Assassin 2015

Zwar hat Warner mit Assassin 2015 das Rad nicht neu erfunden, die komplett gerenderte Welt und die starken Gegner machen Assassin zu einem mehr als guten 3D-Action-Shooter. Wie bei jedem Spiel dieses Genres ist auch bei Assassin 2015 die Langzeitmotivation vom persönlichen Geschmack abhängig.

Egentligt burde et spil som Assassin 2015 ikke have en chance, men jeg blev alligevel fanget af stemningen. Grafikken er ikke noget specielt - faktisk lidt grim - og lyden er kun OK.

Ultimately, we've seen, done and slaughtered everything in this game. Though it strives to deliver gun-baking mayhem, there's no way to put in in the category of Duke or Quake. Serious shooter fans looking for a little personality in their firefights may be interested, but Assassin is strictly a second-tier shoot-em-up.

Fans of Marathon 2, or even gamers looking for a first-person game with more of an adventure feel, may get some thrills from this title, but if your first-person shooter hot list includes games like Quake or Descent, you may be disappointed that this is not one of the most visceral action games on the market.

Overall, there is little in Assassin 2015 to recommend it over its many competitors. Blue Sky Software, the company that developed it, and Inscape both need to realize that slapping together a 3D first-person shooter clone with no distinguishing features in today's crowded market is not going to succeed.

Assassin 2015 är i några avseenden mycket irriterande. Råkar du öppna fel dörr visas bara en animation av hur du blir skjuten i småbitar. Motståndarna är mer än nådigt korkade. Och alltsammans slöas ner av datorgenererade korta videosekvenser (som visserligen är ganska snygga men väldigt onödiga). Det enda positiva med Assassin 2015 är idén med en medhjälpare som försöker guida en rätt i labyrinterna, men bortsett från det får spelet klassas som bra tänkt men nej tack.

Worst of all is the length of the game. On the default (medium) difficulty level, I played through the game in about three hours. Yup, start to finish in three hours. This also helps the story line hold together, but if you'd just spent $40-$50 for the game... The game is made even easier by an accomplice who tells you which path to take through the levels. If you find this game in the bargain bin for $10.00, it might be fun for a few hours. But at full price, stay far away.

Assassin 2015 casts you as an assassin, penetrating an evil megacorporation, assassinating someone, and escaping again. It's got a Doom-style 3D engine, unusually intelligent baddies who'll get out of the way if you fire repeatedly at them, and an excellent intro featuring a Blade Runner city and a bloke sitting in a diner drinking coffee. But every potentially good idea in it seems somehow to have been fouled up.

Assassin hat einige recht brauchbare Ansätze. Hätten sich die Macher für Dinge wie Feindintelligenz und Logik ebensoviel Mühe gegeben, wie für die zahlreichen Videosequenzen, dann wären drei Sterne drin gewesen. Die Levels wirken steril und sehen nur in der höchsten (ruckelträchtigen) Auflösung gut aus, in den beiden niedrigeren wird es arg pixelig.

Vor 10 Jahren konnten sich bestimmt einige Spieler mit Assassin 2015 samt seiner Fehler anfreunden, heutzutage aber muss man weniger auf die (laaangsamen) Schüsse der Gegner achten, sondern eher darauf, dass einem vor Langeweile nicht das Herz stehen bleibt. In diesem Sinne kann ich mein kleines Review über diesen Shooter nur mit folgendem Satz abschließen, der eine Antwort auf den ersten Absatz dieses Artikels ist: Nein, er hat es eigentlich nicht verdient.
