Axis and Allies surprised me in many ways. First of all, I did not have much faith in Atari, just because after the smash hit,Unreal Tournament 2004, they really were very mediocre in their releases. For example, Driv3r and Demon Stone were very buggy and seemed rushed. This title has definitely bolstered Atari’s and Timegate Studios’ reputation. Both did a great job on this game, in a genre that has been watered down by the numerous attempts by various companies.
For fans of real time strategy, those battles are more than good enough on their own to justify getting this game. Strategy game vets who aren't familiar with TimeGate's model may be challenged at first but they'll eventually come to appreciate some of the new twists on the traditional RTS concepts.
An unpretentious game whose simple game mechanics belie plenty of depth and challenge. If you are looking for a strategy game that is easy to get into that also delivers a lot of re playability then this is the game for you. Re-fight WWII your way and re-write the history books. This is a little 'cracker' of a strategy game that should be on your Christmas list.

Apparently this game is based on, or inspired by, the original board game. If you want an exact copy of Axis and Allies, then you can probably find the original computer title for a couple of bucks online now. But if you want a spiffy new World War II game with the action of an RTS, then this new Axis and Allies title is right up your alley.
Axis and Allies is a solid real-time-strategy game that fans of the genre will appreciate. The game play and wide variety of strategies available make it fun for solo and multi-player action. The graphics and sound are well done. Over all this is an above average game, but I would recommend that anyone new to the real-time-strategy game take a closer look before buying the game.

Over all, if you are looking for an accurate WWII simulator, you should probably look elsewhere, as this game is not that. What it is, is a fun game that gives the feel of re fighting WWII, with a difficult and aggressive AI that will try to wipe you out. In fact, the Iwo and Okinawa scenarios seem almost unwinnable. The strategic game is not as well developed, but its still fun, and easy to play. If you like combat and WWII, by all means, pick this one up.
It helps to be a History Channel fanatic to really love this game. Fans of the board game who have never played RTS will no doubt be very unhappy. Axis and Allies is a fair entry in the World War II genre when it comes to RTS titles. Those looking for a quick strategy fix will not be disappointed. If this game came out last year it would have been an instant favorite. But now it’s competing against some revolutionary games for Christmas dollars, including Timegate Studios own bestselling Kohan II. I wouldn’t buy this game at full price, but if it dropped $10 during post-Christmas sales, by all means pick it up.

Overall, Axis and Allies is a good effort and is already based on an excellent game. (To the latter, it's already half way towards being a winner.) As such it is unfortunate that it misses the mark slightly by adding a couple of things that don't work quite as well they could have. Still, Axis and Allies does do a lot of things right and is sure to bring some good times to the RTS gamer in this the gaming dry season.
Summing everything up Axis & Allies is a slight disappointment, since it tries to meld two strategy styles and falls short in both cases. The Real-Time strategy portion is nice, but the campaign section is rather short, even though the major ‘World War II’ campaign is a separate game that allows you to access the RTS elements, there are still better titles out that, I’m afraid, do it all much better.
I cannot recommend this game to anyone. There are just too many games in this genre that are much better packaged. Axis and Allies for the PC is more frustrating than fun. I’d rather spend my valuable RTS time playing Dawn of War.
While the game's multiplayer portion can be enjoyable, it's hard to recommend Axis & Allies based on that aspect alone, especially since the real-time strategy genre is filled with so many excellent, well-rounded games. The single-player portions of the game are ridiculously easy, even on the hard settings. Only a few campaign missions are remotely challenging, and even these cases are due to poor AI with Allied forces. Simply put, there are much better World War II games on the market, and Axis & Allies board game fans are encouraged to steer clear.
The popular World War II-themed tabletop game makes its way to video games once again, but this is the first time that it appears as a real-time 3D strategy title. However, this game bears very little semblance to the board game it's based on and plays more like Timegate's previous title, Kohan II. The animations are very nice, and the game delivers a fairly decent experience, but there is a pretty sizeable learning curve involved. Additionally, the lack of sea units and carriers of any type make the title needlessly tedious.
Overall Axis & Allies is an okay looking, okay playing, and okay sounding game. Nothing really stands out or pulls you into the game. I’d say look else where for your RTS thrills unless you’re really into your King Tigers and Panzers.

Clunky A.I. is such a fundamental flaw in a game like this that it robs the single-player of any suspense, and winning simply becomes a chore. Add to this deficiency other weak elements of the game engine: controls that obscure 30 percent of the viewable area, needless complexity instead of real depth, framerate and stability issues, the overwhelming power of early infantry rushes, et al., and there’s not much left to pin a medal on. Multiplayer offers some solace, but since there are so many other options in this genre, you’re better off spending your money on a game that provides a more gratifying solo experience. If you absolutely must have everything WWII, consider Axis & Allies. Otherwise, look elsewhere. soldier.
In fact, this is the entire problem: Axis & Allies never really comes to life as anything other than a misguided attempt to translate Kohan's gameplay into something that doesn't really work. It has no bite, no personality, none of the visionary creative energy that have brought Timegate's other games to life. It's as clunky and flat as an outdated history book.
