Trivia

Between 2002 and 2004, Anno 1503 won the Gold-, Platinum- and Special-Award from the German VUD (Verband der Unterhaltungssoftware Deutschland - Entertainment Software Association Germany) for selling more then 100,000 units (Gold), more then 200,000 units (Platinum) and more then 500,000 units (Special) in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. As those are individual awards, all three awards total in at least 800,000 units sold. Both Gold- and Platinum were awarded in 2002, the Special in 2004.

When Anno 1503 was released, there was no multiplayer-mode included - officially... In fact, they placed a file in their /data directory which enables the mp-mode...

Why they did this? This mp-mode isn't finished yet, it lacks a lot of features, balancing and so on. But they wanted to get some feedback from their fans without starting an official beta-test or stuff. So they hoped, that freaks will find out how to start multiplayer and give feedback, what to enhance...

The Anno 1503 Source-Code is about 400.000 lines long - almost everything coded by just two coders. And the graphician, Ulli Koller, has studied architecture - thus the very detailed buildings: http://www.anno1503.com/view_fullsize.php4?area=3&lang=1&id=575

By the way - Ulli is a very nice looking austrian woman :)
