PC Gamer
If you’re getting the sense that Big Mutha is an unusual game, you’re right. It’s filled with a ribald sense of humor as well, with extensive dialogue between your character and the various colorful traders, mechanics, and bartenders you’ll meet in each town. While it isn’t the flashiest game going, you’ll see a lot of amusing kitsch if you can keep your eyes open.

The name is a bit misleading. With a title like Big Mutha Truckers, you might expect Empire Interactive and Eutechnyx's new console port to be little more than a value-priced action-driving game where weight-challenged rednecks navigate 18-wheel semis around the countryside. While all of this certainly applies, there's actually more -- and less -- to Big Mutha Truckers than its hokey title and flashy box artwork would suggest.
The saddest thing about Big Mutha Truckers is that it earnestly tries to be a fun game. The mechanics of the game's economy are actually fairly well put together, and do provide a surprisingly deep level of gameplay. Unfortunately, the game's arcade elements aren't done well enough to ever balance with the simulation elements, and the end result is a game that's too wacky to be a sim game, and too simulation-based to be an arcade game. PC gamers looking for a fun trucking experience would perhaps do well to pick up a copy of last year's Hard Truck: 18 Wheels of Steel and just ignore Big Mutha Truckers.
Computer Gaming World (CGW)
At one point during a truck truck-of-war minigame. Big Mutha Truckers strips truck driving- and gaming—down to its depressing bare essentials: hitting a single key as last as you can for two wrist-cracking minutes. But that’s as bad as the game gets; other than that, it’s never outright terrible. Which qualifies Big Mutha Truckers for some kind of best in breed award.
Super Play
Kul men enformigt.

If you have a love for the open road, big rigs, and the hillbilly south of Hick State County then you might want to stick out your thumb and get picked up by one of the Big Mutha Truckers. Eighteen wheels are your weapon to clear your path of pesky police and badass bikers. Steer your rig through icy slopes, desert drives, and neon illuminated cities as you visit hot spots like Smokestack Heights or Skeeter's Creek.
Gameguru Mania
Overall, Big Mutha Truckers is fairly interesting arcade racing game with some nice ideas. Unfortunately, repetitive game play and difficulties with the truck control brings it back to average overall score.
To a 7-year old in 1977, Star Wars was the coolest thing ever conceived. The second coolest thing was Evel Knievel and his insane jumps on motorcycles with factory suspensions. The third coolest thing however, was American trucker phenomenon. The mid 1970's saw independent truckers and their CB lingo pull out of the truck stops and drive head-on into the American psyche. Like most great American pop-culture mishaps (i.e. disco, 50's sock hops, teenage scientists, wire-fu, bullet-time, etc.), it all started in the movie theatre.
