ArmA II: Operation Arrowhead
The core of the game is new campaign with eight missions, taking place three years after the liberation of Chernarus and depicts the country of Takistan. Supposedly aided by the CIA, on April 17th, 2012 a group of rebels attacked the most important drilling locations in the country, destroying one years worth production of oil and 68% of all the oilfield. This lead to a sudden lack of resources which are needed for the government to stay in power. Now the internal structures break and more and more people demand a change. In their desperation, the government threatened their neighbour Karzeghistan with the use of chemical weapons, if they won't return the oleaginous Sharig-plain to the Takistanian people. On June 1st, 2012, Allied forces began building bases in the areas controlled by rebels and brought Operation Arrowhead to life. The goal of the mission: Neutralise any threat to Karzeghistan and avert any attack against it.
Once again, the player is dropped together with his squad into the target zones to fulfill different objectives and neutralise any threat using a vast array of real-world weaponry including more than 300 new units, weapons and vehicles like the H-64 Apache, MH-47 Chinook, AH/MH-6 Littlebird, Stryker, M3 Bradley, T-55, BTR-60, M113, UH-1H, FN FAL from several different factions including the US Army, United Nation, Takistani Army and Guerillas. As opposed to the main game, the player will however not only take on the role of an infantry soldier but also play as a tank commander or a helicopter-pilot throughout the campaign. To get started, a new 15 mission long tutorial awaits where the player step after step learns how to control his soldier as well as all the equipment including the all-new Unmanned Arial Vehicles with which he can guide missiles over great distances into the target.
During the missions, the player will not only encounter many enemy soldiers but also civilians. They will ask him for help protecting a village from approaching terrorists for example. the player however has the choice weather or not he wants to help them. Of course this influences how the population reacts to the player in the future. If he helps them, they'll help him in future missions, showing him where the enemy has placed mines and such. If he refuses, they will turn against him.
Besides the campaign, the add-on once again features seven unique scenarios, a weapons chamber the player can play around in to unlock additional weaponry and a powerful but complex editor that allows him to create his own missions. Also back is multiplayer for featuring Deathmatch, Team-Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, Coop and more - this time for sometimes up to more than 100 players at the same time thanks to the three new Central Asia style large maps with urban, desert and mountainous terrain featuring a fully destructible and interactive environment.
One of the most gameplay-relevant changes is the new enemy positioning system. Instead of just shouting "Enemy, right, far", the player's teammates will give him exact directions and a precise distance to the target. Also new: detachable backpacks with equipment, advanced weapon optics and material penetration modelling.
