For the most part, S.P.Q.R. is an interesting and well defined murder mystery. The city of Rome has been well recreated and is an effective setting for such an interesting plot. The game will also find special appeal to those who love detailed graphical settings or the mythos of ancient Rome. Those who know S.P.Q.R. from it's days as a Rome on the internet, this should be their fodder. To all however I say, beware. The interface is extremely irritating and annoying at the onset. It does take time to truly immerse yourself in the feel of the game, but once there I think most won't be disappointed.

Overall, S.P.Q.R. is a bit more slowly paced and intellectual than the usual Myst clones and definitely doesn't break any innovation barriers, but is recommended for the more hard-core graphic puzzle adventurers and hobby historians.

Your goal in SPQR - a puzzle-adventure rooted firmly in the tradition of games like Myst, Shivers, Lighthouse, Jewels of the Oracle, and TimeLapse - is lofty indeed: Prevent the destruction of Ancient Rome in 205 AD by an unknown saboteur known only as "the Calamitus." Yes, the very idea is enough to stir the blood of any sleuthing adventurer. But after a few confusing and uneventful hours playing the game, many gamers might start to wonder whether saving Rome is worth the effort.

Myst skabte en enestående stemning i sine altid forladte omgivelser, men S.PQ.R. bliver håbløs og kedelig.

Apart from those who simply must play every adventure game, this game will appeal mainly to those who like who-dunnits, and who posses the attributes referred to above. Whichever camp you are in, you will do yourself a favour if you master the time control aspect, and use it to make things happen fairly constantly.
