Ultimately, Ubersoldier falls prey to its own popular genre. The game isn't bad by any means, if you're looking for a mindless romp through WWII Europe, buy the game and lose yourself for a few hours. Ubersoldier just doesn't contribute anything to FPS' as a whole, and many features of the game are indistinguishable from a title two years older.

UberSolider is a decent FPS, but it is a very basic one that lacks attention to detail. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it takes a certain type of gamer to really enjoy this type of mindless, systematic FPS gameplay. A few unique abilities and features are thrown into the mix, but these don't add up to make a whole lot of difference. If you simply can't get enough first person shooting action, UberSolider is a fine game, but if you prefer to reserve your gaming to more advanced, detailed shooters, you could safely give it a miss. Given it is priced reasonably low however (AU$49.95), you could definitely do a lot worse for the money.

UberSoldier doesn't push any boundaries. In fact, it's pretty old-fashioned, but at least the combat can be exciting. This is the sort of game you can enjoy well enough while you're playing it, but once you exit the program, you'll be in no great hurry to play it again.

All in all, Übersoldier is fun to play but won’t keep your attention long. It has no multiplayer, which could have been a big redeeming quality. It’s a less than premium game with a, thankfully, less than premium price. Nothing too special here, download the demo and try it out for yourself.

UbserSoldier is hardly a big budget, full priced shooter, it can be purchased for around £15 and should therefore be judged on a slightly different scale. That doesn't mean I'll be too generous though as it's less than great to begin with. However it does improve greatly as you progress, it's also graphically good, the sound is decent and the guns have a really solid and authentic feel. The supernatural powers Karl posesses also add an extra element to what is otherwise fairly straight forward shooter fayre. Unfortunately one of those powers (the Temporal Shield) makes things a little too easy at times, not to mention monotonous, some other sections can be frustratingly hard too. Some really poor voice acting doesn't help an awful lot either, that said, UberSoldier is not a total train wreck by any stretch of the imagination. What we have is a flawed but mildly entertaining shooter that doesn't cost a lot of cash.

Not exactly revolutionary and in most ways not even evolutionary, UberSoldier sinks even further into mediocrity with its appalling load times, pathetic voice acting, and power-hungry coding. However, its environments and scenery are quite magnificent, its battle concepts compelling and its AI adequate. The game is gritty enough for those who've already been desensitized to the cartoonish violence of typical shooters, and the hero is capable of at least one highly unusual, innovative trick. That's enough to make it worthy of investigation by the majority of FPS fans.

To utilise a completely unrelated analogy, UberSolider is the ever faithful, once queen of the dolls, Barbie while something like Counter-Strike is Bratz, the new kid on the block reveling in the attention its receiving and showing Barbie up. While Barbie's still trundling along, going for trips in her motor home, the Bratz are out partying and cheating on their boyfriends like the socialites that they are. If Barbie is ever to regain her crown, she'll have to do the same one day, otherwise she'll forever be in the shadow of her rivals. In the same light... sort of... UberSolider lacks online play and offers an average, ageing, gaming experience - Counter-Strike does the opposite. Sure UberSoldier is a budget release, but sometimes you pay for what you get... and sometimes true quality deserves spending a few more notes. Uber by name but despite a hardy effort, not, unfortunately, by nature.

There is fun to be had here, at least if you are, for some reason, obsessed with Nazi iconography and the kind of alternate universe that was first cooked up by Return To Castle Wolfenstein. Just don't expect quality, consistency, coherence, or any kind of worthy challenge to the head muscle, or the trigger finger.

If UberSoldier had a multiplayer mode, there may have been some salvation to be found, but surprisingly for a PC first-person shooter, there's no multiplayer mode at all. Since the presentation and single-player campaign leave you wanting, there's really not much reason to play UberSoldier...unless it's for the story and voice acting, which are so bad they're almost campy.

Just like the game’s music, UberSoldier is annoying and depressing. Almost every aspect aside from the game’s visuals is amateurish and badly made, right down to the overactive physics engine, which allows you to explode the glass in windows and push heavy tables over by just brushing by them. Even at the game’s reduced price UberSoldier is poor value, and almost makes it a relief that you can’t play the game with other disgruntled players. Try to avoid this one.
