Summary
The best action movie I ever played.
The Good
Assassin 2015 plays like a good action movie. The plot unfolds, as you move around the building, shooting guards, droids and doors, and running away from the G350.
The game follows the classic action movie plot with an anti-hero, political intrigue and betrayal.
The video scenes in the game, especially the amazing introduction, are of very high quality, which is surprising for such an obscure title. Blue Sky obviously used a lot of motion capture to make them, which wasn't very common in 1996 as it is today. The music is a direct hit, changing from classic piano riddled film-noire music in the introduction sequence, to pulsing electronic music for the action sequences. The voice acting is really something to hear, one of the best I have ever heard.
Playing the game is fun - a no brainer, really, on the easy levels - and is diverse enough to keep you interested.
The Bad
As a
game, Assassin 2015 fails. The game is pretty easy, and you can finish it in a few hours. It is
completely repetitive, and there are no surprises in playing it a second time. Paying $30 for such a game is two much.
The music in the game itself (not in the cut-scenes) is MIDI music, which just sounds horrible. I can't figure out why they didn't use MOD music, since the 3D engine isn't very rich, and there should have been enough CPU time for some MOD music.
The Bottom Line
Assassin 2015 plays just like a good action movie: it's fast, funny, not too cerebral, and is over in two hours.
If you can find it in the discount bin, borrow it from a friend, or rent it somewhere - it is well worth your time.
