Mit Battlefield Vietnam präsentiert sich die erfolgreiche Multiplayer-Franchise in neuem Glanz. Dank neuer Sound- und Grafik-Engine besticht das Spiel durch ausgezeichnete Grafiken und Sound-Effekte. Dabei wird der actiongeladenen Multiplayer-Stil, der Battlefield 1942 so erfolgreich machte, natürlich beibehalten.

Battlefield Vietnam entführt den Spieler in einige der heftigsten Schlachten des Vietnamkrieges. Der Spieler kämpft vom Ho Chi Minh Pfad bis hin zu den Straßen von Saigon. Hierbei entscheidet er sich für eine der beiden bestens ausgerüsteten Truppen, die Vereinigten Staaten oder die Nordvietnamesische Armee (NVA), um das Schlachtfeld zu stürmen.

Zu den neuen dramatischen Kampfszenarien zählen unter anderem: das Führen eines Geschwaders von Huey-Hubschraubern während feindlicher Angriffe, das Steuern eines Phantom F4-Düsenjägers, das Ausführen und Abwehren von Hinterhalten von, das Befördern eines Panzers mithilfe einer Luftbrücke über das feindliche Gebiet oder das Steuern eines PT-Bootes durch eine gefährliche Flusspassage im Dschungel.

Verschiedenen Charaktermodelle bieten den Spielern eine wesentlich größere Auswahl an wählbaren Soldaten.

Im Vietnamkrieg wurden mächtige neue Waffen eingesetzt; der Spieler hat nun die Möglichkeit, eine Auswahl an authentischen Fahrzeugen der Vereinigten Staaten und NVA zu steuern.

Das Arbeitstier der Vereinigten Staaten war während des Vietnamkonfliktes der Hubschrauber, der nun auch denselben Nutzen in Battlefield Vietnam erfüllt. Zu den Kampffahrzeugen, die dem Konflikt entstammen, zählen der UH-1 Huey-Helikopter, der M551 Sheridan-Panzer, der Phantom F-4-Düsenjäger, der CH-47 Chinook-Transporthubschrauber und auf Seite der NVA der russische T-54-Panzer, MIG-21 und der Mi-8-Mehrzweck-Helikopter.

EA is pleased to announce that Battlefield Vietnam has officially gone gold for the PC. The game is set to ship nationwide to retailers under the EA GAMES brand on Monday, March 15.

The Battlefield franchise is entering a new era with more firepower and beautiful yet ferocious new combat settings. Offering an arsenal of weapons and vehicles authentic to the Vietnam conflict, players will battle in first-person perspective. Staying true to the over-the-top, action-packed multiplayer style that gave Battlefield 1942 its critical and commercial success, Battlefield Vietnam will drop players into some of the Vietnam War’s fiercest battles. Fighting in theatres from jungles surrounding the Ho Chi Minh Trail to the city streets of Hue, players will choose from two well-equipped forces, the United States or the North Vietnamese Army (NVA) and Vietcong. All of this action will be accompanied by the sounds of an authentic Vietnam era soundtrack to immerse the player into an experience similar to that of a Hollywood film.

Battlefield Vietnam was developed by Swedish based Digital Illusions' Canadian office and is rated “T” (Teen) by the ESRB. The game’s official website is www.battlefield.ea.com

"The first level we played was one of the river maps, with the US forces starting on a small island and driving across to the shoreline via boat or (hallehlujah!) choppers. Anyone who's played Desert Combat will likely find the choppers a bit easier to control in Battlefield 1942, using the forward and back keys to go up and down, and the mouse or arrow keys to tilt, etc. It still takes some time to get the hang of, but you'll still have the option to bail out and parachute to safety (something I have way too much experience at)."

"Thanks to a ton of additional foliage, combat is more intense now. You can never tell where the other guys are going to come from. Snipers can hold a point for much longer, and there are a lot more chokepoints to go around as well. We had a lot of island-hopping and gulch-crossing going on, both of which will cause a dangerous amount of exposure and should make for some memorable battles."
