All in all, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen provides a few hours of beat-'em-up/shooting action encased in a well-presented if corny story. The Wii isn't exactly teeming with playable action titles these days, so it might be worth a shot when you finish The Conduit this month. This is especially the case if you have fond childhood memories of the Transformers toy line, or if there are kids in the house.
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen would have been better if there was more focus on its vehicular sequences. As it stands, it is a mediocre beat‘em-up that you can safely pass by.
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen for the Wii is a noble effort to give that audience something different that plays to the system's strengths. The end result however, is plagued with repetition and just poor presentation. Including unlockable episodes is definitely a bonus, but when you don't take the time to label them so that users know what they are watching beforehand is just plain lazy. It feels like a quick and dirty job, which is made more disappointing by the fact the other versions have excelled so much. If you only own a Wii, this game is not more than meets the eye. I suggest avoiding if possible, but if you must a rental is definitely recommended.
Marginally entertaining rail sequences help change things up, but they are brief levels, and the game's two-player co-op does the minimal amount of effort meet the definition of the term – the second player is a sprite with limited attack options. In short, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is a gameplay disaster filled with one-dimensional characters that lacks many of the impressive ILM effects from the film. Yet somehow its story is still better than the movie's.
Revenge of the Fallen does include an unlockable episode of the original Transformers cartoon, but this is one of the few Transformer-y things the game gets right. The action seems designed around the idea that the coolest thing Transformers do is lumber around and punch other Transformers. The presentation is serviceable, but the campaign is painfully short (and kind of painful to boot). While Revenge of the Fallen isn't a criminally bad game, it definitely does a disservice to Wii owners and Transformers fans alike.
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen has close to zero redeeming qualities. I only say "close to" in case I actually forgot something, though at the moment, I can't think of any. Well, I guess the almost complete lack of Shia Labeouf is one thing.
I could give you a detailed list of how Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen either disappoints or simply fails to impress, but we're talking about a video game based on a film based on a cartoon which in itself is based on a line of action figures and toys. This game only exists to feed the marketing machine, and as such isn't a dreadful game, but it isn't enjoyable either. Revenge of the Fallen is just going through the motions, borrowing elements from better games and combining them with material from the film to pad out the play time. The end result is blandly average and we've seen it all before. As Ironhide says when knocking a Decepticon grunt to bits, "Bye bye, Decepti-guy."
In truth, there is absolutely nothing good about Revenge of the Fallen on the Wii. From the horrible graphics, sound, controls, camera and value I could not find a single meaningful positive thing to say about this game. This is yet another poorly made videogame adaptation that should have never been made.
Overall, it’s hard to see Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen as much more than an abject failure. The game is unforgivably short, looks bad, the waggle controls hurt, and the game forces players to do too much melee. Topping it all off is the simple fact that players don’t actually get to do much of any transforming, which really robs the game of a lot of potential fun. For all these reasons, this is a game best avoided.
I haven't seen the movie yet. I don't think the game gave too much of it away. The controls were raw at best, and infuriating at worst. The graphics are workable, but not stunning. The game play was repetitive and drab. Do not want.
