, while part two succeeds in just about everything it set out to do. Maybe it’s the bundled MotionPlus, maybe it’s just better programming, but we left Red Steel 2 thinking it could be the most improved sequel of all time. If you’ve given up on Wii shooters, here’s a reason to rethink your stance.

Sve u svemu, igra nas je odmah podsjetila na svojevrsnu kombinaciju MadWorlda i No More Heroesa.

Red Steel 2 is absolutely an "A product." It's clear that the development team wanted to right the wrongs of the original game and produced an all new design with controls that actually work. There are still some issues, both in game balance as well as wishy-washy motion sensing control, but the awesome style and energetic gameplay are enough to make this one of the top titles on Wii.

Gamervision
Red Steel 2 isn’t just the game everyone wished Red Steel was, it’s better than that. It single handedly proves the Wii MotionPlus’s value for adventure games, while providing one of the best action experiences on the system. That said, it’s almost a tech demo for the hardware, lacking in terms of story and gameplay variety. That shouldn’t stop anyone from picking it up, however, as the game definitely lives up to the hype, and is a must-own for anyone interested in cutting up some Jackals.

Destructoid
Despite its flaws, Red Steel 2 is one of the best Wii games on the market. More importantly, however, it stands as proof that first person games can work on the Wii, and work really, really well. The game is more than a waggle gimmick. It's a genuinely solid FPS that is only enhanced and made great by the Wii's interface. Gratifying and empowering, Red Steel 2 is simple, unpretentious fun. If you own a Wii, this comes highly recommended. The difference between Red Steel and Red Steel 2 is like night and day, and you won't find a better use for your MotionPlus than this, that's for damn sure.

Consider the developers behind this redeemed as far as their ideas are concerned. Red Steel 2 is everything the original game was meant to be and so much more. The concept was just a bit too ahead of its time and I am glad they got a second chance to make things right. If you own a Wii and have been looking for a reason to dust it off, this is your game. It combines all the great ideas the console offers without too many gimmicks thrown in for good measure. The visuals are appealing, the controls are solid and the music is engaging. Red Steel 2 is yet another great addition to the ultimate year of gaming that is 2010.

So whether you’re more comfortable with your katana or a six shooter, Red Steel 2 has you covered. It’s a fun game that is unlike anything else really on the Wii right now so go pick it up and give it a slash.

Red Steel 2 is everything the original game should’ve been and more. While there are some lingering control issues and a linear feel, this is one of the best shooters you can find on the Wii.

In the end, Red Steel 2 is well worth playing, especially if you bought Wii Sports Resort and want to give MotionPlus another whirl. Just think of it as a fighting game, as opposed to an action adventure.

It's good, then; Red Steel 2 is a series of hugely entertaining combat skirmishes linked by some slightly formulaic level design. It's a lot of fun to play, with the steady rhythm of combat proving hugely satisfying, and it's great to see the Wii MotionPlus being used outside of Wii Sports Resort. As one of the few big-budget games on the platform from a third-party developer, and one that's trying to forget its unremarkable predecessor, Red Steel II makes sure to pull out the stops, scrub up well and always be on its best behaviour.

Almost four years after the original disappointed so many, Red Steel 2 serves as an apology letter from Ubisoft to Wii gamers worldwide. The new setting and storyline lend themselves well to the genre and the addition of Wiimotion Plus seems like it was made for Red Steel 2. Wii gamers looking for a solid experience that isn’t a mini-game collection should definitely check out the new Red Steel.

Over three years after the Wii hit store shelves, Red Steel 2 finally delivers the motion-controlled swordplay we expected from the original Red Steel, and it more than makes up for any niggling flaws in the level design.

Still, this is the best use for your Wii MotionPlus unit till the next Zelda arrives, at least. Red Steel 2 is complex without being incoherent, innovative without being off-putting, and one of the finest brawlers we’ve played full stop. That it will pound your biceps to cottage cheese could be considered a disadvantage, we suppose, but hey! this is an unhealthy past-time already, right?

Red Steel 2 has a fantastic control system, finally delivering on the promises made by the original, and the Samurai and cowboy sensibilities make for an interesting mashup and a fun premise. There are few quality titles giving the Wii a bit of edge, but this is surely one - an edge of cold, red steel.

Red Steel 2 is a great little arcade shooter/slasher that will hopefully be a benchmark and catalyst for more Wii Motion Plus titles.

The surprisingly delightful mixture of classical Japanese weaponry conjoined with that of a Spaghetti Western makes for a unique ride that never slows down or disappoints. Ubisoft has followed up a good concept and a bad game with a revised vigor and solid execution. It is true, 'Red Steel 2' delivers everything you expected out of the original-- not only in our gameplay expectations, but also in its production values. 'Red Steel 2' is visually solid, and a milestone for the Wii action games. There is no reason why every Wii owner shouldn’t give 'Red Steel 2' a shot; this is one of the best action games released for the console. Now that we have had a taste of the good stuff, we want more!

Game Informer Magazine
Fortunately, the good parts in Red Steel 2 are quite good. The combo system is flexible and offers room for experimentation. You can take on a crowd of ninjas and Jackals and decide precisely how you want to take out each one. Sure, you’ll be battling the same types of enemies in a few ugly venues, but the day that telekinetically pushing bad guys into explosive barrels gets old is the day I hang up my hat and sheathe my sword.

Nintendo Life
There's really only one thing you need to know about Red Steel 2, and that is that the sword combat absolutely, positively delivers in every way you want it to. The rest of the game does have some issues and without the stellar controls would have been more of a step sideways rather than forward for the genre, but shooting and slicing dudes is just too much fun to pass up.

Despite its flaws, Red Steel 2 is one of the best action games on the Wii. It's a gamers' game, with old school mechanics some will find tiresome (mentally and physically), and control issues guaranteed to frustrate. But it all comes together to work well, which is the most important thing. Red Steel 2 doesn't quite nail perfect 1:1 motion controlled sword fighting, but it points in the right direction.

This is no doubt, the kind of game many have been expecting since Wii’s launch. Even with its flaws it’s a very polished game with great controls, samurais, ninjas, cowboys and robots, what more could you want? Highly recommended.

For all its failures and half-successes, Red Steel 2 does show that a game can be daring and have some real fun without being pretentious. Did you hear that, Cliffy B? It is possible. Cliff would no doubt reply that it’s also possible to take yourself seriously and make a stable game that lives up to its own hype, a goal that the Red Steel team are closer to, but still yet to accomplish.

Cheat Code Central
While Red Steel 2 is vastly superior to the original in just about every way, it still has its share of problems. Swordplay is very enjoyable and has enough variety to keep you entertained, yet one-to-one sword fighting is still not an option. The new East meets West aesthetic provides a fairly unique backdrop for the game, but the environments are incredibly linear and segmented. Getting new abilities is fun and opens up new options to keep the combat feeling fresh, but to get all the cash you'll need to unlock them, you'll have to continue to perform the same few tedious side mission types. Red Steel 2 has definitely taken some great strides forward for the series, but there is still plenty of room left for improvement if there's going to be a Red Steel 3.

Meristation

Despite some frustrations, Red Steel 2's stylish blend of shooting with swordfighting is frequently exciting and makes good use of motion controls.

GameFocus
I really was looking forward to Red Steel 2. I was hoping it would become another reason to own the Wii, and provide proof that Nintendo’s console could deliver great content in the hands of the right developer. Regrettably, it’s neither of those things. Ultimately, Red Steel 2 failed to capitalize on its potential by delivering something that is little more than a beat-em-up. It misses the opportunity to take what excites people about the Red Steel franchise and turn it into something exceptional. That isn’t to say that Ubisoft has released a bad game, it just never moves beyond average.

God is a Geek
Red Steel 2, thanks to the Wii MotionPlus, is an infinitely better game than the original. Despite that fact, it’s still kind of hard to recommend it as a must own or must play Wii title. The foundations have been laid though and hopefully Red Steel 3 can build upon them. As it stands right now, Red Steel 2 is a decent one time playthrough. Nothing more and nothing less.

Gamekult

Flawed then, but Red Steel 2 remains effortlessly likeable nonetheless. Despite its shortcomings, the energetic combat, alluring aesthetic and rewarding sense of progression keeps you entertained to the last. Plus, you ARE a Samurai Cowboy, and who doesn’t think that sounds like fun?

There are a lot of things I wish Red Steel 2 did better, but it gets the big stuff right. The mechanics make you glad that the MotionPlus exists. The extra polish on the graphics (and the perfect spaghetti western music) helps a lot. Just remember to get off the couch when you play it. It helps.

Level 7

In the end, you'll likely forgive Ubisoft's game its shortcomings on the strength of its energy, obvious good will, and deep sense of craft. There are some thrilling set-pieces in here, along with moments that rank amongst the Wii's most beautiful, including a midnight rooftop race to catch a train which plays out under a huge cream-coloured moon. It's a lovely sequence. As with any good Western - or any good samurai film - Red Steel 2 is ultimately about character: it's flawed, certainly, but entirely honourable with it.

There can be a good amount of stupid fun to be had in just mowing down thugs, even when, like me, you find yourself maxed-out on health and strength well before the end of the game (it's easy to find money, you see). But other things that lack in substance -- the story, the nigh-unncessary melee combos -- negatively affect the touted sword control improvements. Altogether, you get a mostly unremarkable, occasionally exhilarating run through a dystopian Nevada. Just don't expect a long, drawn-out action adventure -- if it was, you might put your arm under serious stress from all the swinging.

The A.V. Club
Though there are some supposedly friendly faces in the game world, like sheriff Steve Judd and the big-boobed cliché Tamiko, Red Steel 2 is ultimately lonely and banal. In the name of earning a Teen rating, it’s strangely bloodless, too. A little personality and more narrative backbone would have gone a long way. Now and then, you’ll see glimpses of a better game. You’ll chain together a series of horizontal, vertical, and strong strikes, ending with a stylish Finisher, and suddenly the game feels empowering and vital. But for every moment like this, when the fiction of the experience starts to come together, there are countless other moments when everything feels utterly beyond your control. So can one “strike with deadly precision” in Red Steel 2? Sort of, sometimes. Though the pesky lag is largely gone, all too often, gameplay still devolves into breathless, embarrassing exercises in flailing.

The original game was chock full of surprises, but I grew weary of this one's repetitive, cookie-cutter missions and level lay-outs.
