I haven’t had this much fun with a platform title since well...Alice. That’s probably due to my avid enjoyment of the Grimm tales and of all things macabre and twisted. While this title is all in good fun it may not be suitable for some audiences, namely children. I do however encourage that anyone that is an Alice fan to give American McGee’s Grimm a try. I doubt you will regret it. And the best part is, as I’ve mentioned above, it’s absolutely FREE. As an evil little man once said “Happily Ever After Ends Now!”

If A Boy Learns What Fear Is is any indication of how this series will turn out, then it is going to be a blast. And the best part is, this first episode is free! Definitely download it, especially if you like to see good fairytales go bad.

Once in a while it's good to kill and not be killed in return. American McGee Grimm's first episode is a rather relaxing game to play in that regard. However, since you can't really die, the game presents no challenge. In addition, the gameplay lacks depth, and is also extremely short, but this does go with the episodic territory. The first episode of this new adventure series is free on GameTap, but its sequels will only be free for a limited time. But since this one doesn't cost anything, you therefore have to ask if it is going to be worth your precious and valuable time? The game functions alright and has a unique premise, but overall it's a bit of a stinker.

Despite these problems, Grimm still has promise. The first episode should have set out to impress us, but it feels more like a glorified tutorial, and we won't get into any familiar fairytales until the next episode. The visual style is not terribly original, but fits the setting nicely. There just needs to be more to do. Should successive episodes provide a more engaging experience, Grimm could be worthwhile in the long run, but its opening act leaves little to be desired.

An admirable effort with a sliver of promise, but essentially mediocre.

Grober Unfug also, weder lustig noch spielerisch relevant.
