Bionic Commando: Rearmed is terrific in almost every way, revitalizing a classic but long-dormant game in an exciting way that stands on its own, but also serves as a potent reminder that there's a new retail sequel on the horizon that'll bring all this crazy swinging to 3D environments.

Bionic Commando Rearmed sets a new benchmark for bite-sized downloadable games. The best elements of the original are back, but have been upgraded to be better than before. The new bosses add a more interesting challenge and the final level is one for the ages. And, of course, the visuals are brilliant. The remastered soundtrack is fantastic as well. From top to bottom, Bionic Commando Rearmed is an incredible game that's well worth owning.

Bionic Commando Rearmed is not a release for everyone. Less experienced gamers can lower the difficulty level, but doing this covers the harder jumps with transparent blocks. Yes, this makes the game easier, but it's also strangely embarrassing - it feels like you've been handed a set of arm bands. In any case, doing this defeats the point: it's supposed to be hard, and you're supposed to like it. If you're short on patience or have a nervous disorder, then you should approach Rearmed with caution. If, however, you love the genre and harbor fond memories of the original, then this game will seem like a gift from the Eighties God of Shooty Bang-Bang. You may be slightly narked by the fact that you can't play co-op online, but hey - that wouldn't be very retro, would it?

In other reviews for this game, the last paragraph has served as a "it’s like the original, but..." section. However, like I stated from the beginning I have never set my claws on the NES, or even the Arcade version. Bionic Commando Rearmed was judged on its own merits, separate and treated just like any other game. This allows me to be critical, but not overly critical because they added or took away something I didn’t like. No, this game was judge on whether or not it could stand on its own two feet. While those two feet can’t jump, the bionic arm carries the weight and makes this game something special and unique. For $14.99 and tax, this game is a steal, and should not be missed by any PS3, Xbox 360 or PC owner. I whole-heartedly suggest you take arms with Bionic Commando Rearmed.

When it comes down to it, Rearmed is good example of how to reinvent a classic title. It features many of the updates and extras you've come to expect from a proper remake, yet follows the formula laid out by its predecessor extremely close. While long time fans might object, the game could have used a bit more attention in the control department, as well as an upgrade to the swing mechanic. It was needlessly punishing back in the day and still remains so. Despite that fact, Bionic Commando Rearmed is a first-rate downloadable title, and if you don't mind 2D platforming gameplay with a bit of old school challenge, this is one to check out.

BCR is at once beautifully reminiscent of its era, and polished enough to be palatable to a modern audience. The core grappling and swinging mechanic is satisfying, the weapons a joy to wield and the levels are imaginatively designed. It may have started life as a promotional tool for Capcom's upcoming third-person shooter, but if anything, BCR proves that the traditional 2D platformer is still relevant even for PC gaming's current generation.

There have been few updates to old games as accomplished as Bionic Commando Rearmed. The gameplay is as fresh and enjoyable as ever, and the sparkly new graphics and animation only add to the experience. The fact that the 250MB digital download is widely available for only US$14.95 should make it damn near irresistible for anyone with the slightest of platform itches. It's also kind of heartwarming to think that someone born in the 90s who's played through BCR will have something in common with a mullet-wearing, teenage Wham! fan skulking around an arcade in 1987. Who needs a generation gap when you've got games as good as Bionic Commando Rearmed?

Pour la modique somme de dix euros, vous aurez de quoi vous faire plaisir avec ce remake d'un classique de l'action. Joli, rythmé, respectueux de son modèle, et jouable en coop, Bionic Commando Rearmed se pose comme un très bon jeu dont la seule durée de vie pourra être un frein à son achat. Ayez aussi en tête que la maniabilité singe celle de son aïeul, ceci pouvant surprendre plus d'un joueur peu habitué aux jeux d'action typiques des années 80.

So weit Grundlegendes. Das Spiel selber: im Anspruch einem verdrehten Zauberwürfel ähnlich. Dem Original war die Unfähigkeit des Hüpfens eigen; daran hält sich die Neuauflage. Der Soldat beherrscht zwei Dinge, schießen und Haken auswerfen. Wobei das Letzte das Letzte ist, aber irgendwie antreibt, ein aus Spott und Frust geborenes „Muss doch zu schaffen sein!"-Gefühl erzeugt. Überhaupt verströmt sadistischen Charme, was Capcom aus der Verstaubung geholt hat: Da wird verlangt, dass man von Plattformen läuft, sich im Fall an Blöcke hangelt, hochzieht, weiterspringt - eine Berührung mit dem tödlichen Drumherum genügt, dann ist man hin, darf von vorn beginnen.

Mein Schreibtisch hat dank Bionic Commando eine Dell in Form eine Gamepads. Dieses Spiel hat mich teilweise unglaublich frustriert, weil ich immer wieder an derselben Stelle gescheitert bin. Später stellte sich dann heraus, dass ich den wichtigen Hinweis nur im Logbuch hätte nachlesen müssen. Aber falls Sie ein Retro-Fan und/oder bereit sind, sich an die fummelige Steuerung zu gewöhnen, werden Sie als Super Joe Ihren Spaß haben!
