Description
In this game you assume the role of Bolt Logan a mercenary and fighting machine who has been double-crossed by his (also mercenary) friend and partner Ron 'Pointer' Hertz.
This is a first person perspective shooter in which you are being assigned various missions which you have to complete with the help of your assistant Carrie, in order to get paid and solve the big mysteries of the war between 3 major mining Corporations in the future: Spacon, Zetrox and CoreTech.
Once upon a time in the distant future mining Corporations spread their activities across the galaxy, searching for Chrome which is the hottest commodity in that era. Being the leader in chrome resources is what the game is about and the two major corporations (Zetrox and CoreTech) know this very well. They also know how to play dirty and they have all kinds of tricks in their bag.
After being betrayed by your long time partner you find an assistant, Carrie who is a tech expert. With her help you get some contracts with Spacon, a smaller mining corporation, in order to earn your living. As the plot progresses, Spacon HQ gets invaded by Zetrox armed forces and everyone at Spacon is massacred.
It all begins to evolve in a war between corporations and you decide to move out of the case, since your employers Spacon do not exist anymore, when you're being approached by CoreTech which allegedly was collaborating with Spacon in some research and they are willing to pay you Spacon's owed bills. They also show you some photos from the Spacon HQ massacre. It is the point when this war gets personal, as you recognize the face of 'Pointer' as the leader of the assassins. It's the moment when you unleash your revenge...
The outcome of this war is based on your decision on which corporation will you team up forces with and you can end up this game in 3 ways.
The missions are search and destroy, or search and rescue with hints of stealth action in between. The player has to either scoop a given area, usually in the form of islands or remote areas, enter bases, disable or destroy installations, drive vehicles and combat bots, sneak in areas silently and steal precious data, or go for a full frontal assault.
The sceneries range from forests, to swamps, canyon desert, snow and ofcourse claustophobic base and laboratory installations.
An adequate range of weapons are the tools of Logan's trade, ranging from 3 kinds of pistols, SMGs, Assault rifles, Sniper rifles, energy bolt rifles, a rocket launcher and two types of grenades. Non weaponry items such as medikits, binoculars, cloaking devices that render you totally invisible to the enemy and neural relievers are also at the player's disposal in aid to the missions success.
The player has also implants in his body. These are specializing in areas like: faster reflexes, zooming vision, targeting assistance, faster movement, weapon recoil suppression, heat vision and dermal armor. All these bionic modules can be a huge help in the combat, with the only drawback that they drain energy from your neural system. Using them longer than Logan can handle, will cause a temporary neural breakdown and vital energy loss.
Also the player has a living organism scanner which scoops an area of 180 degrees in the front and displays the location of all human and animal entities. This is particularly useful for exploring rooms; the player is able to see if there's a guardian behind a closed door in front of him, or areas where vegetation or other obstacles obstruct clear vision.
The gameplay of the levels is laid out in a classic shooter pattern, where the player has to complete a primary and in some cases a secondary task in order to evacuate, or have a fight with the level's boss before evac. Before and after the level the player watches cut-scenes which are informative of the plot that will follow, or explain the big picture behind the last level.
Finally, the player has two choices of gametype: he can either play as singleplayer or join a multiplayer session.
