Puzzle Pets

Puzzle Pets is a match-three puzzle game where adjacent tiles (pets) have to be swapped so that groups of three or more are created. The game features largely the same concept as the feature phone game Puzzle Pets: Popping Fun which was released a few months before. The basic gameplay remains the same but it has different levels and level objectives, all new graphics and some new additional features. It also uses a free-to-play business model with the player being able to buy coins that can be used to buy boosters or extra moves. Losing levels also cost lives and when all out of lives new ones have to be acquired or the player has to wait for them to recharge.

The main gameplay difference from the previous game is the addition of helpers. These are pet companions that can be used to clear tiles from the playing field. To use them they first have to be charged which is done by making matches or by feeding the helper. Each helper has a pattern that indicates which tiles will be cleared. When starting out the player has a dog helper but more can be unlocked with materials which the player collects by completing levels with one or three stars. Materials can also be used to level up the helpers. Unlocking and levelling up of helpers happen automatically as materials are earned. Materials can also be collected from mystery chests which can be bought with coins.

The game also features time limited events that end in a boss fight against a troll. Before going up against the troll the player has to collect five apples by completing five regular levels. In the boss level these apples are then used to hurt the troll. This is done by letting them fall to the bottom of the board where springs will launch them towards the troll. But there are also carnivorous plants next to the springs that can eat the apples and therefore have to be avoided.
