Worth Playing
In the long run, Blitzkrieg lived up to its hyped potential. Nival produced a game that brought out all of the neat technology that was developed during World War II and put it at gamer’s fingertips. Crisply-detailed visuals, followed by a strong soundtrack and immensely addictive multiplayer mode make the game able to give C&C: Generals a run for its money. Unfortunately, Blitzkrieg failed to incorporate the ability to build structures, which would have made multiplayer that much more addictive, but then again, they can’t do everything. Blitzkrieg does a fine job of capturing the intensity of the battles of the great World War II.

OVER THE LAST FEW years there has been a renewed interest in developing World War 2 based strategy games. Unfortunately for gamers the majority have been average at best and have added nothing to the genre at all. So, it was with a degree of cynicism that we took a look at the latest WW2 strategy from Nival Interactive and CDV. We are happy to say the cynicism was quickly replaced with admiration for a job well done.

Does the game surpass Sudden Strike II? Well in all honesty it's difficult to say. The use of units and the need to combine each of the units' abilities is definitely better in Blitzkrieg. The battles are not on the same scale but at the same time the excellent animations and explosions are easily superior to those seen in Sudden Strike II. The bottom line is that if you liked the one then you'll almost certainly like the other. Nival Interactive have created a WWII based RTS that feels both familiar and yet different and it's certainly another jewel in the CDV strategy crown.

Overall, Blitzkrieg can be a tough mountain to master due to the sheer amount of detail that was placed into it if you aren’t a patient person, but it’s really enjoyable even while learning and is especially fun once you get the hang of it. Blitzkrieg may not have all of the hype surrounding it that Warcraft III or Age of Mythology had, but it’s every bit deserving of it as they are in my opinion. If you are an RTS fan and / or enjoy WWII themed games like me, you shouldn’t miss this one. There’s a lot of replay value and a lot of initial play value here, and I was happy to see that someone finally made a WWII RTS title that not only is historically accurate … but also doesn’t fall short on fun either.

Experiencing Blitzkrieg was a challenge and it was fun in almost every aspect. Skirmishes, single missions, and the campaigns are all well-balanced and lengthy, so you can be sure they will take up a lot of your time. The game also includes a multiplayer mode with LAN and Internet support (tried out a few missions and I ended up kicking Zveki's and 2lions' arses; on the whole, it was great fun). Occasional AI snags can be frustrating, but otherwise you can expect your foes to act intelligently and swiftly to any offense you might devise. On an overall note, I recommend this game to all RTS aficionados as well as those of you who want to take a breather from your FPS's a la Unreal and Halo and your third person sneakers a la Splinter Cell. To put it simply, Blitzkrieg stands as one of Nival's greatest RTS endeavors and it should be up there with all the top RTS labels.

I have to stop calling this game Sudden Strike 3. The folks at CDV (who have confusingly also published the Sudden Strike series) as well as the developers over at Nival have taken pains to differentiate this new title from the ones developed by Fireglow. Given the numerous and considerable superficial similarities between the two titles, the distinction is sometimes hard to see. But once you delve beneath the surface of both games, you'll find that Blitzkrieg deviates somewhat from the model set by its predecessor.

This is a really great game that could have been something really special were it not for a few glaring flaws. Still, the game offers a top-notch real-time strategy experience and gameplay that will make you remember why you play games.

At the end of the day, this is more of the same from CDV, using the same engine as some of there other titles, yet it is more of the good same, with the gameplay being developed further to create a more realistic RTS than Sudden Strike and Cossacks. You have to control your troops or you will lose them, “Never weaken the left flank” was one of the famous quotes from the first world war and Blitzkrieg makes a point of this, send your men in a disorganised formation and they will all be slaughtered by the enemy. Use patience, guile, cunning and force and they will conquer and command in the end.

There are a host of other RTS war games on the market that pride themselves on historical accuracy. Blitzkrieg finally does have that. If you truly enjoy World War II RTS genre and would like a good challenge, you should get this game.

Everyone who calls himself a WWII-afficionado has had enough opportunities to prove themselves these few last years. In a lot of genres, games concerning WWII have been released. There are two genres, though, that rose head and shoulders above the rest. If you like to shoot, then you should have a look at Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, Battlefield 1942 and Return to Castle Wolfenstein. The other genre is the RTS. We were spoilt with Sudden Strike (and its sequel) and many look-alikes. If you think the time of WWII-RTS has ended by now, you are mistaken, because Nival Interactive is releasing a game that resembles a lot to SS2.

Strategy Informer
Given the camera control frustration, I have to say that I really like this game. Most missions are carefully designed allowing a lot of tactical scope; the tutorial is excellent and the difficulty levels fairly accurately reflect the toughness of each level, whilst the amount of resouces available in the form of troops are never so many to allow for an all out rush attack. A seasoned player will complete the campaigns within a day or two, but the skirmish & multiplay certainly expand the game lifespan.

Armchair Empire, The
As a whole, Blitzkrieg does deliver a decent RTS that will last for a very long time; however the game isn’t at the stage to compete with current RTS standards, still sporting the 2D landscapes and scratchy infantry movement. If you can put that aside and the fact that creating units is virtually impossible, Blitzkrieg can become a fun and addictive being one of the best RTS games released this year.

I really wanted to like Blitzkrieg. I really did. But the AI shortcomings and the gameplay just doesn't help. Blitzkrieg would be a great game if you are a die-hard RTS player, or deeply into World War II. However if you are into realism of command and battle, edge away and stick with your Close Combat series or Panzer Generals.

Blitzkrieg may seem like a difficult game to start playing. It's another European 2D real-time strategy game set in World War II, like the Sudden Strike series. It isn't particularly flashy, and it doesn't have any especially innovative features or revolutionary concepts. It's also rather unpolished. But while the game may not make a very remarkable first impression, it does have some strong gameplay elements that give it some real substance and help make it deserving of your attention.

Adrenaline Vault, The (AVault)
Blitzkrieg is a respectable title that casts aside economic fancying around in favor of grindstone tactical combat in World War II Europe. That’s the limit of its ambition but not its sweep, which is as comprehensive as an encyclopedia. If it moved between 1935 and 1945 and contained an internal combustion engine, it’s probably hidden somewhere amid Blitzkrieg‘s three campaigns for you to command. This accurate and completist approach is matched by a stout gameplay dynamic that makes for a fine, workmanlike offering. This is matched in other areas, such as graphics and sound, which meet expectations without being outrageously impressive or imposing. In short, Blitzkrieg is a must-buy for World War II buffs or those who want a straightforward and realistic RTS that demands tactical prowess and no city management skills whatsoever.

Computer Gaming World (CGW)
Overall, however, Blitzkrieg delivers the best World War II real-time gaming experience to date. It may be faint praise, but with so many stale RTS games, it’s good to timid one that can hold your attention.

World War II was surely hell for those who lived through it, but sixty years later, it's become the setting for some of today's most outstanding games. You could stick out your hand in a software store while blindfolded and still have a good chance of coming up with a great WWII wargame, first-person shooter, or flight sim.
