In 5 days a stranger, arguably the best of the series, you are the well-known burglar Trilby, who just happened to break in to DeFoe’s manor. Soon he realizes that he can’t anymore leave the house for some reason, and he is locked for 5 days with other three people.

Gameplay is fun and the puzzles can be somewhat difficult. This game was made with an adventure game scripting system called AGS. Definitely a game worth playing.

Hendelsesforløpet i 5 Days A Stranger går, ikke overraskende nok, over fem dager sammenvevd med drømme-episoder mellom hver dag. De blir mer og mer sær etterhvert som spillet progresserer, og er ment både for å skremme og gi nye synsvinkler på mysteriet. Ingen vet egentlig hva som foregår, det er ikke mulig å flykte og alle er mistenkte når mordene hopper inn vinduet. Dette er et type spill som du bare må spille litt til for å se hva som skjer, mye på samme måte som «Fahrenheit» («Indigo Propechy») og drivet tar seg betraktelig opp proporsjonalt med hvor mye du spiller. Utvikleren bruker virkemidler som omvendt psykologi og konspirasjonsteorier for å sette hovedrollene mot hverandre og det fungerer utmerket.
But these problems don't hamper the quality of 5 Days A Stranger too much. It hasn't the lastability of some of the best freeware adventures, but it beats many of them in terms of atmosphere. It's far from perfect, but with such small download size you shouldn't miss it.

5 Days a Stranger was released in 2003 as an independent freeware game by renowned indy developer Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw and managed to gather several independent gaming awards, mostly for its story and gameplay. It has since spawned two sequels, with a third one scheduled for a 2007 release. With that in mind, let us take a look at the original game to see whether or not it is worthy of the following it has created since its release.
This is one game worth playing. Despite the few drawbacks it has (like sound, GUI), it is a really enjoyable title, which can take away a few hours of your free time.
...I had fun with 5 Days a Stranger. Not the kind of fun I’ve had burning ants with a magnifying glass, that’s hard to match, but more fun than most adventure games I’ve paid money for in the last ten years. I liked Trilby and wanted to see more of him and his nifty grappling umbrella. I wished the story could’ve lasted longer. Not a good sign, when someone designs a game on his days off and the three hours it took me to finish it are more entertaining than nearly everything the genre has offered in recent memory.
