Summary

Certainly one for the strategists out there.

The Good

I like the overall concept and the game runs smoothly enough at your chosen speed. You can stop the battle to make command decisions or if you are a bit of a Eisenhower make them "on the hoof." The tool bar gives you plenty of options for the troops and you can zoom in or out to an adequate level for control purposes. The game can be treated as a chess match and stopped and saved as often as you like. This is how I have been playing it and makes for the real strategy lovers among you.

The Bad

The sound is basic and evolves around weapons firing. Troop updates are scrolled across the top of the screen and can be missed if a couple of things happen at once. The game would be vastly improved by "radio messages" to tell you what was happening. Even if this was impossible then random messages that meant nothing would add to the realism. Fog of war is not an option for turning on or off and the game would be better off with this function. No update patches on the go possibly indicate this one is shelved although sequels are available ie Highway to the Reich.

The Bottom Line

It has come down in price since release and for the £10 I spent on it is very worthwhile. Definitely for those of you who enjoy hex strategy (although there are no hexes in AARDOA) and will love it.
