Description2005 Traffic is an add-on for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004. It is designed to make the traffic element of the game, having other aircraft in the sky and at the airports taking off and landing, more realistic. This add-on package is based around a database that generates traffic based on real world airline schedules. The manual claims that over two hundred and eighty thousand scheduled flights flown by over five hundred airlines are replicated. Furthermore the package does not just add scheduled flights, it claims to add thousands of general aviation flights.
To achieve this the package updates the default AI aircraft with new planes and helicopters. These are modelled using the GMAX modelling software which allows for both high detail and movable surfaces such as propellers, engine fans and landing gear. The new AI aircraft include over forty airliners in authentic airline liveries, as they were in 2005, half a dozen new general aircraft and five new kinds of helicopters each with each with business and public service variants. Many of the default airports have been updated to allow more parking bays and runways with fifty of the worlds larger airports being further enhanced to replicate real-world parking.
The player experience is further improved by the addition of a virtual aircraft spotter, a 'follow me' car, an improved tower view and traffic viewing and editing tools. The car and airplane spotter can be used in any airport but the tower view is restricted to a specific airfield, airport, and either a medium or a large international airport. In addition air traffic control is also enhanced by the addition of four new voices, one US English, two British English and one English with a German accent.
2005 Traffic requires that Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 has patch 9.1 installed. The patch is on the CD and the install process has an option to install it if necessary, however installing the patch does come with a warning that some third party products may not work afterwards. Several 2005 Traffic tools are added to Windows' Start Menu by the install process, these are:
