Electric Games
While more of an upgrade to Air Warrior II than a new game, Air Warrior III features some wonderful additions over the previous version. New planes, LOTS of new single player missions, and 3D accelerated graphics. Interactive Magic is offering an upgrade deal to owners of Air Warrior II, either by purchasing it directly from them at a reduced price, or via rebate for those who bought it at their local retail store. Bottom Line: Still a wonderful flight sim after all these years! Improvements over the previous version include new planes, new single player missions, and support for accelerated graphics. Multiplayer support grows to 250 simultaneous players. While the terrain looks far better now, the lack of relief detail still remains. Multiplayer supports more connection types than Air Warrior II, but is still not free.

Mega Score

The single-player game isn't quite good enough to warrant a Classic rating, and the fee-based multi-player set-up rankles the anti-establishment anarchist inside me just enough to stop me from giving it a higher score than the one I have. Which is a shame, because Air Warrior III is one of the best multi-player games I've ever played. And that includes Quake II.

Power Unlimited

Unfortunately the feel of a full product is just not present. The problem is that Air Warrior is an online game first and foremost (and a fairly decent one at that), but the offline air combat flight is a noticeably distant second. You still have the feeling that the offline scenarios were merely tacked on as an afterthought. Over 450 afterthoughts, in fact, if you don't count the campaigns. The fact that Air Warrior III is built as an online game is apparent as soon as you jump into the cockpit; everything in the game engine is built around providing the pilot with information in the most simplistic and understandable way.

Airwarrior 3 begeistert
und enttäuscht
zugleich: Ohne motivierende
Kampagnen und intelligente Computergegner
ist der Einzelspieler-Part
bestenfalls dazu geeignet, sich mit dem
Flugverhalten der Maschinen vertraut zu
machen. Nachwuchspiloten werden durch
die schlecht aufgemachten Trainigseinsätze
und die kryptischen Tastaturkommandos
abgeschreckt.
